During the Organizational Meeting and Regional Leadership Forum of the Department of Education (DepEd) Caraga on October 19 at the LMX Convention Center, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) DirectorGeneral Harold Clavite thoroughly discusses different strategies on how to be an effective communicator. Said event was attended by around 1,300 participants, comprised of public elementary and secondary school heads, Schools Division Superintendents, and Assistant Schools Division Superintendents.
we want to convey change in a wider reach, through utilization of available social media platforms. Filipinos use these to communicate with friends and colleagues, share events, get news, or discover something new. People are optimizing for more interactions and reach,” said Clavite. He added that what are being commonly posted by netizens are ‘transportive visuals.’ “This means posting of photos that tell stories and making the readers feel they are in. This is where tagging of people and relevant accounts start as another effective way of engaging the community. What we post and share can inform, create opinion, influence action and affect sentiment,” underscored Clavite.
Clavite said keeping themselves open to new technological advancements such as appropriate use of social media, teachers can improve their communication skills, and become excellent educators. This would also allow them to communicate change better and help motivate others to Clavite further elaborated how embrace affirmative transformations. these platforms became favorable in disseminating information and in “Change is inevitable. sharing of ideas of change that the Technologies change and these have government wants to put into effect for also affected the landscape of the way the welfare of the people. 14 - 20 October, 2017

He also cited studies on how relevant social media posts can help humanize relationships, inspire others, develop meaningful stories and how it contributes to crowdsourcing of ideas. The importance of digital communications was also pointed out but he emphasized that people have to stay vigilant and be responsible in sharing information, especially with the use of social media.

Meanwhile, Department of Education (DepEd) Caraga Regional Director Beatriz Torno emphasized in her message that school principals should be the source of inspiration to the teachers, students, co-principals and to the community. “You live with inspiration so that you will radiate inspiration among others. Working with inspiration produces better outputs and a feeling of contentment as leaders and educators,” Torno said.
Recounting some of the milestones of PIA, Clavite shared the significance of social media in its advocacy campaigns. “The agency has been tasked to lead the promotion of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the country. There were already 109 ASEAN information kiosks that were established nationwide with 111 multi-sectoral and youth fora conducted. All these undertakings were hyped through the help of social media,” said Clavite.
Torno also underlined that the educators are the propellers of DepEd Caraga. “You are the region’s handson executives, performing several responsibilities being a school principal and doing even beyond the call of duty. You are truly an inspiration who deserved proper recognition and appreciation, that’s why you are all gathered in this very significant event,” added Torno as she sincerely addressed the participants. According to Dr. Amelia Ronquillo, Public Schools District Supervisors Association (PSDSA) President, communication is necessary in all aspects of human lives, but learning

“Students today find it easy to pick up new electronic devices and learn how to make use of it at the best advantage. It is important that we understand the mechanism for citizens’ involvement in communicating change for sustained progress,” said Ronquillo.
PIA is mandated to keep every Filipino to be well-informed citizens and to make sure that proper information is given to communities to make sound decisions. He also reiterated the importance of technology in communicating change to empower communities. “If we communicate our message of change, we must never forget communities. Do the effort to engage with them. May you all be agents of change, and be communicators who will empower communities,” encouraged Clavite. (VLG/PIA-Caraga) 14 - 20 October, 2017

NAIA improves passenger satisfaction ratings
MANILA - Reforms in the NAIA have finally bore fruits. According to a survey released to “The Guide to Sleeping in Airports” travel website released on Sunday, October 15, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is no longer included in the top 20 worst airports in the world, and even in the top 5 worst airports in Asia 2017. It can be remembered that on the same survey conducted during the past administration and released in October 2016, NAIA used to be among the world’s worst airports, landing on the 5th place.

Such placement was attributed to the issue of “laglag-bala”, which was among the main complaints of travellers, especially by OFWs, but was addressed during the first 100 days of the Duterte administration. Meanwhile, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade welcomed this improvement, but said that this is just the beginning. Secretary Tugade reminded that the DOTr must not be complacent as there are many things yet to be done and improved at the NAIA. 14 - 20 October, 2017
“Work, work, work lang. While it is good that we are not listed among the worst, let us work even harder to be included amongst the best,” Tugade said. “We should be careful that we do not backslide. The show must go on -and better!” he added. For his part, Manila International Airports Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal says this result is only as good as the last race. “The bigger challenge is to maintain or even surpass our achievement,” GM Monreal said. It can be remembered that NAIA earned the ‘world’s worst airport’ title from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, it landed in the 4th place. It was not included in the top 10 worst airports in the world in 2015, but landed 8th worst airport in Asia. Meanwhile, four Philippine airports again joined the list of the top 25 best airports in Asia for this year, 2017. They are: Iloilo International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Clark International Airport, and Davao

International Airport. Among the reforms implemented in the NAIA during the Duterte Administration were the restriction on general aviation to prioritize commercial flights and reduce flight delays; the imposition of the five-minute rule [where pilots who declare they are ready to take off must depart within the prescribed time or they would be put back at the back of the queue] to reduce flight delays and instill discipline among airlines; the construction of Rapid Exit Taxiways to allow an aircraft to leave the runway at higher speed and increase flight movements; provision of cleaner toilets additional seats, free WiFi, and Well-Wishers’ Area. Regular taxis were also allowed to queue and pickup passengers at designated points in NAIA terminals to address shortage of taxi units servicing passengers. Further, since the new administration took over, there has been no single incidence of a passenger missing a flight for possessing a bullet. Passengers no longer feel the need to wrap bags and luggages in plastic or masking tapes. (MIAA-NAIA)
