Awesome Sports Day in Ryley

The tricycle racing at the Community Hall parking lot drew large crowds June 17. Kids raced the peddled three-wheelers around a track, sometimes flipping them over in their enthusiasm. Above two racers head into the first corners of the track.

Ryley Mayor Brian Ducherer states the Village has had a rough year, but he added the large crowds and success of the Village’s Sports Day turned the corner away from it on June 17. “We had fantastic crowds and I think it was one of the best Sports Days the village has ever put on,” he said. Ducherer, who admits to enjoying cooking hot dogs, said he probably cooked and served between 400 and 500 dogs to give away to the crowds that gathered at the Community Hall following the parade which started the day. The parade ran through the village’s main street where large crowds of children raced to gather up candies tossed by parade participants. Following the parade, activities swung into full gear at the Community Hall where the Camrose train gave rides around the village, kids raced three wheeled tricycles around a track, and others played in bouncy castles and slides, and safe archery lessons and a mini golf game were held. “It’s a day we put on for the kids,” added Ducherer. “Overall it was an absolute great day. Kids lined both sides of Ryley’s main street as the Sports Day parade passed by on June 17, with many participants tossing candy. As the parade came to an end there wasn’t much of a gap between the parade floats and the kids waiting to pounce on any candy coming their way.
