The Viking Minor Hockey U7 Tournament was a great success at the Viking Carena Complex last Saturday, January 21. The Bullzeye Fire & Safety U7 Gas Kings were the hosts for this day’s worth of fun, which fielded eight teams playing their hearts out for family and friends. The games were 60 minutes in length each and played on 4x4 half ice. Each game was played at a fast pace over two 30 minute periods of straight time action, with lines changed every two minutes.

The teams who gathered for the day were Viking Gas Kings 1, Viking Gas Kings 2, Battle River Knights, Forestburg Thunderstars, Mannville Hawks, Holden Oilers, Strathcona Warriors Major 3 and Strathcona Warriors Major 4. Heart and Hustle and MVP awards were given out at the end of each game, and medals were also presented after each team had played its second (last) game. Viking U7 Heart & Hustle winners were: Reid Broadhead, Gunnar Gaboury, Tanner Docksteader, and Bentley Arndt. MVP awards went to these Viking U7 players: Logan Parr, Aderet D’Silva, Logan Page, and Hayes Hafso.

“Some of our players helped out the Holden team and they kindly awarded Bo Hafso and Berkley Hafso as MVP on their team for their games,” said U7 Gas Kings team manager Lindsay Hafso. Other fun events included prize and raffle tables, a puck toss, 50/50 draw, and full concession. Family and friends had a great time watching their favourite teams and players put on a show for the people in the stands. And another well used part of the Carena was the indoor play centre and mini stick rink, which was always occupied by younger children. For the entire day, the sounds of hockey rang out at the rink, watched by their adoring fans cheering them on.
