Canada Day in Tofield Each year the breakfast offers gluten free options, available by calling ahead of time. The Canada Day Parade procession began from the Tofield School and completed the route in front of the Tofield Health Centre. The parade had numerous floats and also included horses, fire trucks, vintage vehicles and tractors, kids’ sports teams, the RCMP, Legion members, local businesses, and bringing up the rear was a Town of Tofield street sweeper. Following the parade, a BBQ lunch could be had at either the Tofield Fire Hall or the Tofield Legion, and people could have free cake for dessert as well. The Tofield Fire Department serves burgers on Canada Day every year. “We do 500 burgers and we sold out last year and again this year as well,” president Krysten Hoculak said. “It's usually all hands on deck. There's 22 of us today.” Story continued on Page 4 More photos Page 8
BY KARI JANZEN Many were in Tofield to celebrate Canada’s 156th birthday on Saturday, July 1 in Tofield. The morning began with a pancake breakfast at the Tofield Community Hall, hosted by the Bardo Lutheran Church. “This year, the thing that is different is what we're fundraising for. We are raising money for an X-ray machine in a hospital in Guatemala,” event organizer Jennifer Heiberg said. “The one that they have is old and not as comprehensive as the one that they're getting now. “They are approximately a quarter done building the hospital and last year we provided funds to help with a generator and when we were there in February, that had been installed and was working.” Heiberg said it was nice to see what all their efforts had produced. There were 385 adults and children who came out for breakfast Saturday morning, which is up from 375 people in 2022. The pancake breakfast usually serves around 400 people, and Heiberg said their “biggest breakfast was the centennial of Tofield in 2009” when 604 people showed up.
There was a large turn-out for the Canada Day pancake breakfast.
Tofield ended its Canada Day festivities with an excellent fireworks display.
