Tofield Ag Society hosts its biggest fundraiser It’s about looking into the future and providing the next generation another 50 years: Barrecloth MOUSH JOHN Editor

The Tofield Ag Society is hosting one of the biggest fundraisers in the history of its operation to raise money for the replacement of the arena floor. In partnership with the Town of Tofield, the Ag Society hopes to raise as much as possible for this vital million-dollar project, which will help keep

the multi-use facility running seamlessly for various sports, such as hockey, skating, and other activities. “This will be our most important fundraiser since the building of the facility in 1972,” said Dave Barrecloth, Tofield Ag Society President. “After 50 years the floor and pipes that complete the refrigeration for this facility are in need of replacement. Without

being able to utilize this facility for winter activities it creates a huge void; and the community and outlying areas would need to seek other alternatives for skating activities if we don’t reach our target. “There is no other option for the agricultural society and the committees and organizations that work hand-in-hand to promote and bring activities and events to the

Tofield Arena. For 50 years many families, friends as well as visitors from outside the community have enjoyed the variety of events that this facility has held – whether it was a hockey game, figure skating and carnival, 4H show and sale, graduation or a July 1st celebration it brings together all our great memories of the past! So for the Tofield Ag Society, it’s now about looking

into the future and providing the community and the next generation another 50 years.” Barrecloth wants the fundraiser to be successful and expressed his gratitude to all those who are taking part in the various fundraising initiatives. “The facility is used year round for a variety of events, whether it is hockey or figure skating or bull bash or other ac-

tivities, and much needed in the commuity,” said Mayor Deb Dueck. “All the activities hosted here bring people into the area and provide an opportunity to showcase the town of Tofield and our welcoming community. The costs for the replacement of the arena floor are significant, and so we hope community members spread the word and Continued on Page 12

Tofield U13-2 played their hearts out this past weekend in Airdrie, remaining undefeated and bringing home gold. Head Coach Bill Teefy was excited for his team, and that they could play a full season of hockey this year. “We are extremely proud of how the team performed at the tournament, they worked very hard and managed to play four competitive teams without trailing once in 240 minutes of

hockey,” Teefy said. “The timing of this tournament set the kids up perfectly for going into the playoffs. Their confidence is high and they have really bonded as a team.” On Friday, they took on Airdrie Lightning F and won 8-2. On Saturday, they played Airdrie Lightning E and won 42., and later on played Airdrie Lightning D for a 6-5 win. “The third game was the most challenging for them even though they scored three goals in Continued on Page 9
