This is a biker leather jacket, they have uneven zips and they are usually cropped and black. the design of this type of jacket was made for motorcyclist, to makae them be comfortable and not dig into their body whilst riding a bike.

Leather jacket with a hood can be dressed up and down. It’s the most comfortable jacket that can be styled with a hoodie and joggers but also nice top and jeans.

This is the most elegant leather jacket, they are very popular now in fall/winter 22/23. This jacket looks like a blazer, it doesn’t have many pockets and has bottoms instead of a zip.

Low Rise is Back!

Love it or Hate it, The low rise trend is back and it is stronger than ever! Your favorurite fashion trend will most likely come in low rise too; Cargos, Skirts and Jeans. We first saw this trend back in the 2000’s, and they were a celebrity staple. The denim style quickly became a go too for celebritys such as Paris hilton, Destiny’s Child and Britney Spears. We saw them styled with a embellished belt and a bright coloured crop top finishing off the look with a belly piercing on show. Now that the trend has come back we are going to tell you how to style them in 2022. Now that it is not just about the jeans, we can style low rise outfits with cargos too. Our Favourite way to style low rise garmets is to pair with a crop top and accessorise with a belly chain, hand bag and chunky trainers.

You got that BrATITUDE

Bratz Dolls have inspired young fashion for decades however with the rise of Y2K Fashion its back and its better than ever. Including all the fluffy fabrics, platform heels and matching sets, all of us fashion lovers now have the chance to experiment with clothes and see what fashion trend we can create. Bratz inspired young girls to wear what they want to wear without the feeling of judgement and now in 2022 fashion has become a form of expression. Not only did Bratz take the lead with fashion but also makeup. Known for the classic Big, Juicy Lips and bright eyes with a sharp wing, its something that all MUA’s are insipired by. Bratz replaced the iconic Barbie Doll that was known for the controversy of conforming to one body standard which is something that Bratz managed to step away from and they gave there audience realtable body standards with a range of di versity. Thier varying skin tones and multiple hair textures was something that Barbie couldn’t keep up with.

From Fluffy bags to micro mini skirts all the big fashion trends that have seen in 2022, you have probably seen on a bratz doll first. It also seems that the trends are not slowing down for 2023 too, the dolls unique style complemets each of teh dolls individuals personalitys and validates self expression. Mnay celebritys have also been seen to take inspiration from the Bratz Doll such as Ariana Grande and Hailey Bieber. Bratz were known for adding layers to thier outfits amd combining multiple colour clashes. Lets not forget the infamous sungalsses and chunky rings! Its a style trend that is definitly here to stay and we are going to share the best places to recreate your fvourite Bratz Doll look.

Dyeing your hair according to trends is not the best of ideas, however if you enjoy funky and bright hairstyles then I highly recommend using Knights & Wilson. Their bright and vivid colour tones create a striking, rich and brilliant hair colour. The formula is created using oils which improve the composition of the hair, this conditions, and adds a shine to the hair, which means despite being dyed the hair appears healthy and glossy!

Furthermore, the dye instructions suggest mixing a small amount of the dye with conditioner or shampoo, to create a colour care solution.

“Always remember to wear gloves when us ing the dye, even when mixed with shampoo or conditioner.”

Using two different shades creates dimension within the hair colour, avoid ing the flat look. Naturally, the hairs have lighter and darker shades and colour tones, which is replicated by mixing two different shades of pink to create lighter and darker pink streaks.

Fuchsia:

Knights & Wilson, Pink Pizazz and Magenta Dream, applied to light blonde hair.

Bright Pink is in!

Having a mum as a hairdresser comes in handy, before dyeing my hair pink my hair was naturally a dirty blonde, and after having bleach blonde highlights and ending up with mostly light blonde hair – except at the roots where the hair was slightly darker –the pink dyes can be easily used to create a bright colour. The same effect could be created on medium blonde hair however it is recom mended for light blonde hair to achieve the most vivid and intense colour tone.

Streetwear is a style of casual clothing which became global in the 1990s. It grew from New York hip hop fashion and Californian surf culture to encompass elements of sportswear, punk, skateboarding and Japanese street fashion. Eventually haute couture became an influence.

Japanese street wear- Japanese street style is known for being bold and cutting edge. While there’s no single definition of Japanese street style, there are some defining trends. Loose, overfitted clothing in muted colors is fairly typical. Generally, it’s all about silhouettes and mixing things up—layers, vintage, designer, and more.

New York hip hop fashion- Hip hop fashion (also known as rap fashion) is a distinctive style of dress originating from Urban Black America and inner-city youth located in New York City, followed by Los Angeles. All have contributed various elements to the overall style seen worldwide today.

26 CARBON - FASHION

Punk Streetwear- Street punks wear leather, denim, metal spikes or studs, chains and military-style boots. They often wear elements of early punk fashion, such as kutten vests, bondage trousers and torn clothing.

Skateboarding- The clothing is practical, loose, and comfortable, does not restrict skateboarders, and offers some protection. The aesthetic can be described as casual and carefree, but there is also an anti-establishment element.

After being seen again on the runway, sparkles are back in, be it with sequins or just glitter. The sparkles help colours really pop, and they glisten in the light, so perfect for dark rooms with small amounts of light, for parties or galas. Sequins are placed inj specific patterns to accentuate the garment, but they can also be placed all over for that maxcimalist effect.

When styling hats during the current season, en sure your outfit has been chosen to connect with the hat.

For example, a faux fur hat such as the one above should not be paired with a summer outfit, and so pairing a fluffy bucket hat with a hoodie, or a coat is perfect for this season.

To the right: the same faux fur bucket hat paired with a faux fur coat of the same material and ap pearance, creating a simple, yet fabulous outfit for going out this season!

Who said crocs couldn’t look fashionable?

Here you can see an outfit that has been put together which consists of a pair of crocs. The way the crocs have been designed creates more of a high end, designer aesthetic in comparison to a normal croc. The dog tooth patterned bow on the shoe pulls together the whole outfit and makes it fit in rather than stand out. I have paired a black mini skort with the dog tooth print cardigan. as it adds a break between the pattern on the shoe and the cardigan rather than over doing it with the pattern. If you want to purchase this outfit, you can! The cardigan is from misspap and the skirt is from shein. Both at an affordable price. The white crocs you can get from the croc store or zolando and then buy jibbets charms to try and recreate that design.

