Providence Place wins third Eden Award Leslie Cholowsky Editor

Providence Place’s Jay Adams and Jill Stefanishion travelled to Edmonton earlier this month to attend the 2019 Eden Awards ceremony hosted by Continuous Caring. There are five awards given annually based on stories submitted by each Continuous Caring facility. This year, there were 152 stories submitted, with Providence Place submitting five in all The criteria for each category was that the story be inspirational, that it promote the Eden philosophy, that it could be considered as ‘best practise,’ and that it supports the culture of all Continuous Caring locations. Adams says this is the third year in a row that Daysland has received an Eden award. The Eden Alternative philosophy

Killam RCMP members responded to 181 calls for service between Oct. 1 and 24. Members had to physically respond to six false 911 calls. One complaint of an abandoned vehicle was found to be part of a property/civil issue in Sedgewick. Police responded to six animal calls, these concerned loose horses and cows near highways, loose dogs in Daysland, and assists with collisions with deer and moose. Members responded to four complaints of assault. In Daysland, members are investigating a complaint of assault. Charges have been laid for assault arising from a family dispute in Sedgewick. Killam members have been asked to look into a historical assault complaint forwarded from Edmonton City Police. In Hardisty, a 36-yearold male from Special Areas was arrested and charged with the assault of a 63-year-old male from Czar. Police here were asked by Kamloops RCMP to perform a next-of-kin notification. Members were asked to assist Edmonton City Police with an outstanding warrant. The individual was found, arrested, and

released by a justice awaiting an Edmonton court appearance. Members were asked for assistance from nine other provincial agencies, ranging from fire calls to probation office assists. Killam members were asked by a recently released individual to provide a ride home. Police responded to four breach of peace assists; in each, members played a mediator role. Three break and enters to rural businesses were reported from the Daysland area and are presently under investigation by police. Also, a Town of Daysland building was broken in to with some tools stolen, and sheds at the Daysland Golf Course were broken in to, also missing tools. The Lougheed Trout Pond was broken in to, but nothing was stolen. An attempted break in at a rural shop in Flagstaff County was reported, no entry was gained but police are gathering evidence at the site. A break and enter in to an abandoned residence in Galahad was reported to police. Members are following up on a complaint involving youth injuring animals. A counterfeit $100 bill was turned in to police from Forestburg, Killam members have forwarded the bill for testing. It is unknown whether the bill was in a bundle of cash.
