SERPENTINE PAVILION Project Type: Landscape tectonic Individual academic work
Serpentine pavilion is a project that re-allocate Farnswort house to the local context of a Melbourne suburb. Detailed considerations were given on: 1. Slope manipulation 2. Water drainage 3. Materials and construction details of interface. The design emphasis the architectonic phenomenon: the roof was articulated as a stroking ribbon meandering in between the site, forming a second landscape that sometimes extrude from the existing topography while sometimes disappear. The ramp also frames out the display for the viewers from the river side. The form of the ramp was a metaphor of Chinese calligraphy.
The roof ramp was divided into 5 strokes and each stroke starts confidently and suggests a viewing platform. Then this is followed by a fast and confident stroke leading to a concrete ending without hesitation. A dry brush is always desired in representing the contrast between solid and void. Dry brushes were transformed into water channels under the ramp finish level. Construction details are influenced by the water sundeck in the New York High Line Park. Finally, the water channel, artificial ramp as well as the original earth gradings make up for three layers of archiphenomenon in this design.

SDAI PROJECT - Selected BIM Project
Selected elevator tower
SDAI project is a local design-build project. My role is to help facilitate BIM modeling, manage sheets and file structures, generate details per client/manufacture responds and attend weekly BIM Clash meeting with our consultants (Builders, Civil, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Technology, etc.). What this project brings me is a deeper understanding of the transition from SD process to CD to CA of a project, as well as lots of professional structural system, building system knowledges. What is also valuable is the ability to understand the potential aftereffects of a decision made in SD process. And architecture is a collaboration job of many teams. Here the elevator tower is selected as an example of how SD/DD that transits to CD will affect the design. BIM Clash software for design teams communication
Dynamo coding, similar to grasshopper for rhino, helps to override properties in Revit.
What features this project ‘s experiences, in addition to the architectural and structural knowledges I gained, is the understanding of how BIM project affect project management compared to traditional CAD projects. BIM clash software allows each design team upload and combine their project model to work closely together, and with the help of many add-ins that overrides properties of materials/ graphic settings, BIM seems significantly help the efficiencies of a project. While on the other hand, BIM project requires very high office standard/ control. I received a very systemized train on what to do and not do in BIM project in office and can carry on that habits in my later work. Modeling in BIM according to SD

ARCHITECTURE REAL BUILD CONSTRUCTION
POOL PAVILION Pool pavilion is a detail oriented project: downspouts are hidden in the columns so that no pipes are exposed to exterior view. Roof drains are break into braches of pipes in order to meet the sloping requirements. Window shop drawing details are carefully coordinated with the vendors. and roof is designed to flush with interior ceiling yet looks thin from perspective with a non-structural flank.

ARCHITECTURE RESEARCH
LAX APM
Individual academic work Fall 2015 Professor: Steven Christinsen
The LAX APM research project studies the visual effect that coffer creates and the relationship between labor parts and whole. This project is inspired by a case study of Louis Khan’s Yale Art Gallery. The roof in
Khan’s building is an interstitial concrete coffer system that involves heavy labor work and delicate craftsmanship. Khan intentionally hides all the mechanical systems and the real structures behind the lattice coffer to expose the beauty of concrete work.
phase 6 pour concrete remove framwork for second pour
phase 5 lay second layer of rebars
phase 4 inclined plywood framwork & rebars
phase 3 plywood stud to hold shells in place
phase 2 outer shell- metal framework
phase 1 inner shell- metal framework

construction process 1- concrete pour 2
ARCHITECTURE RESEARCH
In this case, the LAX APM projects fully engages the needs for fast movements required by the program and aims to create ‘force perspective’ through the effects that roof coffers have created. This is achieved by two ways: 1 The coffer conceals the visual lines created by the real structural beams, which guides users eyes run parallel to the diminishing lines. Mechanical systems and drainages are running behind the coffers parallel to the running direction of the beams to decrease flooring height 2. The directions of the opening of each coffer also help to adjust the amount of lights to introduce into the building.

11EAST TOWN HOUSE This is an interior renovation project that is now in construction phase. The project is a 5 story high-end customized home. Every detail is well thought as a result of the influences of designers, architects, contractors and clients’ collaboration. Hand-picked stones, metals, special finishes, tiles as well as accessories work well with interior FFE selections. Sometimes certain rooms required new furniture, we design according to the room accent and work closely together with furniture fabricator.
