Sudden death in Forestburg deemed not-suspicious On Monday, Nov. 27, Killam RCMP were dispatched to a sudden death and related Missing Persons complaint in Forestburg. In consultation with Forensic Identification Services, Serious Crimes Branch, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the incident was deemed not suspicious and there are no concerns for public safety. The file is still under investigation pending further results from the Medical Examiner. The name of the deceased has not been released out of respect for the family. Killam RCMP Detachment occurrences Friday, Nov 17 to Thursday, Nov. 23 Friday, Nov. 17 A 2004 grey GMC Sierra was reported stolen in Heisler. Nothing was heard in the night. No witnesses or suspects. A 1997 Wells Cargo trailer was reported stolen from an oil lease site. No witnesses or suspects. Killam Members were called out to an abandoned vehicle near Galahad. A Vehicle had been sitting on a road across from the cemetery for a few days. Members attended and vehicle was gone on arrival. Saturday, Nov. 18 A suspicious vehicle/person was reported in Forestburg. Member spoke with the Complainant who advised a red truck had been parked by Killam Towing.

A man was seen walking with a headlamp from the railroad tracks and was picked up by the red truck. Truck left town westbound of HWY 53. A Killam Member was asked to assist a Sheriff with a possible impaired driver. A Member attended and assisted the Sheriff. ASD administered and Subject was allowed to leave. Members were called out to assist Daysland Hospital with a patient being verbally aggressive. Subject was asking for morphine for pain and the hospital was not going to administer it. Member attended and Subject was feeling better and left. A suspicious white car was reported driving around Daysland; describred as an older white car driving slowly around town. Unknown license plate. Patrols made. Subject vehicle not located. Sunday, Nov. 19 A call was made of a dog found in Daysland. Unknown owner. Complainant was provided with multiple numbers for shelters and bylaws. Complainant was advised that police do not take dogs at the detachment. An attempted theft of a truck was reported in Sedgewick. Surveillance showed one male attempted to steal a vehicle overnight. Damage to the door handle and ignition. An alarm went off and the Subject fled. A suspicious male was also reported walking in Sedgwick around the same time. Male was known to police. Insufficient grounds to charge. Monday, Nov. 20

Damages were reported at an abandoned oil lease site. A Member attended. A tractor was used to pull wire out of the site. The tractor was later reported stolen and recovered near the lease site. It was reported that an erratic driver was Continued on Page 10

Pasztor elected to Hardisty Council Leslie Cholowsky Editor

Hardisty recently held a by-election, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, to fill one vacant Council seat. Three candidates put their nominations in, Grant Imlah, Sherry Lesmeister, and Julie Pasztor. After the election, Pasztor was declared the winner, with 56 total votes. With 400 eligible vot-

ers, just 87 voters cast a ballot during the municipal by-election. Pasztor will be sworn in as Hardisty’s new councillor at the next regular Council meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12, With Pasztor filling the seat, Council will now return to a full complement for the first time since former councillor Logan Campbell resigned his seat on Aug. 1.

The big man himself, Santa Claus, arrived in Killam on Friday, Dec. 1, in style during the Parade of Lights, part of the Christmas at the Crossroads celebration this weekend.