Are comfortable clothes the new uniform blueprint for a night out?... Has the era of the Oh Polly dress and uncomfortable heels on a night out come to an end. This year has seen less and less stilettos and short, short dresses. With the uprise of the cargo trouser we have seen much more comfortable outfits being worn on a night on the town. People have turned to baggy jeans, cargos and trousers. Even peoples’ choice of footwear has become more appropriate for dancing into the wee hours. There’s no more wearing painful (although beautiful) heels and having to carry them around after only an hour. People have begun wearing trainers, boots and loafers and for those still wanting a bit of extra height, platform (so much more comfortable) heels and heeled boots. @justinAbieAber @justinAbieber@olivianeil @tiziano.raw Designed and written by Megan O’Hara 38 CARBON - FASHION

LIFE ON MARS

THE MARS CAMO CARGOS-STYLING

Cargos originally became a popular fashion trend in the early 2000’s and have become a key part of the Y2K fashion trend for 2022. Cargo’s have been part of celebrity’s best off model duty looks this year and now that brands like Mars the Label have created cargos in there new essentials range we can’t wait to recreate celebritys styles. Cargos became a hot trend last year and this year is no different. Cargos are back and better than ever and these Mars Cream Cargo’s are the perfect oversized cargos with a nude and cream finish. Cargos were first introduced as a fashion trend due to the practicality of being able to store your belongings close to you without the restriction of a tight pair of denim jeans. Mars the Label have acknolweged this and have gone beyond and added adjustable ties on the sides to tailor them to your body shape, while keeping the loose fit. These cargos are a wardrobe must this Autumn, ideal for the everyday and nights out with the girls. Wear these cargos for work, shopping, dog walks, grabbing coffee, or a cheeky cocktail. These cargos are definitly a statement to any simple outfit and are defo Instagram approved with all our favourite Influencers jumping at the chance to share how they have styled them.

STYLING TIPS-

1. Pair with a cream ribbed bodysuit, clear heels or brown Jordans for a more casual look, oversized sunglasses and a mini strap handbag.

2. Keep it simple and cosy with a brown chunky knit jumper, white air force and hair in your fav sleek pr messy bun.

3. Wear a cropped chocolate brown puffer, a cream crop top and brown chunky boots for a warmer look.

4. Add a graphic t-shirt and strappy heels tucking the bottom of the cargos into the heel to craete a cuffed ankle.

44 CARBON - FASHION

Arianna Ajter founded Mars the Label in 2015, they are an independent clothing label who focus on “taking staple pieces and adding a sexy twist”. The brand is best known for their fishtail swimsuit and dress which can be styled and worn in multiple different ways, famously styled by Mary Bedford on Love Island, the brand’s innovative ideas have carried on and are turning everyday basics into model off duty at every occasion.

Their recent launch “Life on Mars’ ‘focused on styling the everyday, trending duvet coats and long winter boats. Knitted co ords perfect for the A/W of 2022 the coziest tracksuits and the perfect day and night cargos. Focusing on the autumn colour pallette and the cool tones for winter this launch has given us all the most instagrammable outfits for this season. Focusing on a monochromatic colour palette and creating a seamless style. Stepping away from the bright colours that Mars are known for and embracing the neutral tones. This capsule full of the essentials we all need includes 32 pieces including the “Chunky Rib Knit Set” “the racer back body and sorts with the cropped puffer” and the “Signiture zip up jacket and short set”. What we love about this whole collection is how versatile very piece is. It can all be styled seperatly, together or a mix and match. All of the ribbed sets are designed to contour your body and give you a flawless effect. In this collection there is something for evrrybody, taking the simple staples but adding a little extra to help you feel confident for every occasion. This collection has really set the standard for Autumn/Winter and we cant wait to see what Mars is going to bring out next and how other brands are going to follow. Mars the Label is always the best at adding a unique twist to the basics. Trends do come and go however one thing is for certain that every Winter you need a Duvet Coat and Mars the label have delivered just that! My Favourite of the collection, a coat so cozy to get you through the day. The Duvet coat comes in black and cream, and its perfect to style with chunky boots and a black ribbed uniitard percet for those cold 9AM Uni lectures or days at work.

Mars The Label - The Waterfall Mini Dress

The waterfall mini dress and fishtail swimsuit has taken the ibiza holidays to a whole new level, dresses and swimsuits that can be styled three ways. Designed to snatch your waist with a ruched material perfect for body contouring, with long and thick braid ties to style to your desire and finished with a deep low cut finish. The dress and swimsuit can be tied three ways: Halter neck style, Asymmetric style or keep it simple with a basic spaghetti strap. The Insta world was taken back when Mars the Label released this dress as it was all too good to be true. A dress with a thick quality that snatches your body in all the right places keeping you feeling confident all night long. The Waterfall Mini dress comes in multiple colours such as: Black, White, Pink, Blue, Orange, Green and Red.

How I would style the “Waterfall Mini Dress”

1. Pair with your favourite heels and a matching bag for date night. If you have the black or white waterfall dress pair with a colour to make your outfit pop!

2. Pair your dress with a blazer and white air force for the perfect brunch with the girls cocktail outfit.

3. If you want to add a more grunge vibe to your look add a pair of chunky boots with a faux leather finish and pair with an oversized bomber jacket. To finish your outfit off layer your jewellery, stack your rings and you are good to go!

TANTIFUL

TWEED

How to style your tweed

The bright, vibrant tropical shades of your summer wardrobe are ready to be packed away! Make way for your warmer tones to appear from the clothes rail and onto the runway. With the likes of Chanel ‘Ready to Wear’ show, it is clear that tantiful tweed is that latest A/W trend to steal the show.

Other ways to style your tweed is by breaking up the fabric with a polyester, neutral toned roll neck. Not only will this comfortable layer keep you warm, it will enhance the bright textures of your blazer and skirt co-ord. Alternatively a long, tight fitted black or white dress adds a more lowkey but sophisticated look.

Tweed is the perfect way to bring elegance as you strut through the colder months among us. The beautiful tones and soft fabric will get you feeling the sanguine of the season. Tweed brings a historical staple look through the likes of Fashion Icon Gabrielle Chanel. Mirror this look by styling matching tweed long blazers and knee length skirts. Together, these pieces will help you embrace the winter air with confidence.

When it comes to accessories, a chic clutch plays an important role in completing the final look. Complementary colours will heighten the main tweed piece and draw attention to you. Wearing Tweed skirts and jackets will add warmth and sophistication to your outfit. Furthermore, accents of gold and silver jewellery that layer your neckline will add glamour and expression.

When looking at the runway for Autumn/Winter, this year’s stand out silhouette was feminine tailoring. We saw struc tured suits, tailored trousers and stiff lapels. Michael Kors displayed colourful two pieces, Saint Laurent offered chic blazers and Celine gave us a classic trench. However, in reality only a minority can afford such luxe and up-market brands. So how can one achieve this look on a budget? Although it might not be obvious, you can still achieve this timeless expensive look whilst shopping from the Highstreet. All your favourite brands, including Zara, H&M and Stradivarius, boast similar products that allow you to flaunt this stunning silhouette for Autumn/Winter.

The trending

80’S

IN THE 80’S

If you look at today’s fashion, you would be forgiven for think ing that crop tops and cropped jumpers are a fashion trend reserved for women only. the 80s were a very different time, where everyone was unified in thinking that crop tops were awesome, no matter the gender. portwear and athleisure were a huge trend throughout the decade, and that led to the pop ularisation of several different styles.

Double denim is another trend often credited to the 90s, but it was the 70s and 80s that made it happen. The ultimate “cool” look, the denim trend was all about oversized jackets, tight jeans and acid wash. Double denium has recently come back into trend normaly styled with baggy mom jeans and an oversized deniam jacket with sneakers celebraties have been caught rocking the look like Bella Ha did and Hailey Bieber, we think this look will be taking over the streets for a while.

