Jackie Lovely to seek UCP nomination

Hopes to build on momentum gathered this past term serving Albertans Editor

MLA Jackie Lovely will seek UCP nomination once again hoping to continue her work and build on the “momentum” of her achievements serving Albertans. “As a fiscal conservative it is important to me that we have a balanced budget; that goal has been achieved ahead of projection through focus, sacrifice and dedication by Albertans,” Lovely said. “In addition to a balanced budget, we are also experiencing the fastest-growing economy in the country and the lowest taxes. “We ran on a comprehensive platform to bring jobs and investment back to Alberta, and almost 90 per cent of those promises have been kept. It has been my sincere pleasure to deliver on what we promised. I’d also like to see contributions toward the Heritage Savings Trust

Fund to ensure Alberta is in a solid position should we find ourselves in difficulty again in the future.” Lovely added that she has had some “good momentum with projects and initiatives” that she’d like to see through. One of the major ones

Many of my requests have been granted but for those that have not yet come to fruition, I will continue to advocate. was Motion 524, which was passed with unanimous consent in The Chamber recommending the government

take action to address the shortage of large animal rural veterinarians that Alberta is experiencing. “This issue was brought to my attention from consulting with constituents in Camrose,” she explained. “This challenge is a worldwide problem and our government responded quickly by doubling the number of seats at our Veterinary College at the University of Calgary.” The vision is that the Camrose Constituency students and those in the surrounding areas could attend Augustana for their Science degree and then transfer to the U of C for the program. “Those who have roots here are more likely to return, build a life and have a family. Mine is a multi-generational approach to support.” Lovely has been appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Associate Minister for the Status of Women, and in this role

she is working on how the government can best support elder women on aging in place, personal finances, estate planning, and life events such as the death of a spouse, divorce or health issue. “When I talk about this work, it is men who are most interested as they want to ensure their wives, mothers and grandmothers are taken care of when they are no longer able to.” She is also a member of the Premier’s Council for Charities and Civil Societies. Speaking to this she added, “We have done extensive community consultation province wide with a number of recommendations that the government is currently reviewing. The work continues to the next level and I am passionate about how the results will impact our constituency!” Lovely noted, “As a resident of Camrose, I am determined to ensure our entire riding has access to the serv-

ices they need and deserve. I have heard from several constituents that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a family doctor. “Given that we are a rural constituency it is important to me that we attract knowledgeable doctors who will take root in our community and establish their practice. Perhaps there will be an opportunity for our medical community to provide a larger slate

of surgeries in our community; I will work with our local teams to advocate for this.” Having a successful run of her first term as the MLA, Lovely said, “I have started my sixth round of door knocking. It is a priority for me to hear directly from community members. “Avian flu had been an issue but through careful management Continued on Page 8
