Lamont County municipalities gather for Remembrance Day BY JANA SEMENIUK Several Remembrance Day services were observed throughout Lamont

for the second year in No Stone Left Alone, where children are included in the tribute, by each child laying a poppy on a cross, totaling 26; one for every local life lost in the war. Approximately 250 people gathered for the indoor service which included stories, songs and prayers by local church leaders, elected officials and Lamont County Emergency Services. Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk delivered a speech focusing on remembering all the lives lost and the impact of their sacrifice that is still felt today. “Too many have entered the terrible fields of battle, and have not returned. (We will) not forget them,” she said. “It is our duty to remember those who have given so much sacrifice so that today we may enjoy the freedoms and the rights that we hold dear.” The town of Bruderheim also held an indoor service before marching to the town cenotaph to lay wreaths and observe two minutes of silence at the 11th hour. In the village of Andrew, approximately 175 people, including 25 military members from the Edmonton Garrison, attended the service which began with a march from the village office to the cenotaph at 11:00 a.m. followed by a ceremony in the community centre. The village of Chipman gathered at their National Hall before marching to the town cenotaph, led by Staff Sgt. Terry Higgins with the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP. Refreshments were provided at the Seniors club courtesy of the Village of Chipman and the Chipman Historical Society. The town of Mundare held a cenotaph ceremony where wreaths were laid on behalf of MP Shannon Stubbs, MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, Lamont County, Town of Mundare in addition to other local community groups and organizations.
