Do you know them? They are species that are not overfished, do not have fishing prohibitions, and represent a sustainable alternative for fishing and cooking. This time, we present the diamondback squid.
It is an oceanic species; common in warm tropical and subtropical open waters, only rarely approaching the shelf zone. T. rhombus is named for its fins which run in equal length along the mantle, giving the appearance of a rhombus. Mantle thick, muscular, tapering to a blunt tip posteriorly.
Grows up to 100 cm (3.3 ft) in mantle length and a maximum weight of 30 kg (66 pounds) and it is fished with electric reel and winch. It is a major food resource and is used in cuisines around the world The body can be stuffed whole, cut into flat pieces, or sliced into rings The meat must be frozen for at least two weeks to keep it tender. The arms and tentacles are also edible.
