Holiday Train makes special stop in Hardisty

The CPCK Holiday Train rolled into Hardisty last Wednesday, Dec. 6, where hundreds of people had gathered to watch its arrival and take in a free concert provided by the Anyway Gang. The train stayed in Hardisty overnight, then travelled to Camrose the next day where another daytime stop was scheduled. See more photos and details Page 28.

RCMP contacted by Fish and Game on multiple suspected poaching and night hunting calls Killam RCMP Detachment occurrences Friday, Nov 24 to Thursday, Nov. 30 Friday, Nov. 24 A Killam Member was called to Daysland to a theft of truck in progress. Subject was gone when Members arrived. Gate was cut and truck stolen. The vehicle was later found burned out in Tofield. Surveillance reviewed. No witnesses or suspects. A break and enter was reported from an energy site north of Hardisty. Damages to building and wire stolen. No witnesses or suspects. Another break and enter was reported from an unoccupied residence. Antique furniture and other miscellaneous items were stolen. No witnesses or suspects. Killam Members attended a break and enter at an energy site near Hardisty. Subjects were driving a maroon/brown Ford Super Duty. No surveillance available. No witnesses or suspects.

Damage to power poles and transformers was reported from Fortis. Members already on scene. No witnesses or suspects. Related to previous file. Killam Member mediated between family members in an argument over items left on property. Member advised them that they needed to come to a mutual agreement for the property. NonCriminal. A Killam Member performed a curfew check on Subject bound by conditions of an undertaking to remain at his residence between 2200hrs and 0700hrs. Nobody home at residence. Subject was found, arrested and released on an Appearance Notice. Saturday, Nov. 25 A report was made of a white Suburban dragging wire down RR 414. Wire left on the road. Member attended and wire not found. Sunday, Nov. 26 Fish and Wildlife requested the assistance of Killam Members in seeing if a

Subject vehicle that was associated with a poaching call was at the Registered Owner’s residence. A Member drove by the residence. Vehicle was not located. A fraud of over $5,000 was reported. Complainant was defrauded out of a large sum of money thinking she was investing in products. Member in contact with the financial institution. Monday, Nov. 27 Killam RCMP were dispatched to a sudden death and related Missing Persons complaint in Forestburg. In consultation with Forensic Identification Services, Serious Crimes Branch and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, it was deemed not suspicious and there are no concerns for public safety. The file is still under investigation pending further results from the Medical Examiner. A report of fraudulent cheques going through the Complainant’s bank account. The financial institution has reversed the withdrawals. Member is in contact with the bank. File is still under

investigation. An abandoned vehicle was reported on Range Road 141. A Killam member called the registered owner and it was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from a business in Forestburg but hadn’t been reported stolen. Vehicle was towed. Members were called out to a suspicious persons/vehicle. Complainant reported having seen Subject slumped over the wheel of the vehicle. Members attended. Subject was outside of the vehicle. Plate did not match the vehicle. Vehicle was towed. Subject charged with Possession of property obtained by crime and released on an Undertaking. A suspicious persons/vehicle was reported in Forestburg. The Complainant believed this vehicle was involved in night hunting. Member advised Complainant to call Fish and Wildlife as they were investigating night hunting. Continued on Page 10
