Red Hind Is Still Under Seasonal Closure

The red hind (Epinephelus guttatus) is under seasonal closure in territorial waters around all Puerto Rico (0-9 nautical miles). This closure begins on December 1, 2022 and extends through February 28, 2023.

The annual seasonal closure on fishing for, or possession of, red hind grouper includes federal waters (9- 200 nautical miles) west of 67° 10’ W longitude in Puerto Rico. This closure begins on December 1, 2022 and extends through February 28, 2023.

The red hind closure is not a species closure in the USVI but an area closure during the aggregation period and it only applies to the portion of Lang Bank that is in federal waters (3-200 nautical miles). This closure begins on December 1, 2022 and extends through February 28, 2023.
