Big fun in Kinsella for Beaver 4-H fundraising event Kari Janzen Staff Reporter
The Beaver District 4-H held a fundraiser in the form of an adult community dance alongside a silent auction at the Kinsella Community Centre on Friday, June 23. Event organizer Kari Cameron said this was the first time a fundraiser event like this had been put on by the District. “[In the future] we’re hoping to try to do adult-only and then a family event,” alternating every year so that the 4-H members can come. Around 150 people were in attendance Friday evening. “There’s a lot going on this weekend, so a lot of people are busy, so we’re just grateful for who’s here,” Cameron said. The evening began with dancing instructor Sherry Tovell from Dance With Me, a social dance group from Camrose, leading everyone onto the dance floor to start the event off on the right foot. Travis Dolter, from Hay Lakes, and his band provided the music for the evening. The live entertainment was spon-
sored by the Viking Lions Club. Dolter played many country songs from across the decades alongside some of his own original works. The midnight lunch was beef on a bun, “put together with love by all the District 4-H members,” Cameron said. The Viking Beef Club was responsible for the desserts, the beef was prepared by the Holden Beef Club, the buns were ordered by the Beaver Multi Club, and the salad and condiments gathered by the Tofield Beef and Multi Club. “All volunteers at the event are 4-H families and alumni. We could not have put on the event without them,” Cameron said. Silent auction items were donated from local businesses throughout the District. Attendees could also donate to the cause by playing dart poker. Cameron said just under $9,000 of net proceeds was raised through the event. All funds will go towards the Beaver District 4-H Clubs which include the Tofield Beef and Multi Clubs, the Holden Beef and Multi clubs, and the Viking Beef Club.
