Who we are What we do
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ (H&SS) departments and programs offer students the breadth of a traditional liberal arts education in the humanities and social sciences while preparing them for a wide range of professions, for graduate school, and for advanced professional study in fields such as law, education, public administration, clinical psychology, and business. H&SS provides many opportunities for students to be involved in faculty research projects, participate in professional internships and be active members of student clubs. Students may study in Washington, D.C. or in one of several overseas programs that take place during the regular academic year, summer, and intersession.

H&SS students earn academic credit while interning in Washington. Internships are with nonprofits, advocacy groups, congressional offices, executive agencies, museums, security firms, business groups, political parties, artistic organizations, news and media companies, and a variety of other offices in and around Washington, D.C.
Beyond the
Classroom
H&SS students can study abroad to gain first-hand experience of interacting with other global citizens and gaining experience that benefit them on their career journey in an global economy.
REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE Many H&SS students graduate with internships, field experience, student teaching, or clinical placement. 75% of graduating seniors report that they have completed one of these experiences.

SOUTH CENTRAL COASTAL INFORMATION CENTER Provides comprehensive archaeological and built-environment information for Orange, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties.
CENTER FOR SUSTAINABILITY Acts as a focal point and coordination hub for sustainability-related activities on campus.
