Danny Hooper raises $500 for local 4-H Club Jana Semeniuk Staff Reporter
Danny Hooper, whose official titles over the years have ranged from country music recording artist to award-winning media personality, is now a fundraising auctioneer. He recently raised $500 in two hours for the local 4-H club by setting out a donation jar at his cooking demonstration in front of Tofield Packers on Sept. 24. “$500! Yay!” Hooper said by text message. Hooper’s cooking demonstration included charcoal grilling both Tomahawk and Porterhouse steaks using his unique mixture of flavours and technique. The steaks were donated by Dale Erickson, owner of Tofield Packers, who sponsors Hooper’s cooking show on Youtube called ‘Danny Hooper Edibles’. “I’ve known Dale has been a fan of my country music for many years. We'd met from time to time. And I just knew his reputation out there, and Tofield packers, as being one of the best in the whole province. So, I decided to call him one day and I said, hey, I'm looking for a sponsor for Danny Hooper Edibles. And without hearing anything else, he said, ‘I'm in, tell me what you need,’” said Hooper. Hooper, 65, said he is happy these days to spend his time cooking and fundraising with his wife Barb. “I'm a fundraising auctioneer (as) my main occupation now. We started donating these long table dinners. Well, son of a gun, dinner for six people at our house was selling for anywhere between $12,000 - $15,000 for charities. Holy moly,” he said. “(A) charity makes all the money and I get to do their cooking and Barb's an amazing hostess, so we've been having a lot of fun serving that way.” A contact for the local 4-H club was unavailable for comment by press time.