It was in the ‘80s that the popularity of the varsity jacket exploded definitively thanks to the attention it aroused in the professional franchises of American sports. they have become back in the lime light for there cool, chill, but styl ish look, that are not only worn by foot ballers now, but everyone is hopping on to this look all around the world. There are so many diffrent ways and a range of styles and there are many patterns suited for everyone.

Losers,

W e hope you know the iconic movie that quote came from. Of course you do. How could any fashionista not?

Anyway,

Do you know what is almost as iconic as that quote? Megan fox wearing her kids tops as crop tops, If you want to try a new style inspired by Megan Fox check out these 3 different ways on how to style a kids top into a cute affrodable crop top. all three of these tops can be found at primark ranging from £4-£7. All outfits have been styled with low rise jeans I find that these two items being paired together successfully recreates the iconic megan fox look whilst accentuating the crop top appearance.

When recreating this look, its best to choose a graphic printed top as it spices up the outfit more than a plain colour top. The model is 5ft6 and uk size 6 wearing age 8 tops. If you are able, you should definitely buy kids clothes, its cheaper and can definitley be a look!.

New seasons are arriving which only means one thing. New nails. heres the tea on the top predic tions for nail art and nail shades for the seasons ahead, whether you like a statement or you’re a bit of a plain jane. .

AUTUMN FRENCHIES

A very popular choice of nail that is slightly more minimalist yet still brings in a touch of autumn are coloured frenchies. They’re delicate with a bit of edge. Most trendy shape for these nails this year so far has been long almond.

To achieve this style ask your nail tech for long almond or if you prefer shorter nails, try squov el micro frenchies. For the colour try rouge noir, black, warm or cool brown shades or deep forest greens.

ALL - OVER CHROME

This trend blew up ALL over social media. It all started with Hailey Bieber and her ‘glazed donut’ nails. She has shown her glazed chrome nails on social media a few times this year so far and they have alll been neutral colours. For this autumn winter, expect ot see every shade of chrome, es pecially green, gold, silver and blue.

If this is a look you want to try layering up a chrome top coat on any shade you prefer whether thats vampy berry, forest green or you could be bold and try gold of silver.

OR, if you dont have time to go pamper yourself, try layering Essie’s new ‘Expressie FX Iced Out Fil ter top coat’ over any base colour of your choice for the ultimate at home chrome effect.

JUST ... GREEN

Everyone knows that green will always be one of the best colour for the autumn season, however this year Selena Gomez declared Olive THE shade of autumn after teaming up with her nail artist, Tom Bachik on this beautfully odd particular shade of green.

If your not keen on the olive and want something a little deeper, all over forest green will continue trending even after headlining last autumn.

If you want to achieve these nails at home with out going to a nail salon then Essie ExprEssie Quick Dry Formula, Khaki Green Nail Polish 320 Precious Cargo Go is the perfect shade of olive green if you want to mimic Selenas nails. OR, opi christmas gone plaid is a great option if you prefer the look of the forest green.

copper Hair is heating

UpThis copper/ auburn hairtrend has dominated 2022,but as this years autumnand winter has approached, its hit even harder!

“Reds and red-browns are the go-to autumn haircolour trend everyone’sembracing. Like cinnamonbrowns, deep auburns,orange-reds and strawberryblonds,” says celebrity hairstylist, Cesar Ramirez.

We need to let go of summer, wether we like it or not, but as autumn & winter approaches i couldn’t be more excited. think we can all agree that autums colour pallete consists of browns, warm tones, burnt oranges, cream and kahki. They really are the most aesthetically pleasing colours. Think about the knitwear and fur coats that we will be wrapping ourselves head to toe in with all of these shades this autumn.

I feel as though when the first leaf drops, we immediately call our hairdressers, the hair needs a change! Less of the one tone brunette and blonde, we need some warm hues and depth. Imagine if Autumn was a colour... that’s what rich copper is!

Copper hues have been making appearances on the media for over a year now. There are over 135 million views on Tik Tok’s #copperhair tag. Innumerable celebrities and influencers have been seen to jump on this hair colour for autumn

There are no signs of this hair trend slowing, its only growing and the ginger locks are here to stay.

DARK FEMININITY

What is thIS new beauty trend that has absolutely stormed TikTok?

Dark femininity is a new

the

term ‘light femininity’ which includes soft pastel colours, doe-like

One element that is particularly important is dark and deep colours such as black, blood red and dark blue, hence the name ‘dark feminin ity.’ Despite the lack of soft colours, it still keeps features of conventional femininity such as dresses and styled hair and make-up.

Another feature is a bold lip. Lip colours can be a statement within themselves and a red lip especially. Red lip colours have commonly been used as a mark of femininity and can be reminis cent of the iconic ‘femme fatale’ characters in film.

As seen on another TikTok trend, a sharp cat-like eye is ex tremely popular right now. This has been given the name of a ‘siren eye’ by the internet. This dark, sharp shape of the eye is definitely a feature of dark femininity you can recreate.

Lastly, another important feature to achieve the dark feminity look is a bold scent. Carolina Herre ra - ‘good girl’ is a great option for a deep smelling long lasting scent. However, if you need more affordable options, you can look for a perfume with the undertones of almond, cocoa and sandalwood.

GRUNGE

REBIRTH

A predominantly 90s style wiTh a 21st century twist

Grunge was an undeniably iconic fashion style throughout the 1990s, with rock bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam leading the way and Kurt Cobain being labelled the ‘father grunge’. However, even though grunge reached its peak in the 90s, it was born in the 1980s as a new type of rock that blended elements of punk and metal. It was attached to the pacific northwest, and most specifically the U.S city Seattle in Washington. The grunge movement was led by generation X (born between 1965-1980) who were fed up with conformity and capitalism. This is why grunge was mainly popular in 1st world countries such as the U.S.A and the U.K. It was driven by the notion that you don’t have to be ‘perfect’ or presentable, grunge is all about individuality and rebelling against societies norms. Therefore, grunge has a certain edge and almost dirtiness to it that most mainstream doesn’t like to present. Some famous icons from the 90s that had a grunge influence on their style includes Kurt Cobain, Drew Barrymore, Kate Moss, Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp. Some elements of grunge in the 90s includes messy/ un-styled hair, careless makeup and darker colours. Clothes included flannels, fishnets, floral dresses paired with combat boots, bandannas,

‘Grunge is all about indivuality’

band t-shirts, etc. It’s hard to pin one specific look to grunge because the main premise is individuality, however it is clear that all grunge has a dark and edgy feel to it. A lot of the style reflected the music being output such as rock and punk, countering pop culture and soft, slow music. The rebirth of grunge has seen similar elements, however updated in a modern and innovative way. With the rise of social media, particularly TikTok, a lot of subcultures have a platform to become more popular and recognised. The way the new trend of grunge has presented itself on TikTok is through different ‘micro’ trends such as ‘soft grunge’ which mixes lighter pastel colours with the edgy, rough around the edges look of the style, ‘fairy grunge,’ which incorporates hippie and grunge using darker, earthy tones. Another grunge trend that has stormed TikTok is ‘Y2K grunge.’ Y2K is a style that has been extremely popular over the last 1-2 years, with it still being an extremely popular mainstream style we can predict that a grunge version of Y2K will be around for a while. Some clothes/fashion items that evolved from grunge that you may see today are Doc Martens, fishnets, darker and messy makeup, flannels, and band t-shirts. This also reflects the spike in liberal and left-wing ideologies, with many ‘Gen Z \’kids feeling fed up with the ritualistic 9-5 capitalist society and advocating for change and flexibility within our lifetime.

