Flagstaff District 4-H Beef includes four area clubs. They are Battle River 4-H Beef, Hastings Coulee 4-H Beef, Iron Creek 4-H Beef, and Wavy Lake 4H Beef. This past Sunday, June 4, and Monday, June 5, represented the culmination of months of hard work for young members who have been working hard on their beef projects. This year’s show was held at the Killam Memorial Arena. On Sunday, the Flagstaff Cleavers took to the ring first, with eight different members from three of the four clubs participating. For many of the young Cleavers, it
was their first time in the ring, but you’d never know it from the poise and skill they showed. Judge Katie Songer took a moment to speak to each member, and overall had high praise for this group. After the Cleavers, the Female show was held, first the clubs individually, then the overall District Female and Reserve Females were picked. Kasey Adams from the Hastings Coulee club won Grand Champion Female, and Abby Rancier from the Iron Creek Club won Reserve Champion Female. Monday was the big show, starting with the individual club shows, starting with Wavy Lake. Grand Champion Club Steer went to junior member Claire Stefanishion, with Reserve Champion Club Steer presented to
Alyssa Zimmer. Stefanishion also won Club Rate of Gain. Next came the Iron Creek Club Show, with junior member Aunua Lee Stevenson winning not just Club Rate of Gain, but overall District Rate of Gain. Iron Creek Club Champion Steer went to junior member Sara Jane Ruzicka, with intermediate member Dayna Ruzicka winning Reserve Club Champion Steer. Iron Creek member Kade Rancier won Flagstaff Grand Champion Steer. The Battle River Club show saw Reid MacKinnon take the Club Champion Steer, with Reserve Club Champion Steer going to Avery Dolany. Club Rate of Gain was won by Kiley Sutter.
The Hastings Coulee Club produced this year’s Flagstaff District Reserve Grand Champion Steer, and Club Grand Champion Steer from Kasey Adams, with Reserve Grand Champion Steer going to Levi Martin. Hastings Coulee Rate of Gain winner was Jorja Strauss. Judge Brayden Schmidt had his hands full in the ring, trying to choose a winner between all the excellent steers. Other judges included Weight Judge, Dusty Howell, Showmanship Judge, Andie Schmidt, and Grooming Judge, Kelsey Knott. Ringmen for Sunday were Jed Curtis and Keely Adams; and for Monday’s show, Kenzie Hays and Elise Mohler.
