Moms take their children to the first day of school at Bruderheim Elementary School, Sept. 3. The children, clutching dolls and other forms of security items, display a mixture of joy and apprehension on their faces, while the moms have broad smiles.
New era for school at Andrew
MAUREEN SULLIVAN Changes have begun for Andrew School as a new school year begins. The school moved to a new K-9 configuration. Former grades 10 to 12 students have been moved to either Lamont High School or Vegreville Composite High School. A new bell schedule took effect starting with busses arriving at 8:00
a.m. and classes starting at 8:18 a.m. Dismissal is at 2:50 p.m. Staff changes include some longterm staff leaving and former VicePrincipal Greg Cruickshank takes over as Principal this year. "There is a different feel in the building as we move to our new K-9 configuration. The change is a difficult one and we will miss the high school stu-
dents in our building," he said. "However, we will move forward and continue to focus on making Andrew School a beacon of learning and development in our community. We have some incredible opportunities with our small size and it’s important to focus on those opportunities." Starting this year, Andrew will be following Elk Island Public School
Board’s directive on cellphones and other personal communication devices. Students in grades kindergarten to grade six must store their device in their locker and should not use this device during the day. Students in grades seven to nine may use their devices at lunch or recess breaks only, and they must store their devices in their lockers during class.
