Established in 2006, Careers Australia has grown to become Australia’s leading private provider of vocational education and training (VET). Careers Australia has helped over 58,000 students open the door to opportunity. The Careers Australia VET in Schools curriculum is developed specifically for secondary school students and delivered by qualified educators with industry experience. Available to years 11 and 12, our courses are responsive to student needs. Research confirms that students who undertake VET programs transition more successfully to further study and the workplace. (1) With the youth unemployment rate at an all-time high, our VET in Schools program can provide students with the competitive advantage they need to thrive after school.


what is UPREP?

Our UPREP (University Preparation and Readiness Program) has been designed to assist students to develop realistic expectations of university and the study skills required to succeed in an adult learning environment.

Studies show these are both critical elements in a student’s adjustment from school to university (2). Our UPREP program allows students to undertake an Accredited Australian Diploma program in their final years of secondary school that provides practical business skills and theoretical knowledge of business and management practices. The course includes university readiness workshops that cover topics such as independent learning, where to find support at university, guidance for writing a variety of assessments, database searching and referencing. Successful completion of a diploma through our UPREP program can result in up to 12 months of credit and a potential saving of up to $9,821.

Reference: saving is based on the 2015 annual fee for a Bachelor of Business at Flinders University


The UPREP program is contextualised to assist South Australian secondary students to successfully transition into one of the following degrees: ●● Bachelor of Business ●● Bachelor of Commerce

Entry requirements for UPREP UPREP requires students to be working towards a SACE and to have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. To determine a student’s suitability for UPREP, each is required to undertake a LLN test administered by Careers Australia and participate in a formal interview.

Benefits for students ●● In accordance with the SACE Board’s Recognition of VET Policy,

students will receive 10 credits for every 70 nominal hours or 5 credits for every 35 nominal hours of successfully completed VET study. The Business Diploma can provide students with approximately 65 credits.
