How does this fit in with Sports Chaplaincy accreditation and placement? The Foundations of Sports Chaplaincy course has been developed in partnership between SCNZ and Carey and aligns with SCNZ’s accreditation requirements. SCNZ manages the accreditation process and determines suitability of candidates for accreditation as a Sports Chaplain. Your Sports Chaplaincy placement is most likely to be the equivalent of completing either Contextual Theological Praxis or Reflective Field Education via recognition of prior learning. Together with you, SCNZ will coordinate placements and supervision within sports organisations.

Jesus told his disciples “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go, I am sending you…”. That’s the mandate for the Sports Chaplains to pastor people who would not normally darken the door of a church. God is raising up a movement of people willing to invest their lives into a sporting community, knowing that’s the only realistic way much of our sports-crazy Aotearoa will ever encounter Jesus personally.”
