Your LOCAL Paper! Dana Andreson Three local gymnasts who participate in the competitive gymnastics program out of the Wainwright Gymnastics Club attended the California Grand Invitational in Anaheim, California with their teammates on January 28 and 29. The competition had over 2,300 athletes from all over the United States participating, along with a few Canadian teams as well. Jorja Andreson, who retired from the sport in 2020 to take on coaching, started training again last summer so she could have one last year of competition for her Grade 12 year. Makayla Hill, who did the same, decided to join
her. These two gymnasts are set to graduate this year from Viking school. Jorja also coaches her niece Paisley Merta, who came along to compete in her first international competition in Level 2. All three girls had a great meet displaying their new routines for the season and came home with some cool medals. Jorja won second on beam, third on vault and sixth all around. They medal all the gymnasts in the all around, and in total our team won 24 medals. The Wainwright club they belong to had 12 girls competing in this competition. They reported having a great week taking in the sights of California and hanging out with their teammates.
