BUTUAN CITY - With the stricter implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Caraga region, the individuals belonging to the public transport sector are among those who are greatly affected in terms of livelihood.

This has been the primary reason for the province of Agusan del Sur to identify qualified tricycle drivers who will be receiving assistance from the local government.

Under the “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Displaced or Disadvantaged Workers - Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko” (TUPAD – BKBK) Disinfecting/ Sanitation Project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga, some 35 tricycle drivers were able to have an alternative job while the ECQ is implemented.

Each of them has received the P3,200.00 as remuneration from DOLEAgusan del Sur Provincial Office for the 10-day work they rendered in their respective barangays.

Along with it was the distribution of rice from the local government unit. Beneficiaries from the transport sector were thankful to the agencies concerned.

“This is really a great help for us and our family. Thank you to our local officials who have given us due attention,” said Danny Sanda, a tricycle driver.

“We are thankful to the government for this assistance given to us,” added Jimer Añora.

The Municipal Business Permit and Licensing Office and the Municipal Public Employment Services Office have carefully assessed the applicants and ensured that they are prioritized for the said assistance.

The 35 tricycle drivers were among the 150 beneficiaries under the emergency employment program of dole for the underemployed, unemployed and displaced workers who are greatly affected by the crisis brought about by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

All of them were able to complete the 10-day work by cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing their respective barangays.

The second batch of beneficiaries also received recently the same aid from the government.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Agusan del Sur continues to implement strict preventive measures against COVID-19 and urged all local residents to observe proper hygiene, social distancing, and wearing of mask. (JPG/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
