Celebrity fundraiser in Irma a terrific success Gwyneth Gulbraa
Friday, July 7, was a beautiful day for a Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Irma Golf Course. Several celebrities teamed up with local golfers for a day of fun and fundraising for Irma’s new “Zamboni” and Arena Planning Project. These celebrities included: Shaun Newman, who hosts “Shaun Newman Presents;” Darryl Sutter, who most recently served as coach of the Calgary Flames and his son Chris; Bob Stauffer, host of “Oilers Now;” and Gerry Johansson, NHL Agent for the Sport Corporation. Other celebrities included: Scott Ratzlaff, who has just recently been drafted for the Buffalo Sabres; Kennedy Ganser, who recently signed with the Metropolitan Riveters; Logan Ganie, Michigan Tech Forward; Connor McClennon who recently signed with the Chicago Wolves; and Jagger Firkus, Seattle Kraken Draft Pick. After muffins and danishes, 83 golfers hit the greens, which look beautiful. There were prizes to be won, but visiting was more important and after the golf everyone enjoyed a fantastic meal served by “Just Like Mom’s” Catering at Irma School. In order to eat, someone at the table had to answer a hockey trivia question. Bob Stauffer kept everyone entertained; guests also had a chance to bid on the numerous wonderful silent auction items. Bob Stuaffer’s remark was that Irma is “a place that thoroughly defines community and has a real appreciation for nature and is a market for and has a fundamental

understanding for agriculture.” Bob certainly seemed to enjoy his day! Although Carson Soucy didn’t golf, he was in attendance and three of his jerseys were auctioned – they were “hot-ticket” items raising a great deal of money for the fundraiser. Everyone hopes and agrees the Vancouver Canucks will
be a better team now that Carson has signed to play there! Then Shaun Newman hosted a “Fireside Chat” on the stage with Gerry, Darryl, and Bob. Mr. Newman has interviewed celebrities such as Don Cherry and Danielle Smith on his podcast. QR codes were provided on the tables so the audience could submit ques-
tions to the panel. Ty Fischer commented, “It’s a great turnout with lots of support from our community once again to help fundraise for a good cause.” Irma Agricultural Society appreciates everyone who purchased items and tickets, the sponsors, the celebrities and anyone who helped make the day a success.
