Tofield’s Kay Procter recognized by BRSD Procter recipient of the Friends of Battle River Award MOUSH JOHN Editor
Longtime community volunteer Kay Procter was awarded the Friends of Battle River honour on Thursday, May 9, by the Battle River School Division (BRSD). She said she wasn’t expecting it, and was humbled by the honour. BRSD Board Chair Karen Belich said, “I’d like to point out that this is the first time in our history that we have received two completely separate nominations for the same person, from two completely different people,
in two completely different schools, totally unaware of the other’s nomination. And that person is Kay Procter! “The staff members who made the nomination both identified Kay as being a dedicated volunteer who personally makes about 12 loaves of sandwiches each week, for distribution through the lunch programs at CW Sears, Tofield and Northstar Outreach schools.” Belich further added that Kay’s dedication and care contribute to the success that students from Pre-K to Grade 12 are able to experience at school, espe-
cially those for whom food security is an issue. “Thank you for everything you do Kay. Your care and compassion are obvious and so appreciated.” Each year BRSD trustees invite members of the BRSD staff to put forward the names of individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to their schools, the school division, or to education. There are five categories of nomination, with one selected in each category. There is a category for a division-wide nomination, which would be a person or organiza-
tion that has made contributions to schools in multiple parts of the school division. There are also four ‘ward’ categories, for people or organizations who have made contributions to one or more schools within the same geographic area. After the nomination deadline, a committee of board trustees and staff reviews the nominations and brings forward recommendations. When a roster of ‘Friends’ has been identified, they are contacted and invited to join the following Continued on Page 4

Tofield/Beaver West FCSS hosts Senior Appreciation events
MOUSH JOHN Editor
Each year the first part of June is commemorated as Seniors’ Week, and this year was no different, from Jun 612. Events were hosted in Tofield and Ryley by
Tofield/Beaver West FCSS in partnership with Town of Tofield, Beaver County, Village of Ryley, Beaver County Community Adult Learning, and Ryley FCSS. A breakfast was held in Tofield at the Golden
Club on Wednesday, June 8, and a luncheon was held on Friday, June 10 at the Ryley Legion. “Both events were a small gesture to show our seniors that we truly appreciate them and are thankful for all
they have done to build our small vibrant communities,” said Tracey Radley, Executive Director of Tofield/Beaver County West FCSS. “At the Tofield Golden Club, we had a wonderful group preparing and serving breakfast and
bringing seniors to the event with the Handivan. This included CAO Cindy Neufeld, Vanita Eglauer, Councillor Brenda Chehade, Lavonne Svenson, the Hyrhirchuks, Sandy Brolly, Jamie Sutton, and Susan Lungal.