Another way we’re seeing grunge live on is through a new 2022 gen z trend, indie sleaze. A report was published by WGSN about this new trend and comments on how after lockdown we want to be more carefree and have fun, describing it as a ‘post hedonistic wave.’ Some features of this trend include listening to nostalgic music (reflecting in the fashion) and music icons, having 90s and 2000s themed parties, digital camera/polaroid style photos and an antithesis to the perfect Instagram feed. Although not thoroughly grunge, we can see how it has and continues to influence fashion and music in all teen/young adult generations and will trickle through fashion movements for many years to come.

Wallows is an American Alternative Rock Band that is growing more and more popular by the day! The 3 man band have made the boys and girls swoon with their tunes. Playing at Reading Festival and Coachella this year, the band have become quite the successful trio. So you may be wondering: who are these boys and where did they come from? They’re so popular, should I be interested too? Well here you go, I put all the info into one spot for you!

How was the band formed?

In 2011, at 15 years old, Dylan Minnette started the group, Join The Band, with Braeden Lemasters, Cole Preston and Zack Mendenhall. They were students enrolled in the GigMasterz program at Keyboard Galleria Music Center in Southern California. They changed their name to Feaver and played the 2011 Warped Tour. They also used the name, The Narwhals, before settling on Wallows in 2017 (now without Mendenhall). Quite the mouthful? There are quite a few names there. So, how did they settle on the name Wallows and where did it come from? Braeden came across it when playing the video game “Tony Hawk’s Underground”. It’s a skateboarding game that has a level called “Wallows”, modelled after a real spot in Hawaii. The only meaning behind this is that Braeden really loved playing the game when he was little, how cute!

The beginning of their career.

Wallows gained attention in 2017 after one of the bandmembers, Dylan Minnette, had a starring role in the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why”. The first season was aired in March 2017 and in April 2017, Wallows independently released “Pleaser” which reached number two on the Spotify Global Viral 50 chart. So, the Netflix show may have boosted their audience as Dylan’s character, Clay Jenson, was a much loved character. It also helped that their single was shortly released after the show first aired.

In May 2017, Wallows released a second single “Sun Tan” and began playing live shows in the Los Angeles area, selling out The Roxy and the Troubadour. Their third single “Uncomfortable” was released in September 2017 and in November 2017, their song “Pulling Leaves off Trees” premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show. Their audience grew to the point where they were able to announce they would be doing their first headlining North American tour that would run from January to March 2018.

The albums.

In February 2018, Wallows signed a deal with Atlantic Records and released a new single “Pictures of Girls”. The song was chosen as a “Critical Cut” by SiriusXM Alt Nation. Wallows ended their North American tour in March 2018. Later that month, they released a second track from Spring called “These Days” and the EP was released on the 6th of April 2018.

The band sky-rocketed in February 2019 when they released their single “Are You Bored Yet?” featuring Clairo. This song is a part of thier debut album, Nothing Happens, released in March 2019. A music video was released on the same day as the album with a cameo of Noah Centineo and Kaitlyn Dever.

Wallows went on their Nothing Happens tour in February 2020. The band partnered with local non-profit charities in each of the cities,

MINNETTE Braeden LEMASTERS Cole PRESTON

on in the world at the time. It was the bringing together of people in a time of loneliness and it told people that they were all in this together.

such as Project Lazarus and the LGBT Center of Raleigh. Before each show, the band posted a list of items on their social media accounts for their audience members to bring with them to donate. They were able to donate multiple items, such as a can of food and shampoo, after each show to these charities. In an interview with 97X, a Tampa radio station, Dylan shared that the nonprofit organization they partnered with in Fort Lauderable, Florida, Handy Inc., had calculated that Wallows fans had brought an equivalent of five months’ worth of supplies to the band’s show.

In March 2020, Wallows released a new single “OK” alongside a music video. The band stated that this was a song about insecurities in a relationship. However, due to the state the world was in with Covid, the main line of the song everybody was focusing on was “Can we get up and try to feel okay again?”. It took on a whole new meaning just by relating it to what was going

In September 2020, Wallows released another single “Nobody Gets Me (Like You)” alongside the announcement for their second major EP, Remote, that was released in October 2020. Shortly after in February 2021, Wallows announced a deluxe version of Remote alongside the release of a new single “Quarterback”. The deluxe edition was released later on that month with two new tracks, the previously released single, “OK”, and a remixed version of “OK” that features Remi Wolf and Solomonophonic.

The latest album and tour!

In September 2021, Wallows released the single “I Don’t Want to Talk”. This song is the lead single of their latest album Tell Me That It’s Over, released in March 2022. The album sticks to their theme of break up songs and the audience loves it! At this point in their career, it’s the most successful they’ve ever been. Having a performance streamed on Amazon Music’s Twitch Channel and performing their song “Marvelous” on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in support of their second studio album. Wallows embarked on their Tell Me That It’s Over Tour in April 2022 and will be touring throughout 2022 and into 2023. They are coming to the UK in January 2023, so get your tickets quick because they’re selling out fast! You do not want to miss out on this new, upcoming band.

Corsets have been a staple for a long time, but the feminin corset siluhette of tiny waists and pushed up busts are back in the spotlight, being used my thousands of designers and celebrities alike. Back in the 1940’s, corsets payed a huge part in fashion, being shown by vogue and other magazines to accentuate the figure and slim the waistline.

netflix.com/brigerton

Altought it may not seem it, the re-rise of corsets stem farther back than the new season of brigerton last december. Corsets have been around for thousands of years and will be certainly worn for a long time yet. Corsets are timeless, and can be worn in so many different ways, like with cargo trousers, on top of a nice dress, as part of a dress, with skirts, with suits, and so many more ways.

“Corsets were worn by women – and sometimes men – in the Western world from the 16th to the early 20th century, although corset-like garments can be traced as far back as 1600 BC. What began as a close-fitting sleeveless bodice evolved into an undergarment with stays made of whalebone, and then steel, that encircled the ribs and compressed the natural waist. The shape of the corset evolved over the centuries, alternating between longer varieties that covered the hips and shorter versions that centred on the waistline. Corsets helped shape the body into distinctive silhouettes, from the hourglass shape popular in the 1800s to the “S” figure of the 1900s.”

REVIVAL

It’s that time again where the fashion cycle inevitably circles back around, and we gain some more staple pieces from different decades. This time, the early 70s hippie floral style, with a touch of almost psychedelic, has made a comeback to 2022. We’ve already seen the massive spike in Y2K clothes in the last few years, with a few staples returning such as low-rise jeans/pants, blingy outfits, snapbacks, mini crop tops and cargo pants. What most people don’t know is a lot of 2000s style was recycled from the 70s as well. Some features you may see in your favourite Y2K trends were actually born from the 70s, such as flared sleeves, platform shoes and faux fur trim coats.

