WHAT AN INCREDIBLE JOURNEY It has been an incredible journey since April when COVETED first came out to the world, sharing luxury and design with our friends and with you. Its was success beyond our expectations, and it gave us all the strength and inspiration to produce an even better issue this time round. An increasingly growing challenge requires more and more of motivation. The COVETED team is now aiming higher, and is packed full of energy, and this issue is full of new discoveries we can’t wait to share with you. We’ve been travelling around the world since April to bring you a unique selection of interviews, event coverages, restaurant experiences and city guides, all first hand. We’re eager to share our real experiences, which covered all senses, as well as the new people we met, the different conversations we had and points of view we found, (all of which make COVETED a richer publication). TO PROVOKE A LITTLE CURIOSITY, HERE IS A SELECTION OF SOME OF OUR STAR ARTICLES YOU ARE BOUND TO COVET:

Huys: one of Piet Boon’s most important projects

“15 Hotel Suites”, a review of the best suites around the world, from the Paramount in New York, the Four Seasons George V in Paris, as well as the Bulgari and Ritz Hotels in London. These reviews cover the luxury experience provided by each of the hotels, combined with design choices to inspire you to create your Suite project. Read our first-class previews on the world’s next major design events - from Design Miami, to upcoming design weeks in Paris and London, as well as curated design guides made by people who live and love both cities, and are eager to share what’s new and trendy in town. We also met with Piet Boon, Amy Lau, Prosper Assouline, François Frossard and David Bouley, amongst other remarkable personalities, to bring you exclusive interviews and stories, in a bid to celebrate design with friends! This issue could make me write about it for hours. Before I leave you to embark on your journey through COVETED to discover a new world of luxury and design, I want to share a quote which has given the team the drive to start such an ambitious project from scratch in a matter of months which has brought us immense joy: “Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.” - Franklin Roosevelt

enowned worldwide for turning the seductively morbid show “Dexter” into a grim reality, Amy Lau is equally as talented at creating modern spaces that are more “curated” than “decorated”. Known for crafting original and personal surroundings that filter vayrious styles, objects, and preferences through the lens of modernism, the prominent designer believes that this process results in spaces that are refined and elegant extensions of her clients’ interests. Since 2001, Amy Lau has owned her own interiors firm, where she incorporates modernist principles, like balancing scale, texture, shape, color, and function, to create remarkable interior decorations. Specially commissioned artisan pieces, vivid colors, and exquisite midcentury furnishings are signatures of Amy Lau’s legacy as an Interior Designer. Lau, who also serves as an independent adviser to collectors of 20th century decorative arts, celebrated design with our team through this exclusive interview for COVETED Magazine.

Amy Lau- It was inspiring and exciting to work on a private residence in Chicago – the client is a dance choreographer who regularly entertains and hosts parties in their living room, which doubles as a 250-person ballroom. I imagined these lively events taking place in Van Gogh’s Starry Night come to life, with guests mingling and music floating through a scene of deep, seductive shades of blue punctuated with sparkling accents. The abstract hand knotted wool and silk rug and hand-embroidered Lauren Saunders pillows paint a celestial scene, and the Claire Falkenstein bronze sculpture floating above the sofa captures the imagination with welded copper, brass, and shimmering glass.

CE-How important is a perfect chemistry between you and your clients to achieve the best results?

CE-All artists need some inspiration to work, and interior designers are artists too. So, what or who really inspires you?

AL-It’s very important to have great chemistry with a client. When you look at the overall goal for any client, regardless of specific preferences, it is always to create a home that feels comfortable, livable, and uniquely their own. The only way I can deliver this to a client is by communicating effectively throughout the entire process, and that is facilitated with good chemistry. As a designer, it is my job to dig deep to figure out what the client really wants, and then use my resources and expertise to deliver a home that is as beautiful as it is practical for the way they like to live.

AL-Primarily, I look to nature to be inspired – I find incredible color palettes by observing the subtle change from blue to green on a bird’s wing, or the intricate detailed pattern on a butterfly. I am an avid scubadiver so I also love the unexpected color combinations in schools of fish, coral reefs, and the sandy beach towns I visit to pursue this hobby. Diverse cultures inspire me – from Japan to Turkey, Mexico to Saudi Arabia – each has a story to tell and a wealth of history, tradition, and artistic technique to explore and incorporate in my work.

CE-How would you describe your work style? 'R \RX KDYH D VSHFL¿F VLJQDWXUH WKDW PDNHV your projects easy to identify?

CE-If you had to pick one project around the world that you wish had been created by you, which would it be?

AL-: I begin each project getting to know the surroundings of the environment so I can understand the foliage, light, skylines, and other natural elements, as well as considering the clients’ lifestyles and what their visual preferences are. With this foundation, I create a unique space through this framework that is timeless and elegantly modernist by using a mix of furnishings, fabrics, lighting, and art with varying textures and complementary hues. I will often commission site-specific work where needed to create a warmth and expressiveness.

AL-The Amangiri Resort in southern Utah is pure luxury framed by, and incorporating, the harmony of the amazing surrounding geography. The indigenous-style buildings embrace natural landforms, and the local hues, materials, and textures assimilated into the design ensure the complex remains very respectful of the landscape. I would have loved to have the opportunity to work on an intelligent and visually balanced interior for this incredible architectural feat.

ROTONDE DE CARTIER ASTROTOURBILLON SKELETON 2015 has been claimed “The Year of Skeleton Watches”, with a “less is more” theme. Following this trend, several watchmakers and luxury brands are designing luxury watches less exorbitant and more mechanic. The Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon Skeleton is a specimen of superior horological ambition which was designed with the aesthetic intention of showing its heart, enhancing the amplitude of its rotation. A unique masterpiece which showcases the brilliance of the art of watchmaking.

