In a press conference held recently, the commander of 4th Infantry Division (4ID), Philippine Army, lauded the local chief executives (LCEs) in Caraga region for seriously implementing programs and basic services for their constituents especially in the remote areas, in support also to the efforts of the Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

Major General Romeo Brawner, Jr., commander of 4ID, Philippine Army said the LCEs in Caraga are active in developing different programs that would directly help uplift the lives of the localities, and ensure their security against the communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists.

“There had been many areas in the region which were already declared as cleared from NPA infestation and are now experiencing developments and the locals are now well-informed and active advocates on the government’s initiatives. The LCEs themselves are also firm not to give any support to the NPAs, as it would only give the CNTs the chance to exploit and abuse more people,” said Brawner.

The 4ID chief also emphasized that the Army units in regions 10 and 13 are constantly monitoring peace and order, as well as movement of the NPAs. “Aside from running after them, we also have to secure the government’s projects in the regions covered by 4ID particularly in Caraga. The NPA destroys properties and equipment of different companies and even LGUs when they refuse to give fund support to the movement,” he said.

Brawner called on members of the communist NPA terrorists in Caraga region to surrender and return to the folds of the law. He elaborated that the government has programs intended for the former rebels and a better life ahead as they return to mainstream society.

“The former rebels are given due benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and are given the opportunity to join and be part of the Philippine Army or in the Philippine National Police,” he said.

Brawner assured the populace that with the support of the LCEs, more developmental programs and projects will be established and the Army units in its area of responsibility will continue to ensure their safety and protection. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