This year the rise in floral patterns and flared jeans has been immense. We can see 70s clothes weaving their way back into the youth of 2022s closet with its free-spirited and hippie essence. But what does it even mean to be a hippie? And how does that relate to fashion, especially in the modern day?

Many people may conjure an image of substance abuse and bright colours and patterns when one mentions the word hippie, however, the life of a ‘flower child’ was much more than that. The first traces of hippies can be dated back to the early 1960s, however its style and culture was carried well into the 1970s. The hippies were a movement

created to counter American materialism, capitalism and advocate non-conformity. This filters into the fashion with features such as long, free hair, eccentric stylistic choices with bright colours and peace signs. Although this wasn’t the be all and end all of 70s fashion, it definitely played a huge role in how people viewed fashion and what it could mean as a political statement. Shortly after was the punk movement which started in 1975, which also had a political agenda as a root of their style. You could also argue that the hippies were a massive involvement in the punk movement as advocacy for peace and individualism stemmed from them. wNow, why does this relate to the 21st century? Apart from the hundreds of other subcultures and styles between now and the 1970s, one thing has stayed the same in the minds of youth, or one could argue has grown even more. This is the hunger for change and justice within a political and social sense. As stated before, it’s not uncommon to have seen fashion be used for this political statement throughout the years. In today’s world, you could argue that society is even more individualistic than ever, with many different styles and aesthetics. The youth of western culture today is undeniably liberal and left wing, reflecting in the fashion of the youth, with gen-z popularising alternative culture. This

could be a massive insight into why 70s hippie fashion has circled back around. The care-free, free-spirited life is one many adolescents crave and what screams that more so than the 70s flower power look and in years to come we’ll start to see even more 70s fashion used in modern and innovative ways.

You’d be clueless to think Cher wasn’t a 90s icon. The film changed the fashion industry as Alicia Silverstone was blessed with an iconic wardrobe which demonstrates how the preppy style can be loved in today’s fashion.

The catwalk model never fails to impress us with how effortlessly she could wear anything, from double denim to a slip dress she makes anything look good.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Still relevant in today’s fashion scene she was also leading star of the 90’s. Here she is pictured wearing fashion staples like the slip dress, which was effortlessly beautiful and has been brought back into style.

Kate Moss

With her succession spiralling in the 90’s she became a well known model all over, her collaborations with Calvin Klein brought her the iconic status which made her a fashion figure in the public eye.

The Rise Of Gender Neutral Fashion

126 CARBON - ART & CULTURE

‘Unisex and ‘gender neutral are now buzz words in the world of fashion. The industry is always changing and always moving at such a fast pace and it is now a growing space for di versity and inclusivity. Gucci are removing the the words menswear and womenswear and only producing non-binary collections along with alot of other brands, one of them being Levi’s.

However the idea of dressing how you want and being free from the gender labeled cloth ing is not a new concept. It was seen with Prince, Denis Rodman, Rick James and more. Nowadays there are countless celebrities who identify as non-binary or genderfluid such as Sam Smith, Demi Lovato, Cara Delevigne, Miley Cyrus, Sara Ramirez and Johnathon Van Ness.

What does unisex clothing look like? Well, “genderless” clothing is being designed with no specific color or texture to assign who its to be worn by, it is designed to be able to fit a variety of body types and fashion fluid, not specifically masculine or feminine.

Goose and gander is a huge growing unisex clothing brand that focuses on comfort wear such as hoodies, sweatshirts and joggers. Perfect for the autumn & winter seasons coming up.

Goose and Gander was created in 2013 by a cou ple named Olly and Maz who recognised there was a gap in the market for unisex clothing. They started up their small business with abso lutely no experience in fashion. They opened up a little shop in their local town in Bristol, whilst learning embroidery, printing and the fashion trade which came with alot of research and trial and error. Olly and Maz met in primary school and they both ended up being unhappy in their education. Olly had always wanted to set up his own business so they took the leap of faith and did it. They wanted to be inclusive and have a brand that everybody can feel comfortable purchasing from where one design can suit all. 2017 was when the business started to get some recognition. Now in 2022 they have doubled their social media following.

Goose and Gander Unisex diamond sweat £25

One of the many reasons gender-fluid apparel is trending, is because of the comfortability. Women’s clothes have a history of being uncom fortable to wear for long periods of time, and this is part of the reason so many women look for more comfortably fitting clothes, oftentimes in the men’s section.

We have seen big brand such as Zara who intro duced a line of unisex clothing for adults, while GapKids did the same for children’s wear.

TomboyX is a Queer- founded clothing brand that manufactures and designs thoughtful hand crafted items for all bodies, sizes and anyone along the gender spectrum. The founders Fran Dunaway and Naomi Gonzalez set out to make a gender neutral boxer-breif in 2012, and they were overwhelmed by the response they had. Since their boxer breifs blew up, the brand has really expanded and now offers a full range and collections of bras, underwear, sleepwear & loungewear, swimwear and activewear, all to focus on sustainability and inclusivity. TomboyX is set out to empouring the LGBTQ+ community and advocating equality and celebration of all people.

“TomboyX was founded the way many brands are, We asked ourselves, “How hard can it be to make good underwear?” And by that we meant underwear that fit regular bodies and fit how we saw ourselves. And underwear that any body could feel comfortable in, regardless of where they fell on the size or gender spectrum”

Sixty years have past since Marilyn Monroe’s tragic death in 1962, August 4th. So, to remember her, and carry on her timeless style; here is how one can achieve her iconic look today... ... a simple yet gorgeous black dress, paired with black stilleto pumps, and a pearl necklace. Monroe’s most memorable fash ion choices include; gowns without sleeves; curve-hugging dresses - bodicon dresses are still very popular today, because women want to excentuate their curves; silk or sequined gowns; and fur stoles.

The Story of Monroe

Monroe began her life in California, LA, with a mother from Mexico (Gladys Pearl Baker) and an abusive step-father (John Newton Baker). Monroe’s real father, Charles Stanley Gifford, was Gladys’s coworker who she had an affair with, and he was only discovered as her biological dad in 2022 after DNA testing was completed.

After a happy early childhood, her life changed, and her mother had a mental break down, followed by a paranoid schizophrenic diagnosis, and Monroe was sent to live with her mother’s friend.

However, this was not permanent, and Mar ilyn was sent to the LA Orphans Home and to several foster families. She was abused, she felt abandoned by her parents, and developed a stutter, becoming withdrawn from life.

Monroe states “I didn’t like the world around me because it was kind of grim ... When I heard that this was acting, I said that’s what I want to be ... Some of my foster families used to send me to the movies to get me out of the house and there I’d sit all day and way into the night. Up in front, there with the screen so big, a little kid all alone, and I loved it.”