POLTRONA FRAU ALBERO Conceived in the late 1950s as a floor-to-ceiling freestanding bookcase, “Albero” was designed for use in interior settings rather than for serial production. Frau’s reintroduction of the design is a reminder that vintage furniture doesn’t have to be overused (or used at all), kitschy or “retro.” The bookcase comes equipped with 8 - 12 adjustable “cubular” shelves and can extend to fit ceilings as high as 11-feet. It can also swivel 360 degrees, giving the tension rod set-up a bookstore browsing vibe. Albero was mentioned in The New York Times “Top 10 Moments at Milan Design Week”.

DREAMS CABINET A new cabinet arrival to the BD collection signed by Cristian Zuzunaga (Barcelona, 1978). The superficial tops, fronts and laterals of the cabinet are made of printed tempered 6mm glass and presented in three versions - colored, black/white , or white/black. A perfect sculptural focal point for the lounge area of a home, or the foyer of a hotel.

SCRIGNO The Scrigno cabinet range includes a stand-alone storage unit with doors that open out like wings, a “settimino” or seven-drawer dresser, a low storage unit, and a chest of drawers. The external surfaces are a mosaic of mirror shards manually smoothed on the edges, one by one. This stunning piece is one of the most iconic pieces by Edra as well as one of the most talked about pieces this year at Salone del Mobil 2015.

KOKET SPELLBOUND There is a sense of reveal & conceal as KOKET takes a beautiful chest form in high gloss black lacquer and adorns it in metal aged brass organic lace revealing a mesmerizing hint of what lies beneath. The interior is composed of 4 drawers embellished with organic hardware in aged brass finished to match the exterior.

WALNUT MULTILEG CABINET Jaime Hayon continues to be one of the most celebrated Spanish designers on the international stage. Now BD presents a wooden version, in a varnished or nature walnut veneer finish, with the same virtues as the first: modular, multipurpose and multileg.

CAPELLINI FRAC Frac is a chair that thanks to its soft and sinuous structure envelops whoever sits in it like a tailored suit, from which it takes its name. Produced in plastic using a rotational technique it is ideal for outdoor use, but it fits well in domestic or public places as well due to its wide palette of available colors: cloud, magnolia, marsala, green, powder, mud.

SHOWTIME POLTRONA A collection in which plastics consort with upholstery, the gleam of lacquered wood, and the tradition of fine ceramics. In these contrasts between classicism and modernity, Showtime reflects what has always been the very essence of BD.

GARDENIAS ARMCHAIR WITH PERGOLA The Gardenias Collection is BD’s second collection and has thrived on the same virtues as their first. It has quality, personality, elegance, the right point of romanticism, and lots of versatility, perfect for the home as well as public spaces. The collection is divided into outdoor pieces, with the purpose of recuperating classic elegant furniture for the garden with contemporary style, and the indoor collection, that includes an armchair and a sofa with sophisticated imagery - now presented with new finishes and upholstery.

CLARK XL

LUXXU SCALA CHANDELIER Modern luxury lighting at its very best, this crystal chandelier is masterfully crafted from gold brass and accented with cool conic shaped detailing.

With expressive harmonic beauty, the Clark exudes the “speakeasy” vibe. Constructed of brass tubing using the classic method of bending the brass twice into a rounded oblong shape allows for bright and loud casts of light. Its structure is made in brass, covered by a golden bath just like a real trumpet. Let yourself be part of the Clark ceiling fixture, dare to change the way you see musically inspired lighting.

VITRA MARIPOSA SOFA VERMELHA This chair designed by Campana Brothers will take everyone by surprise. While it looks like a mass of string it’s actually a steel structure with hand-woven and dyed cotton rope. This piece incorporates many aspects of weaving: intertwined threads form the ropes, which are then hand-woven into upholstery. Five hundred meters of red cotton ropes are used to create these random looking loops, but, in reality, there is a structured method in the rather chaotic padding.

The Mariposa owes its extraordinary comfort, on one hand, to the pleasantly soft upholstery which completely surrounds the sitter and prevents contact with any hard structural elements. On the other hand, to an ingenious adjustment mechanism that makes it possible to individually tilt the side and backrest elements for various sitting or reclining positions. With these special features, the Mariposa Sofa offers an inviting place to prop up your feet and relax.

BRABBU SHERWOOD COFFEE TABLE From the legend of Robin Hood arises SHERWOOD, a wood coffee table that steals the name of the royal forest, where it is believed the good thief lived. The chic walnut root table top and the elegant structure of SHERWOOD make it ideal for a mid century modern decor. SHERWOOD does not hide its origins; instead they are embraced and shared. This rectangular coffee table will be the attention catcher in your living room setting.

LAPIAZ The French word Lapiaz is the name given to the typical karst formations produced by surface dissolution of limestone or dolomite rocks. It can also be caused by freezing and thawing in cold climates. This is how the Lapiaz luxury coffee table emerged. Imagine a stone frozen and freshly cracked to show the entire world a rich, golden interior. The polished brass details and mirrored sides attribute this luxury design artwork an arctic yet comfy and warm beauty. Definitely a statement piece for the most luxurious interior designs.

MAISON VALENTINA SYMPHONY DRESSING TABLE With a vision to understand the past and interpret it through cutting-edge technology and contemporary design, this unique dressing table is passionately inspired by music. Handcrafted with the finest materials, this breathtaking piece is genuine in style, ensuring mystery and elegance. The golden color gives a luxury touch to every bathroom.

GLAS ITALIA SHIMMER Patricia Urquiola’s poetically contemporary “Shimmer” table is brilliant in both its concept and physicality. Made from iridescent glass with a multicolored finish, the small tripodal table reacts with light, which allows its surface to seemingly change hue depending on your vantage point. The graceful shifts in color lend it a balletic energy, and the lack of construction materials (the parts are joined with glue) keeps the focus on its prismatic effects. Just one of the striking ranges of glass projects Glas Italia showed at Salone del Mobile this year.

