Tofield Lodge installs new address sign Kari Janzen Staff Reporter

The Tofield Lodge now has an address sign out front, for the first time since 1998. On Wednesday, August 23, many residents took a seat outside to watch the installation of the new sign. “They’ve been very excited to get this sign. So, of course they all wanted to see it get installed. It was kind of a big deal,” said Tofield Lodge manager, Lynnette Warawa. Boulder Designs from Camrose installed the sign, and Warawa and John Macdonald designed it. “The residents all voted on what kind of sign that we wanted, and they chose the boulder. And then John and I came up with the design on the front,” said Warawa. The sign depicts a windmill and a wheel, reminiscent of what the rural landscape looked like in times past. The project has been in the works since last summer. “Jan, our past man-

ager, really wanted to make it happen. We were just doing some pricing and figuring out how we were going to pay for it, and then she passed away in February. Our resident, John Macdonald, who was her next door neighbour for many, many years, wanted to pay for it in her memory,” Warawa said. The address for the Lodge used to be on the side of the building. “When they did the build-on, they lost a bunch of the letters on the side of the building. Somehow they got stolen or misplaced, and so we never did get them replaced,” said Warawa. Also a recent addition to the Lodge is a new gazebo. “That's just another one of Jan's projects that she really wanted done, but she never got to see it complete. We had some fundraised money, and that's what we did with it. The residents love it, and love being outside. We also have some memorial benches coming, but they aren't here yet,” Warawa said.