NewYork Falling 135ART & CULTURE - CARBON

Just being in NYC in the fall is an experience in itself—for a few brief months, we all channel Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail and breathe in the crisp air filled with the smell of leaves and pretend we’re in the middle of a love story for the ages (maybe we are). It’s true that NYC is one of the most sought out places to experience the best that fall offers, from delightfully spooky Halloween events and festivals to gorgeous leaf-peeping opportunities and some of the best festivals.

Visit Halloween Town. Autumn in NYC is tough to match! From September 30 to October 31, Los Angeles’ beloved Haunt O’ Ween will finally pop up on the East Coast in Holmdel, New Jersey—an hour’s drive from NYC. Haunt O’ Ween gives similar spooky but quirky, family-friendly vibes with around-the-clock trick-or-treating, a carnival with rides and face painting, and a walkthrough and tunnel of glowing jack o’lanterns, including nine “worlds” you can explore across 200,000 square feet. Of course, there is a pumpkin patch perfect for picking out your gourd and a carving station where you can bring it to life with a design. There will also be a DIY Potion Bar at “Moonlight Magic,” Dance Domes in a “Beyond The Grave Rave.”

Walk the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze. The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is back with surreal creations this year, like a giant pumpkin dragon and NYC streetscape made of hundreds of pumpkins each. The massive blaze has two locations—Hudson Valley returns to its location at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson for the 18th year and Blaze: Long Island returns to Old Bethpage Village Restoration in Old Bethpage for the third year and you can see this spectacular until November 20th.

3Get a Glow Up. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is bringing back its gorgeous, after-dark illuminated spectacular to its grounds in November. Lightscape, which is a one-mile, illuminated trail of art from local and international artists, hits BBG starting November 16 and will once again feature the iconic Winter Cathedral and a larger Fire Garden—all set to over a million lights, colour, and music. Food concessions along the trail will offer seasonal treats like s’mores and spiked hot chocolate for adults. “The largest and most extravagant, artistic winter lights exhibition in NYC history, this distinctly Brooklyn-flavored celebration encourages everyone to find happiness and beauty, and create festive, fun gatherings with friends and family, at the darkest time of the year,” said Adrian Benepe, president and CEO. “We hope residents and visitors from around the region will make Lightscape at BBG an annual tradition.”

Watch a film at the NY Film Festival. Easily one of the best things to do in the fall, the annual New York Film Festival dates back to 1963 when it established a mission of bringing the best work from around the world to Lincoln Center. Excitement is already feverish for this year’s 60th edition, thanks to the August announcement of this year’s main slate lineup which will include Noah Baumbach’s White Noise, Chinonye Chukwu’s Till Will World, Mathieu Amalric’s Hold Me Tight, Kiro Russo’s, 4K restorations of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours trilogy, and a long-overdue retrospective featuring selected works from director, producer and screenwriter King Vidor.

Get your Giggle On. The New York Comedy Festival is where the best of the best comedians of NYC gather each year, and this year, it’s going to be an all-out hoot with more than 200 comedians performing more than 100 shows at venues throughout the five boroughs.

If you’ve laughed at comedy shows in NYC in the past five years, it probably had something to do with at least one of the comics on the insanely stacked lineup this year. The festival brings a variety of comedic disciplines to town (and from around town), from stand-up to improv to sketch acts. It’s one of the best NYC events in November. Get ready to laugh until your sides hurt at some of our favourite NYC comedy clubs around town

Fall Foliage by Rail. One of the best ways to experience New York’s gorgeous fall foliage is on the rails. The Adirondack Railroad will take you through forests and over rivers and streams with a colorful trip from Utica to Thendara. For more mountain views, hop into an open-air car and take a fall adventure train ride on the Catskill Mountain Railroad (pictured). At the end of October, the railroad runs the Pumpkin Express where passengers choose their own pumpkin to take home and decorate. The Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railway will also take you on a fall excursion along the tranquil Susquehanna River and through farm fields and forests. Amtrak, Metro-North, and the Long Island Rail Road also provide ample opportunities to explore fall foliage by rail.

Get ready for Crimbo. Macy's Thanks Giving day parade is the stuff of legend and marks's the city's move from its Fall celebrations to the season of light and gift giving. Before the turkey is trimmed on November 24, giant balloons, Broadway stars, marching bands, the Rockettes, and Santa will spread joy through the streets at the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, ushering in the winter holiday season in epic fashion. When it comes to locating the best places to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – it helps to know where the parade actually goes!

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade starts at 77th Street & Central Park West, at 9am in the morning. The Parade then goes south towards Midtown, on Central Park West.

As you’d expect, the best places to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, will be along this route, or as close as possible to it.

The first main area for viewing is Columbus Circle. At this point, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade turns east onto Central Park South. This is another great location to view the parade from.Once the parade has reached 6th Avenue, it turns south to 34th Street. Then it’s straight down 34th Street, towards Bryant Park and Macy’s Herald Square.Without a doubt, one of the best places to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is along Columbus Circle.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to access the sidewalk on Columbus Circle, as this is now closed to the public. However, you can try and sneak into the Shops at Columbus Circle to get a decent view of the parade from the elevated floors.

Although it’s not perfect, this is an excellent way to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from a warm, toasty viewing area (perfect on a rainy day!). Follow us on Insta @carbononcampus for more NYC insider tips and other travel insights

Hoover up her words. Dare to fall in love?

The #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Colleen Hoover, has swept book lovers off their feet! Hoover writes modern romance novels, that are perhaps more targetted towards the older teenager and young adult as the content may not be seen as appropriate for the younger audeince. Girls have stormed TikTok, naming Colleen Hoover as the ‘Queen of BookTok’. However, Hoover has been writing books for years. Why has she all of a sudden become popular?

‘CoHo’s’ first book ‘Slammed’ was published in 2012. This turned into a series of books, following with ‘Point of Retreat’ (2012) and ‘This Girl’ (2013). However, Hoover became popular in the March of this year through Tiktok. With help from @beentherereadthat_, who posted a Tiktok of the book cover of ‘Reminders of Him’ (2022). The Tiktokker had only posted this few seconds of a clip to show what new book she had been enjoying. It went viral and everybody wanted to read this new book. From there a massive fandom grew as people began to venture out into her other books.

This is how ‘It Ends With Us’ (2016) became her best seller. With Tiktok’s galore, fandom’s being formed and merchandise being created; it’s a story gone viral. Teens all over the world are reading the story of Lily, Atlas and Ryle. It’s had girls in tears and so many debates on TikTok. It is worth the read.

As ‘It Ends With Us’ became so viral, Colleen Hoover decided to write a sequel.

‘It Starts With Us’ was released very recently on the 18th Ocotber 2022. Teens have been rushing to the shops all over the globe to get their hands on the sequel. Multiple Tiktok’s have been posted about their journey getting the book, reading the book and...you guessed it... crying over the book. Many tears have already been shed and girls are dying for their friends to read it. Could this be the next best seller? Could it overtake ‘It Ends With Us’? Will Colleen Hoover forever be the ‘Queen of BookTok?’ Only time will tell.

The Blurb: Lily and her exhusband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil co-parenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she

immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date. But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life - and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Switching between the perspectives of Lily and Atlas, It Starts with Us picks up right where the epilogue for the bestselling phenomenon It Ends with Us left off. Revealing more about Atlas’s past and following Lily as she embraces a second chance at true love while navigating a jealous ex-husband.