Kenneth Cobonpue in her new Showroom in New York

CovetED is thrilled to announce the opening of the United States largest display of the famous designer Kenneth Cobonpue’s self-named furniture collection, and lighting and accessories brand, Hive. Located on the 4th floor of the New York Design Center at 200 Lexington, the new showroom will permanently house their newest collections, beautiful artwork, furniture, and a selection of iconic classics. With a worldwide reputation for providing imaginative solutions to any design challenge the renowned New York Design Center is an ideal choice for Cobonpue’s new showroom. 200 Lex is home to more than 100 showrooms representing upwards of 500 lines of fine residential and contract furniture, textiles, wall and floor covering, lighting, kitchen and bath, and accessories. The New York Design Center has been committed to transforming and enhancing both living and working environments for more than 85 years standing as the oldest furniture and design building in the country. Kenneth Cobonpue is an exceptional designer known for his distinct designs which

blend natural materials and innovative handmade construction processes. Originally from the Philippines he began his design journey studying Industrial Design in New York, from there he traveled to Italy and Germany where he worked and continued to perfect his craft. Cobonpue has won several awards for his furniture designs, was noted by Time Magazine as “Rattan’s first virtuoso”, and boasts an extensive A-list client roster that includes Hollywood celebrities such as Brad Pitt and royal figures. Each year the designer reveals new work at design shows from Paris to New York, and recently he was named the “Designer of the Year” at the first edition of Maison et Objet Asia held in Singapore in March 2014. Profoundly inspired by the tradition of craftsmanship that has been passed down from generation to generation, Cobonpue set out to create a furniture brand that makes great use of these expert hands to produce modern and bold designs. Using a variety of materials suitable for interior and exterior use, the common factor in all of the pieces is the production process, which remains primarily handmade.

Kenneth Cobonpue’s lighting became part of Hive and was set up as an associated company to Kenneth Cobonpue with separate design and production facilities. This complementary partnership allows Hive to seamlessly merge exquisite design and cutting-edge manufacturing. Today Hive is a collective of designers and artisans who continue to produce exceptional lighting and home accessory collections, adding value to every space they inhabit. Hive has created a niche for itself by highlighting natural forms and materials integrated with innovative methods of handmade production. The conservation of traditional hand-working techniques allows Hive to perpetuate an element of culture for generations to come. Kenneth Cobonpue considers the opening of the new showroom in New York to be a step toward reaching an important market, but it also seems to be a special moment for him, as he attended design school at New York based Pratt Institute. Cobonpue sincerely admits that for quite some time designers have been asking for a place where they can bring clients to see and touch the products, and to understand and appreciate the innovative techniques and workmanship that go into each piece. In his point of view, it is wonderful to finally have this kind of a presence in New York City. The new Kenneth Cobonpue flagship showroom is an excellent source for beautiful and organic design and decoration for both the indoors and out. The ultra talented Cobonpue’s finest design products will be showcased along with a growing collection of designs purely made by hand and with sustainable materials. The space will provide a welcoming, versatile, and energetic atmosphere that will inspire and educate the vibrant New York market.

Kenneth Cobonpue Showroom in New York

Creating with natural fibers and materials, Cobonpue’s use of organic locally found materials combined with progressive handmade fabrication techniques, results in a collection that has amassed him both international recognition and a dedicated following. Kenneth Cobonpue is devoted to sustaining the heritage of craft while also incorporating the new in both his furniture collection and Hie. He believes that customers will not only be able to relate to the scale of his designs, but also to realize the extraordinary workmanship that went into each piece. Hive, Cobonpue’s lighting and home accessories design house, was founded in 2001 when a group of friends, inspired by Giulio Cappellini and his concept of the design house, pursued a vision to create lighting and accessories. After some time Hive developed into a design and manufacturing facility where various artists can make objects for production under one roof. Under the art direction of Kenneth Cobonpue and management of Celso Advincula Jr., Hive promotes an environment of creative freedom.

MOOOI NEW YORK SHOWROOM AND BRAND STORE

MOOOI Showroom

Moooi New York opened its doors last May during NY Design Week. Having crossed the ocean, Moooi has landed in New York to introduce a ‘brand’ new world of design opportunities in Manhattan’s Nomad area. The newly branded NoMad District is situated at the heart of Manhattan, fashionably located between 26th and 30th Streets, and Park Avenue and Broadway. Known for its fine architecture and central location next to the iconic Chrysler and Empire State Buildings, since the outset of the 21st Century the NoMad neighborhood has been on the rise with the transformation and revival of this long-ignored stretch of NYC. The streets of this neighborhood are steeped in history and lined with luxurious hotels, upscale businesses, trendy restaurants, and exciting nightlife. Formerly known as “Tin Pan Alley”, NoMad is the current hub of New York’s creative industries and buzzes with a unique energy day and night. New York is the capital of the US and Manhattan is the place to be for an upscale design brand. According to Marcel Wanders, the Art Director of Moooi, the company has grown beyond a mere furniture or lighting brand. It offers high end luxury products within a lifestyle concept that is truly inspiring. What is more, he admits that this generation is

no longer happy with expensive luxury products without meaning. It is looking for the ‘real’ thing: a beautiful design that is also interesting, creative, exciting, fun, provocative, challenging. A clear testimony to Moooi’s active role in the cultural world is the enduring collaboration that Moooi initiated with artist Rahi Rezvani. A selection of his photography was first exposed at Moooi’s new collection presentation in Milan last April and now on the walls of the New York store, embracing its interior with a powerful stream of human depth, energy and emotion. Casper Vissers, Moooi’s cofounder, together with Marcel Wanders, claims that right now the time has come to invest in the brand’s image and immense potential by showing the US public that Moooi is not only about ground-breaking lighting products, but also about exceptional furniture, a brand new Moooi Carpets collection, and a whole lifestyle experience based on the belief that design is a question of love. “Moooi is an urban brand designing for a new world, delivering the coolest things together with a sense of surprise and expectation”, clarifies Moooi’s Art Director Marcel Wanders and he adds: “It fits perfectly with the city’s vibe and has achieved a great following, even before the opening of Moooi New York”.

