Killam Killam Rodeo Rodeo worth worth the the wait wait

Ally Anderson The Town of Killam was abuzz on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, with the return of the Killam Rodeo for its 50th year, as well as the Blacktop Bonanza, Show N' Shine, and Motorcycle show. With three years between events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Killam hosted two days of fun for all ages. This year had a record number of entrants to the Killam Rodeo with over 230 ready to try their luck at taking home some prize money. Friday night was family night at the rodeo, with a few events as well as the ever-popular mutton busting kids. There was a full roster of brave six and under children who took on the rowdy sheep and had the crowd roaring. That evening also showcased the Daring Divas Trick Riders for their first show that evening, then doing their show for the Saturday night performance. Later that evening, a spectacle of fireworks lit the town up with a spectacular show from the Killam Ball Diamonds. Saturday morning started off a little wet, with a small thunderstorm rolling

into town. The parade began as the sun started shining and the line of floats were driving around town with spectators lining the streets. As the parade made its last turn around town, the Blacktop Bonanza on Main Street was flooded with eager kids to get onto the many bouncy houses, euro bungee, or take a swing at 9-hole mini golfing, while parents and adults alike were lining up at the various food vendors, or to admire some beautiful classic cars and motorcycles at the Show N' Shine and the Motorcycle Show N' Shine. The Killam Braves also had a tournament that afternoon at the ball diamonds to a good crowd of fans. The Flagstaff Regional Emergency Services Society (FRESS) and the Killam Fire Department did a demonstration for those in attendance at the Blacktop Bonanza that afternoon on how they use various pieces equipment at accident sites. They explained their step-by-step process on cutting a vehicle apart during rescue operations with their hydraulic cutters, and then using the Jaws of Life to pry the vehicle apart. The FRESS and

fire department members were ready to answer any questions that were tossed their way. At the end of the demonstration, they had kids and adults come try out the hydraulic cutters and snip a piece off of a car door to take as a souvenir. Saturday evening was when the big Rodeo show began. The stands were full of eager fans waiting to see some bucking broncs and bulls, barrel racers, steer wrestlers, and calf roping singles and teams take on the

rodeo. The evening did not disappoint, even when the bulls took the win for the evening and knocking each cowboy off in a flash. There were a large variety of barrel racers in attendance as well as team ropers, each eager to show off their speed and skills. The success of the weekend was all thanks to the Killam Ag Society for planning the event, and to all of the volunteers to help run the entire weekend smoothly.
