APRON BASICS

Apron Basics Function First Our Aprons have been designed to look great and be super functional! Style is important, but if your Apron doesn’t make your job easier when you are busy doing your thing, it will only frustrate. Aprons are designed with large functional pouch pockets to fit notepads and iPads discreetly, as well as easy-tie straps for staff to be ready to serve your customers efficiently. They also come in a range of styles – cross-back, neck strap, and waist aprons meaning you can put function first for your staff depending on your individual venue requirements.

APRON BASICS

Cross Back Aprons Cross Back Aprons are recommended for teams spending long shifts on the floor. Whilst Aprons play the role of representing the business and identifying the staff member, they also play a part in protecting the wearers clothes from stains and spills. Through its functional design, The Cross Back Apron style ensures no pressure is placed around the neck of the wearer.

FAST FACTS: • Straps sit on the shoulders and cross at the back, distributing the weight of the straps evenly, providing all day comfort. • The wearer can choose to tie the straps to the front of the apron or to the back.

• Insiders Tip: Straps tied to the front hold the Apron straps more securely, assisting the straps from sliding off the wearers shoulder. • Washing Tip: Remember to remove your Apron Straps before washing your Apron.

CROSS BACK SIGNATURE STYLES:

APRON BASICS

Neck Strap Aprons A neck strap style is quick & easy to put on and take off, particularly handy for at home use. A single strap sits around the neck and is adjustable to fit the wearer's needs. They are designed with adjustable strap functionality so the wearer can pick the best length for optimal comfort.

FAST FACTS: • Insiders Tip: Neck Strap Aprons are the preferred style worn by Chefs navigating the bustle of a busy Kitchen.

• Wearers Tip: Make sure your Apron sits comfortably positioned mid chest, no need to wear your Apron so high it rides up near your collar bones… not comfortable or cool, just sayin.

APRON BASICS

Waist Aprons Waist Aprons cover the hip area of the body, leaving the legs free for easy movement. Also known as Server Aprons or Half Aprons, Waist Aprons are super practical for storing notepads, iPads and bits & bobs. Waist Aprons tie simply around your waist, and provide a casual, versatile Apron solution for relaxed dining environments as well as bars and roaming retail roles. The Waist Apron is also popular for Spa and Beauty Crews who prefer full upper body movement. FAST FACTS: • Insiders Tip: Tie your waist apron straps to the front and tie a one loop bow for a chic styled look.

• Wearers Tip: Waist Aprons that fall below the knee offer a more elevated waist style that works perfectly for venues seeking a sophisticated, understated look.

Things to consider Selecting a new uniform provides the perfect opportunity for a new-look refresh and an Apron is the hero. Knowing where to start can be tricky, so we’ve put together 5 key things to consider. We hope this is a valuable starting point before you update or roll out a new uniform that will give you an end result your staff and customers love. Our amazing team are also available to help with advice, styling and roll out too!

THINGS TO CONSIDER

What Type Of Business Are You? Are you a fine-dining restaurant or casual pub? An all-natural beauty service? An artisan baker? A boutique hotel? When you think about customer experience, your staff are most often the first touch point for your customers, whether it be through guest services or front of house servicing. The role of the staff uniforms should not only allow staff to be easily recognisable at this critical stage, but importantly reflect the image of your venue and business. The look of well-dressed staff helps set the tone of your business and inspire feelings of relaxed vibes through to elevated formality and your staff’s uniform should be something your customer relates to.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

What are the colours of your brand or venue? A good way to ensure your staff uniform fits in with your venue is to decide on a colour palette. If your venue interior is full of neutral earthy tones it’s a good idea to carry this through to your uniform range with fabric colours like Forest, Tobacco, Mocha, Chocolate, Pebble and Charcoal. For a bold contemporary environment, choose denim with a pop of colour in your apron straps or accessories. We offer a range of fabric colours that can bring your team to life. We step through our tried and tested fabrics, our strap options to complement your apron style and break down the best positions for logo embroidery and pockets for keeping your team’s must-haves with them on the go.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Let’s Talk Colour At Cargo Crew we believe an Apron forms part of your visual language of your venue or business and is a talking point that sets the visual identity. The colour selection of your Apron will help determine the tone you want to set for your venue or event. The colour palette you choose for your team is an opportunity to bring bright fun, understated chic or tonal delights, all based on the power of colour.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Do you involve your team? A great way to assist with the successful roll out of a uniform is to have a ‘uniform champion’ from your staff to give thoughts and feedback at the initial planning stages. They can be a great influence for a smooth and considered uniform roll out and take ownership of feedback, new starters and reorders. If you have several locations, it can be a good idea to test one location first, before rolling out to all. View our case studies online for examples of successful uniform roll outs.

Fight the Fade™ Let’s face it, aprons are designed to get dirty. They require frequent washing to keep things looking fresh. As the Apron Experts, we made it our mission to develop an exclusive fabric that was specifically created to withstand repeat washing and still look great wash after wash. Our incredible Fight the Fade™ fabric holds strong against common washing products including Oxygen Bleach agent stain removers such as Napisan, Vanish and Sard Oxy. Our trials show washing over 100+ times shows no obvious change in colour.

Apron Care Expert Tricks to remove stains Whilst many marks and dirt will remove easily from our aprons with regular washing, there are some stubborn stains that require a little more TLC to remove them from the fabric.

76

Red Wine Stains Sometimes tough stains such as red wine need additional products and care to remove them before machine washing. For red wine, we suggest covering the stain in salt and soda water and leaving to sit for around an hour. If you don’t have instant access to soda water you can just leave the apron sitting in salt for the hour. After the hour has passed, brush off the salt and continue to flush the stain with soda water until it has noticeably faded. You can do this by propping the fabric over a sink (or bowl) and pouring the soda water through the stain allowing it to drain. Rinse in warm water and then throw in the washing machine on a warmer temp (60 degrees) with detergent.

For really heavy stains you can repeat this process up to 4 or 5 times. Pour more bi carb and add some vinegar to the front of the stain and let this bubble. Rinse and put in the machine on a warm wash with detergent. As an alternative to vinegar, you can also use dishwashing liquid that is designed to fight through tough grease stains. After going through the process with bi carb add dishwashing liquid to the back of the stain with warm water and continue to scrub until faded. This is almost like a pre-wash. Stick in the machine and wash in warm water with detergent. If the stain has set or is extra stubborn you can repeat this process multiple times. On lighter-coloured garments, the best result you may be able to achieve is fading the stain, to lessen its appearance.

Pro Apron Tips Really Stubborn Stains, e.g. Oil Really tough stains may need even more work. Oil stains can be hard to remove, so for the best chance we recommend combining bi carb soda and vinegar. To action, sprinkle bi carb generously over stain and leave to soak. Use a toothbrush to scrub this noticing the bi carb clumps up due to collection of moisture. Brush off and repeat process until clumps begin to look smaller.

Avoid ironing or machine drying the stain before you are sure it has completely disappeared as the heat can help set the stain. It’s important to react to the stain instantly! We recommend venues to have a spare apron on hand to use in these times. You can also add a small amount of white wine to a red wine stain to relieve this once dried and stained. Cotton aprons are more likely to absorb liquids more quickly than polyester which will sit on the surface of the fibre.