The showroom and brand store is also going to be a focal point for architects, designers and design lovers, in order to gather ideas during their daily quest for beauty and inspiration. Wanders looks forward to all the amazing projects to come as he is strongly convinced that only together can we create pure magic. The interior of the Moooi showroom is defined by a characteristic raw concrete structure and flooring, which englobes an eclectic mix of designs and acts as a creative platform to showcase products, designers, and lifestyle ideas for inspirational homes. “Its eclectic atmosphere, connected to the cultural world, and its interesting designs will certainly inspire all sorts of people and bring an addition to the design world of Manhattan”, points out Casper Vissers who elaborates: “Behind every product exposed is a great story and that will be translated to the public by specifically trained personnel”. Next to the entrance door, the shop window reveals an inspirational home environment that will certainly engage onlookers with interesting interior ideas. Just inside, to the left of the entrance wall, Moooi spells its name in the universal Braille language with the use of Round Prop. While in the first part of the store poetic haikus reveal in an instant how Moooi’s different products can be combined to complement each other; in the central area several inspirational settings showcase different solutions to improve the interior design

of homes, offices, and public spaces. At the back of Moooi’s showroom and brand store a skylight brings daylight to its deepest section, highlighting the skillful interiors by showing off their colors and beauty. A multifunctional room and an upstairs office space of approx. 538 Sq. Ft. complete the picture. Furthermore, a number of fascinating carpets of different shapes and sizes are on display, intensifying the product haikus and completing the settings with their innovative designs and vibrant colors. They belong to the new collection of Moooi Carpets, a brand new company that offers a wide range of carpet designs and countless custom possibilities for the perfect match to any interior style. The new showroom and brand store is the pilot project for Moooi USA. Casper Vissers assures that soon enough there will be at least one more Moooi store on the West coast. The CEO of Moooi explains with due anticipation that California would be the next logical geographical choice. For the moment the Moooi team is looking forward to establishing its unexpected welcome in New York and sharing unique design products and its love for life, fun, culture, stories, and new experiences. Visit the Moooi Showroom and Brand Store in New York and you will be welcomed in by Moooi’s learning and sharing platform where beauty, information, curiosity, and fun converge to connect to the contemporary culture and people.

PIET BOON

Huys: one of Piet Boon’s most important projects

hen asked what a designer needs to be successful in New York City, where competition can be a little wild, he had a simple yet strong answer: “I think you need to think outside the box and when you come to New York, or anywhere in the US for that matter, do not let your designs be led by building codes or restrictions”. Responsible for creating a unique and contemporary architecture and interior design style, the award-winning designer Piet Boon is renowned worldwide for his exceptional craftsmanship, quality, and vision as well. Boon, a creator of masterpieces, began his career as a building contractor – which clearly brings an advantageous insight to the design and accomplishment of every project signed by him. From the Netherlands, his status as a successful architect in NYC is on the rise. After reading this exclusive interview, everyone will most likely come to the same conclusion: the final result of each remarkable work created by Piet Boon is indeed a perfect match between functionality and timeless design.

Piet Boon- I started my career in construction, realizing the designs of others and I was often frustrated with what designers came up with. Too many times I found myself realizing beautiful designs that although they were beautifully designed they just didn’t work, or the other way around. Call me stubborn, but I didn’t agree and believed that I could do a better job in finding the perfect balance between functionality, aesthetics, and individuality. I knew that if I wanted to realize this vision, I had to take full ownership of a design concept. And that’s how Studio Piet Boon came to life over thirty years ago. PB-Because we are fortunate to work with different types of clients all over the world, all of our projects are unique in their own way and so it would be impossible to pick one specific project as a favorite. Having that said there are also many stories to tell, like our first big project in New York for instance: a real adventure, a 700m2 apartment, an entire floor on Fifth Avenue. The client was (and still is) a very successful entrepreneur. We had very limited time to get the job done in order not to disturb the owners too much. This meant that at a certain point we had over 100 people working around the clock to realize the project in time. Can you image what that looked like? It still makes me laugh when I think of it. CE-  The  results  around  your  projects  are  remark- able.  Possibly,  they  are  result  of  a  perfect  chem- istry  between  you  and  your  clients.  So,  when  the  chemistry  really  works,  it  is  possible  to  predict  what  happens  next?

Many of Huys’s apartments also have marvelous box windows, which act like over-sized bay windows.

PB-First of all, thank you! I think this kind of chemistry can be attributed to our motivation to truly understand the needs of our clients and embrace their values and way of life. The most important thing in achieving this understanding is being able to really listen. Over the years we have developed a strong set of antenna’s that help us gain insights that allow us to shape the individual identity of each project which is crucial for the creation of a unique, customized sense of space – be it a home, a hotel, an office, etc. Does that mean that we are able to predict what happens next? No. And that’s why I feel I have the best job in the world!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW PAGE 34.

CE-How would you describe your style? Do you have any kind of “signature” able to identify your projects?

CE-All artists need some inspiration to do well their work and architects are artists too. So, what really inspires you?

PB-Our signature is clearly recognized by the use of strong (sight) lines, a subdued color palette together with rich and natural materials that age beautifully, symmetry and optimal use of space, the use of natural light, and attention to extraordinary detailing. The perfect synergy between the different divisions within our studio creates the harmony between exterior, interior, and styling our projects are internationally known for.

