RED TIDE STILL UP IN SURIGAO SUR BAY

The Lianga Bay in the province of Surigao del Sur was included in the list of the areas with the presence of Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) or toxic red tide. Milagros in Masbate; Dauis and Tagbilaran in Bohol; Carigara Bay in Leyte; Dumanguillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; and Murcielagos in Zamboanga del Norte.

The report warned the public that all types of shellfishes and aceted sp. or alamang gathered from the coastal areas declared with the positive toxic red tide are not safe for human consumption. crabs are safe for human consumption provided, that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and the internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.

Meanwhile, BFAR confirmed that other coastal waters are declared free from the toxic red tide that included the coastal waters of Hinatuan, Cortes, Lingig, and Bislig City bay, all in Surigao del Sur. (PIA-Surigao del Sur)

The report was based on the latest Shellfish Bulletin No. 26 dated September 10, 2021, released by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Other coastal waters which shellfishes collected were found out still positive of toxic red tide are:
