Last Thursday, April 14, the Tofield School gymnasium came to life once again as senior drama students took to stage, acting and directing four one-act plays as part of ‘Night of One Acts’. The four plays acted out in order were – The First Date, Men Who Worry Too Much And Hug Too Little, How To Hide A Dead Body, and Oprah Made Me Do It. According to Drama teacher Melissa Korpan, all the plays were selected by student directors of the Senior
Drama Class. “We held the auditions in class, where the students perform monologues, then the student directors discuss who they would like in their casts,” Korpan said. “They decide what they are looking for since they are the directors.” The First Date was written by Kristyn Leigh Robinson and directed by Kalya Kugler. Men Who Worry Too Much And Hug Too Little was written by Janice Fronczak and directed by Ashton Roberts. How To Hide A Dead Body was written and directed by Jessica Hill. Oprah Made Me Do It
was written by Bradley Hayward and directed by Rebecca Montgomery. “It was nice having the students perform in front of a live audience again,” Korpan said. “The energy in the gym Thursday night was awesome, and I could tell that my students fed off it.” Except for The First Date, the other three plays will be performed at the Zone 3 One Act Festival held at Ardrossan Jr/Sr High School over three days, where there are seven competing schools. Plays that are selected by adjudicators at the festival will be heading to provincials.
