DA cash assistance reaches SurSur rice farmers

P ovincial Newsovincial N According to TESD Specialist Lee Escobal, the said activity is in response to the mandate of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of the Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID) in preventing the spread of COVID 19 which calls for readily available support and technical assistance to the front line services and the local chief executives. TESDA Provincial Director Rey Cueva led the distribution of the 228 face masks and 165 bottles of Calamansi juice, and disinfectants to the frontliners assigned at the entrance and exit points of the province. Escobal said the face masks came from Lorenz International Skills Training Academy, Inc. (LISTA), a Tailoring NC II accredited provider, owned by Maggie Gudella Z. Tse while the Calamansi Juice was from Callano Farm, a TESDA accredited farm school in Tagbina town. Also, Karl Toledo, owner of the National Institute for Technical Excellence, Inc. (NITEX) - Carrascal Campus, an accredited TVI in Carrascal, provided plastic bottles for juice and containers/bottle sprays for disinfectants. The provision of the face masks, healthy drinks, and disinfectants to frontliners are also in support of the “Bayanihan to Heal As One Act”. which calls for a partnership with the private sector and stakeholders in delivering the aforementioned measures quickly and efficiently, Escobal noted. TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur - The Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) continues to release cash assistance worth P975,000 to 195 rice farmers in Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.

Rice farmers who are tilling 0.5 hectares to two hectares of land and registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) are the priority of the program and will receive P5,000 cash aid. Farmers need not worry because the assistance is an unconditional cash transfer intended to help farmers affected by the implementation of the rice tarrification law. P ovincial News

It is a nationwide response of the national government to rice farmers particularly the marginal ones.

RFFA Program Regional Focal Person Hazel M. Colinares headed the releasing of the cash support in coordination with the local government “For the province of Surigao del Sur, 426 rice farmers have received the cash aid. Amidst the threat of COVID-19 the Department will continue to reach more farmers for them to use the assistance for their daily subsistence,” Colinares said.

In the region, a total of 1,405 have been served by the program with total cash released worth P7 Million. Another 18,375 eligible rice farmers for the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur will receive the financial assistance not later this month, Colinares added.