PB-More or less, everything actually, as I strongly believe that inspiration is everywhere. I draw my inspiration from my talented team, travels, the people I meet, the food I eat, the things I see, the different cultures I’m fortunate enough to encounter, and even the work of others. I find it fascinating to see the creative and clever solutions they come up with.

CE-What does a designer need to be successful in New York City, where competition could be a little wild?

PB-: : I think you need to think outside the box and when you come to New York, or anywhere in the US for that matter, do not let your designs be led by building codes or restrictions. That’s one of the reasons I think people like our work so much, we aren’t too familiar with codes and/or restrictions and because of that our designs automatically push boundaries and exceed expectations. Together with the builder we find ways to make our ideas work, making the impossible possible.

CE-Maybe “Huys” be one of the most important work made by you and your team. Did you feel a real need to embed yourself in the New York’s FXOWXUH WR ¿QG WKH ULJKW GHVLJQ IRU WKLV SURMHFW"

PB-Huys was definitely a milestone when it comes to our work in New York, since Huys we were able to add two other major residential development projects to our portfolio: Oosten in Williamsburg and 101 WALL on Wall Street. For Huys, like with every other project, we studied amongst others the local vernacular, history, and the way people lived in it. By doing so we were able to really integrate our design. New York of course is such a great city. Its rich (Dutch) history and cultural influences make it the energetic city that it is.

Entrance hall of the exclusive and luxurious Huys.

CE: Was there anything about New York City that made you approach this project differently than others?

PB-Every project is different because of many different factors that we have to take into account, though the approach is in principal always the same. CE-If you had to pick one famous building around the world that you wish it had been created by you, which would it be? Why?

PB-There are two notoriously famous buildings across from the famous Rijks museum in Amsterdam. These office buildings, also known as the salt and pepper buildings, I believe should have mirrored the magnificence of the Rijks. Now you have these two out of architectural character buildings dating from the 70’s instead. If we were given the chance to design those buildings back then, I would have thought of something different. I know we would have come up with something that would look spectacular, blend well with the local architecture, and add to the beauty of the Rijks museum. CE-Where else, besides New York, can we expect to see your work soon?

PB-At the moment there are a lot of projects in full swing all over the world. For example, in Antigua we are currently working on developing a high-end eco-friendly retreat. Our studio is responsible for the aesthetic design of Antigua’s best-kept secret: Pearns Point - a verdant 141-acre peninsula with seven pristine white-sand beaches and spectacular views across the Caribbean Sea. Pearns Point will be home to 68 luxury private beach and hillside residences, and a five-star hotel with state-of-the-art facilities. We are also working on a big residential project in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Willowsford Virgina (US) and another one in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia. Next to the residential, hospitality, and corporate developments we are also humbled to be trusted with the design of various private homes.

From an adorable young ballet student, to a 15 year old Elle Magazine cover model - and the most desirable actress of her time - the cameras loved Brigitte immediately and they’ve never forgotten her (just like all the men that met her in person). But besides all this beauty and grace, this woman’s love for animals and her lifetime struggle to make their rights stand, are two additional reasons for the world to love her. Too Many Romances and an Interrupted Career. Her first acting role was with ‘Le Trou Normand’ at the age of 18. In this precise moment, the world fell in love with her talent, and most of all, the world fell in love with her angelic beauty. After two more fictional lives, a real life happy moment: her wedding with the screenwriter and filmmaker Roger Vadim, in 1952. Five years later, they separated. But the show must go on, so Brigitte never gave up on happiness.

Her first American film ‘Un Acte d’Amour’, established her “sex-kitten” image. After this, all the French films had to be dubbed into English, to satisfy the American desire to see her on screen. From 1952 to 1956, Brigitte appeared in seventeen films. ‘And God Created Woman’ was her biggest success and still the moto for her beauty. Some may say that Brigitte Bardot’s romantic life was as intense as her career, once she had 100 lovers – including the actress’ four husbands. Few men (and even women) could resist her feline eyes and unique smile. But in 1973, after 47 films, diverse musical shows, over 60 songs, several nervous breakdowns, and too many passions, Bardot decided to bring her acting career to an end. La Madrague, her house in Saint Tropez, was where the French actress and animal activist decided to retire to with her son, her husband Bernard d’Ormale, and their beloved animals. And she still resides there today.

FROM A BELOVED WOMAN TO AN ANIMAL LOVER As you can easily see, all the fame and fortune (and even the several unhappy moments of her life) haven’t transformed Bardot into an insensitive person. She established the ‘Foundation for the Protection of Distressed Animals’ in the mid-1970s and the ‘Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals’ in the mid-1980s. And she still has hundreds of animals in her house in Saint Tropez. We’ve got it all figured out for now: it’s possible to be a vegetarian animal defender, and still be a style icon and a beauty inspiration. Brigitte Bardot is the living proof of it.

DESIGN INPIRATIONS As an iconic diva and a true inspiration, this angelic but undeniably sexy woman has inspired so many with her work and eminent style. The CovetED team searched for the best designs that could have been inspired by this sexy angel. What you will see is a selection of interior design pieces that we found similar to Bardot’s style. Be inspired!

Once upon a time… the Dutch Philosopher Erasmus said: “your library is your paradise”. And this is the primordial essence of the newest Assouline Group’s enterprise, a project that looks to turn libraries into truly private paradises. First, they created remarkable books that are almost pieces of art themselves. Now, they have launched Assouline Interiors, an ode to luxury style and culture. Designed by Prosper and Martine Assouline, from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, every nuance of this collection reflects Assouline’s signature style through custom furniture, lighting, carpeting, and beautifully framed prints. CovetED Magazine invites you to discover the world of Assouline Interiors, a world in which stylish modern furnishings, and worldly objects and artwork are surrounded by sophisticated books.

