Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital houses the region’s only adult and pediatric Level I trauma centers and serves as the landing site for our Life-Guard air transport helicopters, which operate out of three bases in Virginia. Ongoing expansion at this campus includes plans for a larger ED, new patient care tower, and additional services.

Fralin Biomedical Research Institute As part of the Virginia Tech Carilion strategic partnership, the Institute offers a premier research environment for training the next generation of biomedical scientists and facilitating discovery-based medical education.
Radford University Carilion RUC is the result of a long collaboration that has now created the second-largest nursing program in Virginia, further expanding our footprint along what has become known as the Roanoke Innovation Corridor.

Our Center for Simulation, Research and Patient Safety features a trauma bay, an operating room and two patient rooms. The Sim Center also houses two anatomical manikins, computer rooms, skills lab and debrief rooms to replicate virtually any patient care situation.

Residencies and Fellowships We began training nurses almost 100 years ago and physicians more than 70 years ago. We now have more than two dozen residencies and fellowships in our graduate medical education program. We also offer a nurse residency program to help new nurses transition to professional practice, as well as Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) fellowships for physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Our education philosophy is interdisciplinary and team based, instilling a collaborative approach to care.