“The Big Three”

The Blurb:

Sometimes the one who loves you is the one who hurts you the most.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up - she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan - her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector.

The Blurb:

Attraction at first sight can be messy...

When Tate Collins finds airline pilot Miles Archer passed out in front of her apartment door, it is definitely not love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. But what they do have is an undeniable mutual attraction.

He doesn’t want love and she doesn’t have time for a relationship, but their chemistry cannot be ignored. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up, as long as Tate can stick to two rules:

Never ask about the past and don’t expect a future.

Tate is determined that she can handle it, but when she realises that she can’t, will she be able to say no to her sexy pilot when he lives just next door?

The Blurb:

Are you ready to stay up all night? Rebecca meets Gone Girl in this shocking, unpredictable thriller with a twist that will leave you reeling...

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of the night their family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already-grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her...

Living withImperfectSkin

For me, it all started at the age of 14. It began with small bumps across my forehead and cheeks. I knew nothing about skincare, i look back now at the ways i attempted to treat it and i did it all wrong. I also look at how it affected my mental health. I have struggled with my skin for years now, I tried all different types of medication, harsh acids, becoming allergic to prescribed creams, i have done it all! Of course there are days that i still feel rubbish, feel jeal ous of others clear skin and wanting to cover scars and marks left behind, but this is a part of me and who i am.

I once read an article in 2021by Bethany Futon about her journey and acceptance with acne. She quoted “My perception shifted when i stopped basing my self-worth on my appearance” This was something that really stood out to me as i had re alised this quote was exactly what i was doing. I would have a heavily acne targeted skin care routine, to make my self be lieve i was doing everything i could, when really, it was doing more harm than good. To follow on from this routine, i would then take progression pictures every week which i would obsess over, in order to find positive changes, which actually, were not there. Since researching proper ways to treat my skin, i have educated myself so much about my own skin type and safe ways to look after it. Now, aslong as my skin is hydrated and healthy, i am happy, but dont get me wrong it takes alot.

There is alot out on social media promoting the normalisation of flawed skin, however, majority of the time i’m seeing filters, photoshop, smoothing tools and lighting. Acne is so normal and so real. I know for some, including myself, that it takes so much and a very long time to start accepting any flawes and imperfections. Such an important part of this growth is understanding that nobody is ‘perfect’, they’re not, and that is absolutely okay. Wether your skin is completely clear, smooth and radiant, or you have spots, scarring and texture, you are beautiful and none of it, defines you as a person

I struuggle mainly with low self esteem, feeling overly conscious of what others might think. I also struggled to cover my breakouts, due to bumpy textures.

Although i have suffered with skin problems for a year now, it is definitely something i am still coming to terms with and accepting. Some days i couldnt care less, and others i dont want to leave the house. I just have to tell myself that i wont have bad skin forever and that its completely normal.

‘Yes absolutely i can feel self-conscious, although it is difficult to distinguish the difference between real, normal skin and filters. When scrolling through social media, it almost feels like a constant reminder that you dont have ‘perfect skin’. Unfortunatley i cant say that i have seen a huge amount of normalisation on social media.’

a code most girls know, and no man could crack. over the prevuous weeks i have been wondering if girl code was an actual code or if it was more of a bunch of ‘morals’ that magority of girls have. to figure this out i asked 3 diffrent girls, some simple questions about ‘girl code’ to figure out not only their opinoins on it, but to also see who ‘girl code’ resonated most with.

the first person to awnser my questions was Kat, who is a 23 year old. the second was Caili, who is 18. and last but not least Willow who is 15. i found during my talks with the girls that most of the younger girls (14-17) have a “stronger sense” of girl code or just belive in it more. as i spoke to the older girls i came to notice the girl code wasnt really a thing, more just a sense of kindness and morals. what do you think, is “girl code” real?

SECOND HAND STYLE

Is it possible to be a sustainable shopper in the 21st century?

In recent years society has become increasingly more aware of the ugly truth about fast fashion. Many brands use fast fashion, some that you would not even expect.

I’m sure most of you have heard the scandals around Shein using child labour and paying staff awful wages, but did you know that some of your favourite brands such as Nike, H&M and Zara use sweatshops in locations such as Bangladesh, Thailand, and India. Although not as extreme as online shops such as Shein and Romwe, this still influences the brands sustainability and ability to be ethical. Leila Salazar, corporate accountability director, told The Guardian in 2001 that, ‘During the last three years, Nike has continued to treat the sweatshop issue as a public relations inconvenience rather than as a serious human rights matter.’ Therefore, there is no true ethical consumption of fashion in a capitalist society. However, even in what seems like a dystopian, unfair, and unethical society, there are still ways we can improve our sustainability as a 21st century consumer.

One obvious way to shop more sustainably is charity shops. They are great to browse and pick up some staple items you need for every day, plus the prices are super cheap. This limits the amount of clothes waste and ultimately the production of fast fashion. Not only does this slow down fast fashion, but it also saves landfill tax for all British residents.

There are quite a few charity shops in most towns and cities, making this a very accessible choice. However, the options for plus size people are limited and finding an item of your clothing in the style you want can be

a challenging task.

Another option is looking for retailers that have sustainable lines. House of sunny is one example. They state that they are ‘using eco-technologies, recycled materials, biodegradable packaging and aim for a no waste policy.’ As well as this, there are many small businesses that you can access online or around cities that aim to be eco-friendly, plus better quality than a lot of sweat shop made items. However, because these shops strive to achieve full sustainability and ethics, and some items are handmade by the sellers, the prices can be quite expensive for teens and young adults, who are the prime users of fast fashion companies such as Shein. This is a viable choice for millennials or older, who are more likely to have a stable income and a full time job. What are some better options for those who can’t afford extortionate prices?

Depop and Vinted are an excellent choice for teens and young adults who want to buy clothes in their style but also shop more sustainably. 40% of under 24s (statistics taken from thredup.com) say they strive to shop second hand as much as possible. Gen Z is steering a way towards a more sustainable future, with trends emerging on social media platforms such as ‘thrifting’ and ‘Depop hauls’ etc. This promotes the idea of being more eco-friendly as a consumer and works in favour for today’s youth as prices are affordable. Depop is set up much like the layout of an Instagram homepage, giving you the opportunity to like, comment, save or even message the seller about certain items. This, new and innovative idea of second hand shopping may just be paving the way for a more eco-friendly future in the world of fashion.

What’s the worst thing about long distance? It was agreed overall that the worst thing was the lack of intimacy mixed with the insecurity that comes with being away from their partner. Paranoia was also brought to the table; yet was quickly dismissed since 2/3 of the couples felt secure enough in their relationship. First off, how far away is/was your SO? J: Shes in China R: it was 5 hours M: 2 hours As uni students many of us have either witnessed or experienced a long-distance relationship. When I moved into my accommodation and met my hall mates, I was mildly shocked to find out that many of them were involved in a long-distance rela tionship. Before coming to uni, I was strictly advised by those around me to not get a boyfriend since it would probably end in disaster. I decided to ask those around me not only their opinions of long-distance relationships but also their experiences so far. Long distance relationships Noun A romantic relationship between two people who live far apart and are unable to meet on a frequent basis LONG DiSTANCE RELATiONSHiPSDesigned and written by Elize Roberts 154 CARBON - LIFESTYLE

What do you miss most about them?