The Assoulines, Martine and Prosper Assouline

CovetED  Magazine:  Before  we  start  talking  about  the  new  Assouline  Group’s  project,  focused  on  the  interior  design  market,  let’s  talk  a  little  bit  about  how  it  all  began:  with  the  books.  So  how  did  you  get  into  book  publishing?

Prosper Assouline: All of the books we publish and design, we make them as luxurious and exclusive as possible. And because we design all the books, they have the same style. Indeed, we believe that this is a market niche and we just happened to get the opportunity and turned it to reality. At the beginning, our idea wasn’t to make a business out of publishing. I just wanted to make only one book about my favorite hotel in the world, La Colombe D’Or. I took the pictures and my wife and partner Martine wrote the text. This first book got good feedback from the press and market, so we decided to make one or two per year. Now we produce 50 books each year, and it’s our main business. CE:  Recently,  Assouline  introduced  its  luxurious  QHZ OLEUDU\ DQG RIÂżFH IXUQLVKLQJV FROOHFWLRQ IRU interior  design.  Tell  us  all  about  this  new  project.  How  did  this  idea  start  and  what  can  we  expect  from  this  project? Â

PA: Over two decades, we have extended our vision to create all that can be desired in a chic library, from our beautiful books and special editions, to unique accessories and objects of art, and now a complete turnkey collection of handsome furniture bearing our signature style. This new project from Assouline’s Group began because we really believe that beauty can transform lives, and that a book artfully crafted and highly considered in its visual content can open eyes and minds. After all, the Assouline lifestyle furnishings collection is the embodiment of the French expression savoir vivre, or knowing how to live richly. CE:  Where  does  the  inspiration  come  from  to  create  all  of  the  amazing  Assouline  furniture? Â

PA: I believe that the inspiration comes from the signature style of the brand that juxtaposes classical elements with Art Deco nuances and modern influences. The Assouline Interiors Collection is the ultimate enrichment for any home, a complete collection of furniture and accessories. And I’m pretty sure that after being fueled with passion for books, it seems self-evident to create exclusive and luxurious furniture for libraries. That is our understanding of beauty and well-being. CE:  If  you  had  to  choose  only  one  piece  from  the  Assouline  Interiors  Collection,  what  piece  would  it  be  and  why?

PA: If I had to pick just one piece among many that I love in this first collection, I have no doubt it would be the “Writing Desk, from the High Society Collection. Because I like to know I have a desk that allows me to be inside my work, almost as if to enter into it.This is a perfect piece to have in a library, in an apartment, and even in an office. I like this piece a lot.

CE:  There  are  already  showrooms  in  some  of  the  most  important  cities  in  the  world.  What  are  the  next  steps  for  Assouline  Interiors?

PA: Indeed we already have an exclusive showroom for this collection in New York, a 700-square-foot furniture showroom and a 265-square-foot bookshop. In addition, we have Maison Assouline, a beautifully restored landmark building with a stately presence in the St. James’s neighborhood of London. We are in Paris as well, at the exclusive Le Bon MarchĂŠ department store. The next move for us will be to expand our horizons and expose our exclusive furniture at Maison & Objet in September this year. CE:  Last  but  not  least,  as  we  know,  you  have  a  strong  and  remarkable  partnership  with  Martine  Assouline  on  both  professional  and  personal  levels.  Could  you  conceive  running  Assouline  Interiors  without  her? Â

PA: No, absolutely not. Sometimes I feel like I repeat myself about this subject, but its ok, because this is something very important to say and it never will be too much to say this: if she were not here, I wouldn’t do this. Without her, the company wouldn’t work. I can’t do anything without her and, more importantly, I don’t want to.

Living Room Decorating with Didot Font Inspiraton

Didot Font detail

THE DIDOT INSPIRATION Sometimes, inspiration can come from the most unusual places, even from an old book forgotten in some corner of the library. No, we’re not talking about the content itself published in the books, but the typography used to immortalize its stories. Following this thought, the Assouline Interiors first collection was born. This can be seen in some of the pieces which have the typography created by Firmin Didot, in the early 1780s, on them. About the Didot Font, Yves Perrousseaux* said: “the visual impression of the typography expresses a kind of lightness, simplicity, and solidity which is very particular to it. This is due to the excellence of the ratio between the thick and thin strokes, the exact verticality of the stems, the exact horizontal extensions given to the serifs.” As the font created by Didot, the pieces designed by Prosper and Martine Assouline have a perfect balance between lightness, simplicity, and solidity. The final result? Just marvelous!

