HAUNTED HOUSE returns to Viking in new venue Patricia Harcourt Editor

It’s going to be a chilly Halloween night this year with the first snowfall of the season taking place on Monday. But Halloweeners might have something else to ‘shake’ about besides the cooler temperatures thanks to plans this year for an “All Hallow’s Eve Haunted House” organized by the Viking Historical Society on October 31. “The haunted house is taking shape, volunteers are meeting,” said Kyla Lawes, on the society’s social media page. Volunteers have been busy preparing the inside of the former New to You (Anglican church annex) for the partiers. In the past, the Historical Society has featured many such nights that were held at the Viking Museum. But that ended when the pandemic began. Since then, the Historical Society has acquired, along with the Town of Viking, the property on which the former New to You building sits and members are busy turning it into another ‘spooktacular’ event for Halloween. The Historical Society is returning with “The All Hallow’s Haunted House,” which includes two versions - the ‘kid friendly’ version runs from 3:15 p.m. to 7

p.m. and the ‘spooky version’ runs from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. For both versions, entry can be gained with a donation to the museum or the food bank. Also on October 31, businesses will be opening their doors to a “Viking Business trick or treat” experience during business hours from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Little trick or treaters will be able to find these participating businesses with a map provided to tell them and their caregivers. So everyone can get out and enjoy a trick or treat night along with a fun experience at the haunted house. In the Village of Holden, a big Halloween Family and Teenage Dance is planned for Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Holden Community Hall. The Family Dance runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Teenage Dance follows from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with a prize for the best costume and for the best group costume. The evening is hosted by Viking/Beaver FCSS and Holden Community Hall Association. There will also be a pumpkin carving/decorating contest on Oct. 28 in Holden, sponsored by The Gallery, Viking/Beaver FCSS and Friends of the Gallery. Bring you pumpkins to The Gallery in Holden at noon this coming Saturday for judging at 3 p.m.

The former New to You building (Anglican annex) will be the new venue for the Viking Historical Society’s Hallow’s Eve Haunted House.