J:” I would say her smell, or just sleeping next to her, the comfort of it I guess. And when she got shy, she would tend to hide herself, I don’t know why but I miss seeing that.”

R:” they way they would roll their eyes when annoyed, or just the little manner isms. I mis the thing I didn’t think I would most.”

M: ”the way he would squeeze my hand when I’m nervous. Just playing house actually/ being domestic”

What’s helping you deal with the distance most?

J: “just doing normal things on facetime, not necessarily talking, just like sitting together, doing our own separate homework or cleaning our rooms.”

R:”visits, they came up a lot to visit, but both our schedules would kind of clash, so”

M” visits were very helpful, we facetime all the time. We are also messaging but we know that some times we can’t talk in the day, so we do like a movie together at night, that way we can sleep but be together”

Would you recommend doing long distance relationships to first years?

J: “it’s doable, but best to avoid really”

R:” No”

M:” ummm, if you’re willing to put in the effort”

Reeling in a life of Alicia, What does she do?

HOW DID YOU START?

I started in lockdown after my friend, who’s a youtuber, needed some help with editing. I didn’t think much of it and first and just sort of did it as a bit of a hobby while everyone was stuck inside.

WHAT ADVISE WOULD GIVE SOMEONE STARTING OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME? AND IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY?

My best advice is contact as many managements as you can, because the worst thing they can do is say no or just not reply, and I definitely would’ve had a showreel to add to my emails, as that way the management can really see your work.

WHAT EDITING SOFTWARE DID YOU INITIALLY START AND WHAT DO YOU CURRENTLY USE ?

I initially started on iMovie which is the editing program that comes for free when you buy an apple product. but now I use Final Cut Pro which I can only describe is a more detailed and complex version of imovie.

WHO WAS YOUR FIRST CLIENT AND WHAT’S YOUR CURRENT CLIENTELE?

My first client was Ellie Louise, and I now work for a bunch of people! including love islanders like Chloe Burrows, Dami Hope, Indiyah Polack. And Tiktokkers who also post youtube videos like Nikki Lily, Grace Conder, Glambyflo and more!

I’ve also worked with brands like Motel Rocks editing content for their tiktoks which showcased their new clothes!

Looking at her Instagram page, she has highlights of the editing process. Showing some of her clientle and what video she is editing during that time of day.

More information that I found through her social was that her social presence is loud, as she has over 2000 followers and posts regularlly. Posting a story on Instagram to let people know what she is doing.

I asked Alicia what tips would you give and this was her response :

My tips is always be available. if you pick and choose when you want to edit / what videos you want to edit, clients will see you as unreliable and will just find someone else as it’s an extremely competitive business. in the almost 3 years that i’ve edited for others i’ve never said no to a video, and only ever taken 1 week off which then i have pre-edited the videos for that week in advance.

Alicia Kent is a 19 year old video editor who lives in Manchester, she is currently studying Film Production as well as being a full time editor.

I found out about her quite a while ago when I used Twitter to find internet friends, ever since then we have followed eachother on socials.

Also I used to be an editor myself, I found it hard to edit videos within a short peroid of time, so it is really amazing to see her editing as a full time job.

If you want to contact her, you can find her on Instagram at @aliciakentt.

delve behind the scenes with Junior Buyer Katie Thacker as through their ‘New Season Edit’

Get to know Katie...

What is your job role at Boux?

I am the Lingerie Junior Buyer at Boux Avenue.

How long have you worked at Boux?

I began working at Boux in store in 2014, time has flown & it’s now been 8 years!! When I went to University I was lucky enough to be able to transfer between two stores (one at home and one at Uni) so I could continue to work alongside my degree. Once I graduated in 2018 I was offered the role of BAA on the Lingerie team in head office. Since then I have been promoted to Assistant Buyer and now Junior Buyer!

What interested you to go into Buying?

I actually sort of fell into it... I did textiles and graphics for A level and definitely wanted to go down a more creative route but don’t have the drawing ability to be a designer!! Buying is perfect as it merges creativity with commericality

Did you study buying at University?

I studied Buying and Merchandising at uni. This was perfect as it gave me an understanding of how close the buying and merch teams work together, and how each function fits into the entire process. Definitely made me sure I wanted to go into buying too (not as many spreadsheets)!!

How would you best describe the new season edit?

The new season edit is the perfect transition into the Winter season. The collection is made up of some amazing statement embroidery ranges, particularly Ellie which is a stunning sheer ground embroidery range with lurex yarns and comes in the full set. The colour is what makes this collection - incredible bright cobalts, rich purple/orchid tones as well as an amazing turquoise colour!

More about the collection...

How do you and your team work collectively to build this collection?

We all work together throughout the entire development process to create a collection we all love and and know the customer will love. Buying works with each department at different stages throughout the product lifecycle and are involved end to end, from planning to design selection, and from

fitting to marketing to visual merchandising. Building the collection is a huge team effort and requires input and insight from each team!

What are the key trend focuses in this collection?

Key focuses for the Christmas collection are fabrics and trims. As we move into the Winter season we really focus on diamante trims, scattered diamantes and hotfix crystals which are all key for the Christmas glamour season. We have also reinvented our Bouxtique collection for this season so this is super sexy, key focuses for this are the fabrics - PU & branded flock mesh are key. The whole range encapsulates true Christmas glam and has something for everyone!

How does this collection transition the customer into the glamour season?

The ‘New Season Edit’ collection is the perfect transitional collection, this has just the right amount of sparkle and shine throughout the embroideries and laces to ease the customer into the true glamour season

What’s the development process for a seasonal collection at Boux?

The development process for lingerie is the longest in the business as this is such a fit critical product. We begin planning our collections a year in advance of when they will arrive in stores, so we began planning the Winter 22 collection, last September. We begin by analysing last year’s sales and bestsellers, work with design on trends, colour and a framework of options and attributes. We then work together as a team to select designs to sample. Once new development samples come through we review these, make styling & colour comments and sign off the range with the team. Once orders are sent to suppliers we then begin the fit & lab dip process. It’s amazing when this is all done and we can work with marketing on campaigns and see the collection really come to life!

How has trend research played a part in the development process of this collection?

The design team do trend research and interpret this into moodboards and colour palettes which we use to inspire our collections. The trend research is crucial for inspiring new fabrics, shapes, textures, styling and colour palettes. Once the team have pulled together the moodboards and colour palettes, these will be used from the design stages all the way through to

our lookbooks and guidelines which are sent to our store teams when the collection is delivered.

What’s your favourite piece in the new season edit?

My favourite piece is definitely our Saffie range, which we have seen a phenomenal reaction to! This style has an amazing high shine (almost wet-look) lace with gold hardware and wide strapping elastics. This comes in a full set with matching leg harness & looks incredible on!!

What a dreamy collection!
