BUTUAN CITY – Nothing is more gratifying for teachers who want their pupils safe and sound while in the class, now that the Gender and Development (GAD) Day Care Center here will have its center fenced with concrete blocks constructed by the personnel of the 4th Civil Military Operations (CMO) “Kasaligan” Battalion of the Philippine Army, together with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga.
Labitad recalled that their first building was situated inside the city hall compound. “When our first building was burned down along with other nearby offices few years back, the city government has relocated us here in our new location. This is actually formerly occupied by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, but since they transferred to their new building just few meters away from here, we have learned to love our new place,” she explained.
Also, Lieutenant Colonel Rey Pasco, commanding officer of 4th CMO Battalion highlighted that they are willing to help the teachers and preschoolers in their need of safety and security by providing them manpower and other available resources. “We, in the Philippine Army will never hesitate to extend help to those who need our services. We will always look for ways on how we can touch other peoples lives and inspire them,” articulated Pasco. Meanwhile, PIA Caraga regional director Abner Caga also conveyed his warm thanks to 4th CMO Battalion for their immediate response and support to the agency and its partners.

BUTUAN CITY – With the aim to strengthen the Regional Tobacco Control Network (RTCN) of Caraga region, the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga recently hold a meeting with its different stakeholders’ Anti-Smoking Program point persons.

During the conduct of RTCN’s regular meeting, Sunshine Alipayo of DOH Caraga has re-oriented RTCN members on the network’s objectives, roles and functions. RTCN was formed with the aim to fully comprehend the severity of tobacco problem in the region and to urgently respond by adopting comprehensive approaches to reduce and subsequently eliminate tobacco as a threat to public. Tobacco is the most preventable cause of death and diseases, it is also the risk factor in non-communicable disease.

The roll-out training aims to explain to the LGUs the content and structure of the mentioned handbook which are crucial in preparing them (LGUs) for their role as advocates of Social Protection. Also, the training will identify knowledge and skills needed using the instructional design of the SP handbook in undertaking advocacy, identifying risk and vulnerabilities, analysing, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. DSWD Regional Director Minda B. Brigoli shared in her message that the SP Handbook serves as the primary reference manual in implementing

BUTUAN CITY - The provincial government of Agusan del Norte now regulates the business operations of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the province with the recent approval of Provincial Ordinance No. 426-2016, authored by Provincial Board Member Virgilio R. EscasiĂąas, Jr.

The ordinance covers all refilling plants, re-fillers, haulers, dealers and retailers of LPG with business operations in the province regulating the hauling, refilling, dealing and retailing of LPG and the manufacture and repair of LPG cylinders.

Under the said ordinance, to ensure the safety and quality of the LPG sold to the public, the cylinder containing the LPG should bear all the information set forth in the Philippine National Standards. All LPG business operators are required at all times in their establishments or outlets and within the sales areas accessible to the public the maintenance of a weighing devices duly calibrated and sealed annually by the Provincial Treasurer, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) or any other government agency authorized therefore and which shall accurately measure LPG cylinders up to one-tenth (0.1) of one kilogram.
Operators are also required to display or post a signboard outside the store premises to inform the public and the authorities that they have complied with the provisions the said ordinance to contain the name and owner of the store, name of the company/ manufacturer of the LPG offered for sale, price of the LPG product variants and invitation to consumers to verify the weight of each LPG product variant. Other requirements include the provision of fire alarms, fire extinguisher and fire suppression devices and guides in case of LPG related accidents per revised building code of the province; the delivery service for the LPG shall secure conveyance certificate/permit from the Bureau of Fire Protection; and provision of information materials in the form of information board, brochures
and emergency information kit to prevent LPG related accidents; logbook where the weight and condition of LPG cylinders sold and inventory are recorded for inspection by authorities; and the manufacture and/or repair of LPG cylinders should be accredited by the Bureau of Product Standards under PNS 03:2000. Non-compliance of the said requirements of the ordinance and other violations that include selling LPG with tampered/defaced cylinder labels, selling underfilled LPG cylinders, illegal refilling, selling adulterated LPG and transporting/handling LPG
cylinders in a vehicle enclosed cargo space, are penalized accordingly. First violation-reprimand and a fine of P1,000 for every count of violation. Second Violation-second warning plus a fine of P1,500 for every count of violation. Third and subsequent violations – fine of P2,500 for every count of violation and/or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, upon the discretion of the court and revocation of business permit. Dried beans and legumes are good substitute to meats

Dried beans, legumes, and nuts are excellent and cheap alternatives to meats for your daily meals. While dried beans and legumes contain protein of lower biological value than meats, the total protein value of such foods when eaten with cereal protein such as rice, approaches that of meat and costs less.

animal protein foods. However, these meat substitutes contain non-heme iron, which has to be taken with some animal protein or vitamin C-rich foods for better absorption. About ž cup of cooked mongo or one cup raw peanuts, for example, may be substituted for a serving of fish or meat. (2) Add beans and cook for 2 minutes. (3) Set aside for one hour. (4) Bring to a boil, then simmer until tender. Save the water you used in soaking and boiling beans for making soups and sauces. This liquid has B-vitamins needed for normal growth.

QUEZON CITY- Some 141 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were among those stranded in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed their joy and gratitude to the Philippine Government as they arrived home last night via Saudi Arabia Airlines SV 804 flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal I. They were met by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea with Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III, and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Mae Fae Templa, among others.
