Irma U13 Girls win Provincials for second year in a row Gwyneth Gulbraa The Irma U13 female hockey team, coached by Tausha Erickson (head coach), Clay Holt, Darcy Gulbraa and Darren Prior travelled to Lethbridge on the last weekend of March to compete in Provincials. While Heart and Hustle Awards were distributed at every game, manager Carrie Larson stated, “Every girl deserved this award at every game!” The girls met their first team, the hosts, on Thursday at 1:45 p.m. and beat them handily with a 10-4 score. Scoring for Irma were: C. Boe (2), C. Broadhead (2), with one each from: L. Prior, W. Fletcher, S. Larson, R. Erickson, E. Gulbraa and A. Newton. Assists: C. Broadhead, L. Prior, and W. Fletcher. Shots were 58 for Irma and 13 for Lethbridge. Afterwards they enjoyed supper at the unique Water Tower Grill, which is an old water tower converted into a restaurant – 100 ft. in the air providing its diners with a marvellous view of the city. Friday’s game was against St. Albert and Irma bested them 7-3. Scoring for Irma were: S. Larson, R.
Erickson, C. Broadhead, W. Fletcher, E. Gulbraa, T. Hollar and E Holt. Assists were from: S. Larson, R. Erickson, W. MacKay, E. Fenton, and C Boe. Then there were the opening ceremonies; the National Anthem was sung in three languages: Cree, French and English. The team dined at Moxie’s and was impressed at the service for 65 people. They also had team photos taken at the Lethbridge Bridge. Beaverlodge didn’t have much of a chance going up against the Irma Females, who were giving their all on Saturday, winning that game 8-1. Irma’s scorers were: S. Larson, R. Erickson, C. Broadhead (2), W. Fletcher, E. Gulbraa, E. Holt, and T. Hollar. Assists were from: S. Larson (3), R. Erickson (2), W. MacKay,
E. Fenton, and C. Boe. The host banquet was held at the Coast Lethbridge Hotel and Conference Centre; and reports were that it was terrific with a wonderful supper, door prizes, minute to minute games, a photo booth and a dance. How much fun can you have, though, when you have to get sleep so you can play in the semi-final and perhaps final game the next day? Stettler Storm squared off against the Irma Aces Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the semi-final game. The shots were 51 for Irma and 8 for Stettler as Irma worked them over and won 7 to 1. Scoring for Irma were: E. Gulbraa (2), S. Larson, C. Broadhead, Continued On Page 2
