Exposure (Social) Learning (20%)

In the 70/20/10 learning model, the 20% refers to the percentage of learning that occurs through exposure or learning from others. This component emphasizes the importance of learning from different perspectives, mentors, leaders, and peers to gain insights and diverse experiences.

At Carhartt, the 20% component of the learning model is supported through various initiatives:

Mentoring programs: facilitated mentoring relationships where experienced asociates mentor and guide less experienced associates. This enables knowledge transfer, career advice, and personal growth support.

Leadership development programs: leadership development programs bring together leaders from various levels and functions to share experiences, challenges, and best practices, fostering a strong leadership community.

Carhartt Coffees: Carhartt Coffees is are virtual networking events where associates can interact with colleagues from different teams or locations, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of ideas.

Cross-functional teams: Working in cross-functional teams allows associates to collaborate with colleagues from different departments, providing exposure to different perspectives and ways of working.

Business Resource Groups: BRG stands for "Business Resource Groups" at Carhartt. These are voluntary, associate-led groups that bring together people with common interests, backgrounds, or characteristics. BRGs at Carhartt provide a platform for networking, professional development, and support, fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace culture. They play a vital role in promoting employee engagement, sharing perspectives, and contributing to the company's diversity and inclusion initiatives. Some common BRGs may include groups for women (The Riveters), veterans (Veterans Resource Group), LGBTQ+ individuals (PROUD@Work) , and associates from different cultural backgrounds (BRIDGE, #CELEBRATE, Carhartt Amigos).

The exposure to diverse perspectives and experiences through these initiatives helps associates at Carhartt expand their understanding of the organization, develop soft skills such as communication and collaboration, and build a strong professional network. It also encourages a culture of sharing and learning from one another, contributing to the overall growth and development of the workforce.