This is the hardest-to-score reservation in London right now and the pinnacle, the holy of holies, the city’s most anticipated restaurant that results from a collaboration between New York restaurant supremo Keith McNally and his London friend, Richard Caring. This restaurant offers every type of meal from breakfast and dinner to weekend brunch. The menu includes a wide selection of French brasserie and bistro; they combine the best ingredients with the most traditional ways of cooking in order to produce great food. CORNER ROOM A simple space on the first floor of the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, the Corner Room gives little away, but look a little closer and it becomes apparent that someone has a sense of humor: a spiral staircase leading nowhere; lamps hung at spectacularly varying heights; no external telephone. The place is unassuming. The menu is the same. Three ingredients are listed for each dish, with no indication as to how they’re to be prepared or served. Portuguese chef, Nuno Mendes – who trained at El Bulli – is best known for working his magic at Michelin-starred Viajante downstairs, so as you settle into your seats at Corner Room you will certainly be in for a treat. THE DORCHESTER Guests entering The Dorchester are greeted with the stunning vista of The Promenade, which stretches the same length as the London landmark, Nelson’s Column. Refurbished in 2005 by Thierry Despont, The Promenade is a series of rich, warm, intimate spaces culminating in a stunning, oval leather bar at the end of the room. Very much the heart of the hotel, The Promenade is open all day for informal dining serving breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and a supper menu. PARIS  DESIGN  WEEK  &  MAISON  &  OBJET Paris Design Week is renowned for exceptional designs by brands from around the world showing their latest and most innovative products. We love this show! Paris’s most creative week in September will enliven design showrooms, brands, concept stores, museums, galleries, boutiques, hotels, and restaurants around the city of light. COVETED Magazine got the chance to talk with Franck Millot , Commercial Director of Maison & Objet Paris and Paris Design Week, about this year’s edition of the design event. COVETED  -  This  event  is  a  great  opportunity  to  share  and  exhibit  new  talents.  Could  you  tell  us  how  Paris  Design  Week  started? Franck  Millot: Organizers of the MAISON&OBJET fair, strictly for professionals, we wanted to propose a unifying event, accessible to all, which gives all design enthusiasts the possibility to enjoy the excitement that the show generates for one week. Its first edition took place in 2011, as you remember. It was also an opportunity for us to meet emerging design talents: young designers, new brands, those that move the world of design and make it better. CE  -  The  event  takes  place  at    Cite  de  la  mode  et  du  design    in  Paris,  the  building  is  located  on  the  site  of  the  old  general  store    Quai  d’Austerlitz  ª DQG ZDV EXLOW E\ WKH DUFKLWHFWXUH ÂżUP -DNRE 0DFIDUODQH :HUH Š 7KH Docks  of  cite  de  la  mode  et  du  design    chosen  as  the  main  venue  of  the  event  for  a  particular  reason? FM - Firstly because it is the City of Fashion and Design. It is the calling of the place, to give Parisians a place to gather around and discuss design, to make the general public aware of it. But we were also captured by the place itself, which was the subject of a daring architectural approach, which is still quite rare in the heart of Paris. It therefore has a certain symbolic dimension which we thought was important. And then finally, because we needed a place large enough to accommodate more than 80 participants and the first floor of the building seemed to lend itself perfectly to the projects we had. It  therefore  has  a  certain  symbolic  dimension  which  we  thought  was  LPSRUWDQW $QG WKHQ ÂżQDOO\ EHFDXVH ZH QHHGHG D SODFH ODUJH HQRXJK WR DFFRPPRGDWH PRUH WKDQ SDUWLFLSDQWV DQG WKH ÂżUVW Ă€RRU RI WKH building  seemed  to  lend  itself  perfectly  to  the  projects  we  had. FM - New this year, we decided to organize ÂŤ Talksâ€? on various topics related to current issues of design. Our desire was to densify the world of PARIS DESIGN WEEK a little and make it more didactic. We obviously have a vested interest in educating the general public about design and to raise its stakes in its current questions. Four panel discussions will therefore be held at the Docks - City of Fashion and Design, culinary design, the relationship between form and new uses, the design of participation to enhance the luxury brands of the world and the emergence of new production patterns in the world of design. All these themes were chosen with input from Chantal Hamaide, editor of Intramuros French design magazine. She will also lead the discussions, which will involve well-known figures from the world of design: Alberto Alessi, Jay Osgerby, Edward Barber, Patrick Jouin or Matali Crasset CE  -  There  is  also    Le  Parcours  SpĂŠcial  Projets  â€œ,  on  the  subject  of  professional  Interior  Architecture. Could  you  tell  us  more  about  it  please? FM - Our sales team is constantly in discussions with brands that design both for Maison & Objet, and also for PARIS DESIGN WEEK. But for ÂŤ now! le off Âť, we launch an annual call for international projects, to capture the attention of young talents worldwide, relayed on our networks and those of our partners. Among all the projects for which we receive an application, we naturally proceed to a selection, retaining only the most interesting and the most successful. For young talents who submit us their application, it is a platform that allows them to gain visibility, to make themselves known, to show their work, to socialize and to build a network. All with a much more affordable investment to participate in a salon. Last year, over 17,000 visitors visited ÂŤ Now! le off Âť. Moreover, it is not uncommon that we find, after some years, some designers that were exposed in ÂŤ Now! le off Âť, in the living room at Maison & Objet. We also introduce the students that work in a large Korean university: Yeungnam University. We also present at ÂŤ City of Fashion and Design Âť the work of young talents from Indonesia, Singapore . This 2015 edition will be marked by a strong Asian presence. Its members are chosen by RADO and Maison & Objet in collaboration. We are targeting influential people in design, with an eye and extensive design culture, but also with a keen interest in young designers. It is important that all the jurors be motivated by curiosity and taste to find new talent.

MOSTCOVETEDSPOTS CE  -  The  Swiss  watch  brand,  Rado  joins  the  Paris  Design  Week  for  the  3rd  time  to  give  the  RADO  STAR  PRIZE,  a  contest  involving  all  New  Design  Talents  exhibitions  and  Now!  le  off.  Could  you  explain  us  what  this  competition  is  about? FM - For three years now, we have worked with RADO for the RADO STAR PRIZE; we give two awards, the Jury Prize and the Audience Award. The principle is simple, amongst the projects selected to participate in the exhibition ÂŤ Now! le off Âť in, the Docks - City of Fashion and Design, we choose ten projects that meet a particular criteria established by the jury, that stand out for their creativity and innovation. This year, the jury met in late June to decide which of them would be awarded the Jury Prize. It was then that they finally decided to appoint two winners tie, the Dancers projects by AurĂŠlie Hoegy and the Project S by Julien Levasseur. The projects that were not awarded a prize by the jury then compete for the Audience Award, through a vote on the www.radostarprize.fr site. Voting will be open until September 9th. The project with the most votes will receive the Audience Award. Both awards will be formally presented to the winners at the official evening ÂŤ Now! le off Âť the next day, Thursday, September 10. FM - PARIS DESIGN WEEK is only a medium, our role is to highlight and publicize the talent and work of designers, publishers, industrialists. We exist only through the sum of the energies that are mobilizing in September. Ours objectives are multiple: to help bring out new talent, provide a launch platform for new collections, to publicize new creative places in Paris. Being closely connected to Maison & Objet, we also aim to promote the creative image of Paris in the competition that will be delivered to major cities. To attract the attention of professionals and the media are about 3,000 companies and designers in Paris at the show and in the city at the beginning of September. CE  -  Thank  you  very  much  for  accepting  this  interview.  Lastly,  we  would  like  to  know  your  advice  for  designers  /  future  designers.  Could  you  give  a  tip  to  this  young  generation  of  designers? FM - A tip that many already apply: in a globalized and interconnected world, think big! The markets, collaborations are possible almost anywhere in the world. It has never been easier to communicate and make yourselves known throughout the world: social networks, internet, etc. and events like PARIS DESIGN WEEK are there to show your talent.

