Cowboys and livestock came together to put on a show for the spectators at this. year’s exciting 42nd Annual Cloverlodge Stampede last Saturday and Sunday. A parade Saturday morning saw some rain fall but not enough to dampen the spirits of the entrants or prevent enjoyment at seeing the passing parade. In fact, despite rain threatening to interfere with the weekend plans, it fell mainly in the evenings after the rodeo was completed each day. Events included bareback riding, novice horse riding, tie-down roping, ladies breakaway, junior steer riding, steer wrestling, junior bull riding, junior breakaway,
barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, team roping, and bull riding. Stock contractor Miller Rodeo Company provided outstanding professional animals to challenge the riders and other entrants, with especially exciting action from the steer wrestling, horse riding and bull riding events. Bullfighters Josh Haeberle and Cole Grinde provided an extra layer of protection for any rider who got in trouble exiting an angry horse or bull. And the pickup men, Herman Peters and Chad Thorsten, kept the animals in check and exiting the arena seamlessly. This was rodeo announcer Dom St. Armand’s first time at Cloverlodge Rodeo, and he kept up a running banter with Rodeo Clown Tyson Wagner. The rodeo clown helped with
the kids’ activities during intermission where a group of both boys and girls competed for two bicycles during the boot race. The bicycles were sponsored by the Buttner family. Stick horse race ribbons were donated by Rosegarland Welsh Ponies of Viking. The Viking Community Festival also donated a Bouncy Castle for both days for the children to
enjoy. The rodeo has run for 42 consecutive years, and was organized by Cloverlodge Stampede Executive President Cory Haeberle, Vice President Gerald Sevcik, Secretary Muriel Hill and Treasurer Taryn Chomik, and many committee members who volunteer their time to make the event so successful over the years.
