Viking residents flock to Christmas supper Patricia Harcourt Editor
The Viking Seniors Christmas Supper and party Sunday night was a festive occasion with many people flocking to one of the social events of the holiday season. Garry Wolosinka, president of the Viking Seniors Association, welcomed everyone to the centre’s great room, which was filled with visitors on Sunday evening, all there to enjoy a delicious Christmas dinner and entertainment. Wolosinka remarked on the large crowd and thanked everyone for coming out to this annual event at the centre. In the last couple of years, he and other vol-
unteers have been working to make the Seniors’ Centre an attractive place for people in the community to come and utilize, no matter their age. And this major event was just the ticket to showcase for these community members just what has been happening at the centre. Before the meal began, Pam Mykityshyn said “Grace” as everyone bowed their heads in a prayer of thanks for the bountiful harvest they were about to enjoy. After this, the lineups were long for the meal catered by Food with Flair, with Donna and Jack Brooke receiving a large round of applause in appreciation for their delicious holiday spread.
Entertainment was provided by musicians Deb Hill and Darlene Thibault, who both played guitar and sang before and after the dinner. Camrose MLA Jackie Lovely attended, providing a turkey and a gift basket for the evening’s draws. Ilef Docksteader won the gift basket and Linda Clark took home the turkey. “Thank you so much for the invitation to join you all,” said Lovely, in her greeting. “That was a very nice meal and I really enjoyed it. I’m from a small farming community and I always feel so comfortable when I come out to Viking. You are all so friendly and make me feel welcome.” In closing, Lovely
offered everyone a “Merry Christmas!” The association president then gave an overview of what the centre has been doing and credited the work of the volunteers for making it happen. “Thanks to all of our volunteers in this organization,” said Wolosinka. “These small communities are all run by volunteers. We’re very lucky to have all the volunteers we have.” The centre currently has many irons in the fire, all being spearheaded by these volunteers and encouraged by Wolosinka. He proceeded to name people and the activities they have started, some of which are cribbage tournaments, floor Continued on Page 8
