Viking Class of 2022 celebrates Graduation Patricia Harcourt Editor

A celestial night was staged for 28 students at Viking School during graduation ceremonies in the Viking Carena Complex with a packed crowd of family and other well wishers in attendance. Masters of Ceremony for this year’s send-off were teachers Stephen Hrabec and Lori Sarafinchan, who introduced each grad as they came onstage during the Recessional. Grad Jocelyn Klein gave the President’s Message thanking those who helped the class arrive at this milestone in their lives, and MLA Jackie Lovely (Camrose) congratulated the students on their achievement. Representing Battle River School District, trustee Lyle Albrecht said it was “a privilege to watch these young people grow.” He advised the students to: ”Do what you love and love what you

do,” and “follow your dreams and passions.” A message from Superintendent Rita Marler who could not attend was read out during this time Dale Pederson (Division 5 Councillor) offered congratulations on behalf of Beaver County, and Viking Mayor Laura Yakiwchuk gave greetings on behalf of the Town of Viking. An audio message was played from Viking School Principal Kelly Arial, who said the graduation “represents 12 years of hard work,” for the grads. She said that “the days ahead will bring many new challenges and opportunities. “Where ever the next chapter takes you, we wish you success and happiness as you get ready to leave our school,” she said. Erin Hollar representing the Parent Council, told the grads that “there’s always more than one path to a destination, what ever that may be,” and that “kindness costs nothing and can be life

changing. “I’m so proud of you all, go out and take on the world,” she said. The video presentation was a chance to see sentimental photos of each grad as they grew up with their families at home and with each other at school. The “Most Likely To…” segment was performed by grads Joshua Arndt, Landon Hogstead, Connor Hoffman and Garrett Russnak, with lots of laughter for the predictions made of each grad. “Memorable Moments” were read out by grads Jessie Lentz, Denise Schmaus, Landon Hogstead and Kevin Mizera. Darby Naslund gave the Valedictory Address thanking teachers and parents for their help, stating: “We couldn’t have done it without you.” And although it was sad to part, she expressed hope for each grad’s future as they make their way into the world.
