Jagger Firkus drafted to the NHL Eric Anderson
A dream came true as Irma’s own Jagger Firkus was selected into the National Hockey League by the Seattle Kraken at last Friday’s NHL entry draft in Montreal. Firkus was taken in the second round, 35th overall. Firkus joins fellow Irma product and good friend Carson Soucy as Seattle property after a breakout season with the Western Hockey League’s Moose Jaw Warriors that saw him score 36 goals and 80 points in 66 games. He added another 12 points in 10 playoff games. "I'm so happy," Firkus told Kraken digital staff in an interview over the weekend. “Now that I'm with the Kraken, it's so great. It's obviously an unbelievable organization and I have someone (Soucy) I can lean on a little bit.” The whirlwind continued for Firkus as he joined Seattle’s other prospects on Sunday for the Kraken’s inaugural Development Camp. It is expected he will return to the Western Hockey League to play in the fall following the opening of Seattle’s training camp in mid-September. However, there always exists a chance that a strong camp could lead to a spot on the NHL roster. Carson Soucy meanwhile is coming off of a career year with Seattle that saw him produce 10 goals and 21 points in 64 games on their blueline. The 27-year-old former Minnesota draft pick has a year left on his current contract as he looks to prove he’s one of the team’s most valuable defensemen.
