Featured Concert

Sunday, 4:00pm / Venetian Theater / $30, $40, $50, $60, $70, $80, $90, $100, $110 In this colorful and wide-ranging program, The Knights team up with the inimitable cellist Yo-Yo Ma for music that bursts with individual creativity and reaction to fresh insights. For the young Mendelssohn, immersion in the arts and culture of Italy inspired a new symphony. In Federico II, Giovanni Sollima takes inspiration from the 13thcentury Holy Roman Emperor who paved the way for the advances of the Renaissance. In Osvaldo Golijov’s Azul (written for Yo-Yo Ma in 2006) the composer combines two perspectives, simultaneously observing the Earth from afar, as if from the heavens, and also plunging into the turbulent depths of the human and earthly experience. Sollima, Federico II Mendelssohn, Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90, “Italian” Golijov, Azul, for Cello and Orchestra Caramoor’s 2015 Fall Festival sponsored by:

Formed in 2012, the quartet completed a 2015 residency at the Curtis Institute of Music and served as resident ensemble of the 2014 Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute. Jonathan Biss

Artists-in-Residence: Creating Personal Musical Dialogues “With increased possibility comes increased responsibility — responsibility to make your musical choices with absolute conviction and integrity. It is not selfishness, but the very essence of artistic generosity, to ignore what the world may be clamoring for, and instead ask what it is that you want to share with the world.” — Jonathan Biss In 2016, Caramoor welcomes Rising Stars alum, consummate pianist, and newlyminted music educator, Jonathan Biss as Artist-in-Residence. A prodigal student of Leon Fleisher and Evelyne Brancart, and descendent of greats such as his grandmother Raya Garbousova (one of the earliest well-known female cellists, for whom Samuel Barber composed his Cello Concerto), and mother Miriam Fried (violinist), Biss returns to Caramoor in three deeply personal concerts: Sunday / July 10, 2016 Performing with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Biss delivers a program featuring the New York premiere of a Timo Andres work, written for Biss as part of his Beethoven/5 project and inspired by and paired with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Thursday / August 4, 2016 Joined by his mother, Miriam (violin), Hsin-Yun Huang (viola), and Marcy Rosen (cello), Biss presents works by Janacek and Brahms. Friday / August 5, 2016 This solo recital gives a deserved spotlight to the pianist The Telegraph calls “in complete command of an excitingly virtuosic performance.”

Create Your Legacy at Caramoor Through a charitable bequest in your will or living trust, you can ensure that the “encores” keep playing at Caramoor. We have established the Encore Society to recognize those who include Caramoor in their estate planning, and we encourage you to join this important group for Caramoor’s future.
