Tofield Skating Club hosts annual carnival, bids goodbye to long-term coach Tracey Zilkie MOUSH JOHN Editor
The Tofield Skating Club hosted their annual carnival on Saturday, March 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. after their 2020 event got cancelled just before the day of performance. Friends and families of skaters and the Club gathered together to celebrate thier season and showcase the skills they
had learnt through the season. The theme was ‘The Jungle’, within which skaters performed various drills. This was also their opportunity to say goodbye to their Coach Tracey Zilkie, who retired from coaching after nine seasons. “The past season I’ve had some health challenges, which i’m still working through so it
was a good time to step back and focus on health and family,” Zilkie said. “Looking back on my time with them i’ve had so many rewarding moments . . . I think that is the most wonderful part of coaching. You get the privilege to be a part of so many firsts – first jump, first spin, first solo, first competition. They are all unique and touching!”
