Local program Bags of Love continues to spread joy and give comfort MOUSH JOHN Editor

The program that started as ‘It’s My Very Own’ in 2009 is now known as ‘Bags of Love’, but it continues to grow and spread cheer among the many local and provincial communities it supports, in a bigger and better way. Run by three staff, it has received support from local organizations

such as Tofield’s Quilting Country and Busy B, helping it to expand beyond Tofield, Ryley, and Holden. Area Manager Jewel Lien and coordinators, Nancy Clubb and Lien’s daughter, Leslee Desjardins operate this local program to help children going into the child care system for the first time in their lives. “They receive a bag with a homemade quilt, a

teddy bear, and many other items as well as personal care items before they are placed into a foster home,” Lien said. “This is an act of respect for the displaced child to be given something they can call their very own.” Lien recalled that Fran MacGillivray of the former Snow Goose Quilting gave a headstart to the program by matching

Tofield’s Hudson Lungal to play in U13 Provincials MOUSH JOHN EDITOR

Tofield’s Hudson Lungal, who is a part of the Strathcona Warriors U13AA team will be playing in the provincials starting Thursday, March 31 at the Ardrossan Rec. Centre. The Warriors won their Division this past weekend beating Fort McMurrray Junior Oil Barons 3-2 in their final

game to secure their place in provincials. Warriors beat Barons in their first game 6-2, lost their second game 51, and then came back in the third game, 3-2 to clinch the playoff series. Lungal was happy to play his part, and will head off to the International PeeWee tournament in Quebec later on in May. He said that at this time he was focuing on the provincials,

and would be preparing for the next tournament only after. “I re-watch the game films to see where I can do better,” Lungal said. “I also try and get as much sleep and rest as possible during the hockey season to help me perform better on ice.” According to him, he still wants to improvise and work on his skating skills and strength as he Tofield’s Hudson Lungal.
