Lagnada led the Freedom Day celebration together with City Vice Mayor Jose “Joboy” S. Aquino II and other local officials. The NOVA is a recognition conferred to outstanding volunteer individuals and organizations, including corporate volunteering initiatives that are chosen from among the regional qualifiers. The VLAA is conferred to a Filipino volunteer or a Filipino volunteer organization or a local chapter of a foreign volunteer organization serving in the Philippines.
The RSC in Caraga has set July 14, 2017 for the deadline in accepting nominations in order for the committee to have enough time in evaluating the regional entries. The RSC has also scheduled the site validations from July 21 to 24, 2017. TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – A cultural fest dubbed 8th Humayanon Festival will highlight the 55th founding anniversary of the municipality of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur from June 14 to 16, 2017. According to Community Development Information Officer (CDIO) Nancy Elizalde, the 3-day festivity will start at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday with a parade to be followed by a formal opening program to be held at the municipal gymnasium. The cutting of ribbon for the agrotrade fair will also be conducted to be led by Surigao del Sur Vice Governor Manuel Alameda, San Miguel Mayor Alvaro Elizalde, Vice Mayor Salvador Soriano and sangguniang bayan members. Also, 12 lovely candidates will be competing for the Miss Humayanon talent showdown and a fellowship night of San Miguelnon will take place during the first night of the festivity. On day-2, the indigenous peoples (IPs) of San Miguel will celebrate the
“Araw ng Lumad” with several lined-up activities involving the IP communities in the town headed by Municipal Tribal Chieftain Datu Rico Maca. On day-3, the 8th Humayanon Festival will tbe conducted with nine barangay participants to compete for the street dancing and dance presentation. These barangays are: Magroyong, Poblacion, Sagbayan, Mahayag, San Roque, Libas Sud, Bolhoon, Carromata, and Tina. The pageant night for Miss Humayanon will also be held on the same day. 119th Philippine Independence Day celebrated solemnly in SurSur TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur - The 119th Philippine Independence Day was solemnly celebrated in the city spearheaded by the city government here headed by mayor Alexander Pimentel in collaboration with the provincial government of Surigao del Sur and Department of Education (DepEd). The celebration was participated by the employees of the national government agencies (NGAs); troopers of 402nd Brigade and 36th Infantry Battalion; personnel of the Philippine National Police; private sector/nongovernment organizations; academe and students.

Body of NPA rebel found in San Miguel town By: Nida Grace P. Barcena

LGU-Veruela receives 2nd funding on Bottom-up Budgeting projects PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – The Local government Unit (LGU) of Veruela of this province has just received a total of P5-million Bottomup Budgeting (BuB) project funds for the Rubber Industry Development and Yaman Pinoy (raw material support to meat processing).
Municipal Treasurer Elenita Peralta received the checks from Supervising Trade and Industry Development Specialist Jose Baron and Reonel Aniñon, Trade and Industry Development Specialist and BuB account person for Veruela projects last May 22, 2017. The fund allotted for rubber industry development project with the amount of P4-million is intended to help 100 rubber farmers who will also intercrop with cacao trees in their 100-hectare rubber plantation. This is to complement the banner program of the provincial government of Agusan del Sur, the Upland Sustainable Agro-Forestry Development (USAD).
Included in this project is the
supply chain improvement (crumb rubber) and market matching which DTI will also help facilitate. The Yamang Pinoy project with an allocation of P1million intends to provide the needed raw materials for meat processing. This will be handled by the Women’s Support Group now engaging into meat processing business. Thirty members of this group will be trained on entrepreneurship, management, and proper handling of food. They will also be provided with starter kits for their businesses. These two projects are expected to increase the income of the target groups and their members through the provision of enterprise and relevant technical support. DSWD releases P54M for ‘Libreng Gamot Para sa Masa’ program QUEZON CITY - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released, as of May 31, a total of P54,223,617.15 for the medicine requirements of some 8,326 indigent patients from Regions III, VI, VII, XI and the National Capital Region (NCR) under its Libreng Gamot Para Sa Masa (Lingap Sa Masa) program. Lingap is a project of President Rodrigo Duterte that provides P1-billion funds for the medicine assistance to indigent patients who need help to buy their medication. The program started in March this year.

The indigent patients who may avail are the following: 1] Families or individuals who are indigent, vulnerable or disadvantaged; 2] Those in the informal sector and poor based on DSWD Listahanan; 3] Those who are in crisis situation based on assessment of social workers; 4] Employees and contract of service workers of government in crisis situation; and 5] Dependents of soldiers and police officers killed or wounded in line of duty.

Judy Taguiwalo expressed hope that many Filipinos will utilize the program and maximize it. “There remains much to be desired when it comes to our public healthcare system, and among the factors that stand in the way of Filipinos’ access to quality healthcare is the cost of medicine and medical procedures and treatment. Agencies like the DSWD contribute to efforts to make healthcare services more accessible to the poor and sectors in need.
