Sustaining energy in Mindanao

MinDA Deputy Executive Director ASec. Romeo Montenegro presents a crucial innovation enabler, the power sector, along with the updates, way forward efforts, and programs and projects relating to energy development during today’s virtual Science and Industry Summit 2021. He talks about the Mindanao power situation from the perspective of policies, point of view of investments, the standpoint of ordinary consumers, and context and relationship of agriculture and energy.

He also calls for research, advocacy, and policy crafted to be directed towards the poorest sectors of Mindanao. “While Mindanao is rich in agriculture, it is still host to most of the poorest of the poor provinces in the country. This is something that should stir all of us here to turn around into a better

economic situation, especially for our farmers and fisherfolks who are among the poorest,” said ASec. Montenegro. In celebration of the National Science and Technology Week, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) organized this event where leaders, stakeholders, industry players, and academic frontrunners in Science and Technology research and innovations converge and discuss how to establish a trailblazing and thriving innovation ecosystem.
