Artist-in-Residence Jonathan Biss is serious about his Beethoven. “Beethoven’s sonatas have been a constant presence in my life for nearly as long as I have been playing the piano,” he writes. “‘Presence’ is too mild a word, though: ‘force’ comes a bit closer to conveying the space he occupies in my heart and head.”
Beethoven’s Fidelio — the composer’s only opera — explores themes common to his “middle period” of personal sacrifice, heroism, and delayed triumph. Caramoor welcomes Pablo Heras-Casado, principal conductor of Orchestra of St. Luke’s, in his Caramoor opera stage debut. A host of preopera events, delicious picnics, home tours, and more make for an unforgettable day at Caramoor!