+27(/6 etED’s most anticipated events during Paris Design Week, but the 7 days are full of events so be sure to check out as many as possible! GRAND HOTEL DU PALAIS ROYAL A sumptuous establishment at the very heart of Paris, this hotel was the location where Louis XVI learned to ride. For those who want to meet the city of lights with its union between past and present, customary elegance, and contemporary hospitality, this is the place you must visit. The hotel, completely renovated, offers in many places delightful views of Paris, and is the quintessence of Parisian chic.

LE CINQ CODET Le Cinq Codet begins with a 1930s office block, something of an early modernist monument, and the contemporary renovation stays faithful to the period. The result, thanks to the work of star designer JeanPhilippe Nuel, is something that’s as stylish as any Parisian boutique, and very nearly as luxurious as any of Paris’s famous grand palace hotels. This luxury hotel offers exceptional service in their restaurant along with a sunny indoor bar and an outdoor terrace for enjoying your favorite drink. At Le Cinq Codet you will find first-class stylish service and atmosphere!

LE SAINT-JAMES This unusual hotel is the only chateau-hotel of the capital, as well as the home of the very private Saint James Club. Built in 1892 this amazing hotel was redesigned by the dream-maker Bambi Sloan who added her touch of extravaganza, creating the perfect atmosphere to dream of being part of royalty. LA MAISON CHAMPS ĂˆLYSĂˆES In the heart of the Parisian Golden Triangle, La Maison Champs ÉlysĂŠes is a mix between comfort and French elegance where reality blends with surreal style. Here, dramatic illusions and ironic interiors seduce guests to return. Although it is strolling distance from the luxury and fashion epicenter Avenue Montaigne, Champs-

ÉlysÊes, and many more of Paris’ iconic landmarks, the entrance to the townhouse at No. 8 Rue Jean Goujon is discreet, an address you must know to discover.

PUBLICIS DRUGSTORE With its laid-back brasserie setting, the Publicis Drugstore has become the ideal trendy Parisian meeting place. The refined and naturally lit dining room with its huge central bar with Corian inlays and its large bay window allows you to watch the chic nonchalance of the passers-by on the Champs-ElysÊes in the 8th district. The seasonal menu is created by Olivier Dupart who skillfully brings a new touch to the great standard and vintage dishes to this design restaurant. KONG Ultramodern, on the top two floors of Kenzo’s main office, in front of the Pont Neuf of the 1st district, the design restaurant Kong resides up in the sky with a view of the Seine. The decor is signed Philippe Starck,

HOTEL SEZZ PARIS Mixing Art Nouveau with contemporary, the Sezz boutique hotel in Paris is an haute-design mecca that places extraordinary emphasis on service, shaking up the luxe Right Bank Passy neighborhood in the process. With a sweeping view of the Eiffel tower from its hillside location across the Seine, each guest receives a personal assistant to take care of them during their stay.

5(67$85$176 MAISON BLANCHE Situated above the ThÊâtre des Champs ElysÊes, on the prestigious avenue Montaigne in the 8th district, the Maison Blanche restaurant offers a fabulous view over the west area of Paris from its 2 terraces. In a setting designed by Imaad Rahmouni, with simple lines and sleek design, restaurant Maison Blanche expresses upscale food, largely inspired by the Languedoc terroir. In its modern and pure decor, the chef, HervÊ Nepple, creates a highly ambitious and inventive cuisine in collaboration with Jacques and Laurent Pourcel, multi-starred chefs at Jardin des Sens in Montpellier.

the menu Fumiko Kono. Halfway between Paris and Tokyo, you’ll be surrounded by Louis XV armchairs, plasma screens, a fluorescent staircase, and a carpet of pebbles. Kong is very Parisian, luxurious, and accessible all at the same time. CIEL DE PARIS The Montparnasse Tower in Paris has always been a popular tourist destination because of its spectacular views of the city’s well known landmarks. Now however, after the redesigning and total refurbishment of the 56th floor by well known French designer, Noe Duchaufour Lawrance, the Ciel de Paris restaurant is in direct competition with the views from its expansive bay window. L’OPERA L’Opera was the dream of Charles Garnier: allowing spectators to eat within his Palais of the 9th district. Thanks to the talent of Odile Decq who succeeded in the endeavour of creating a design restaurant within the OpÊra itself, without touching the walls or altering the 19th century masterpiece. Sip a chic cocktail at the lounge bar before trying out the cuisine of the talented French chef, YannTanneau, who creatively updates regional produce over the seasons.

Noted architect and designer Antonio Citterio was given free rein to create the hotel’s sleek architecture and refined interiors, featuring a selection of furnishings and textiles made exclusively for Bulgari, making it one of the most desirable and admired in the world. Most notable are the splendid pair of solid silver chandeliers that illuminate the hotel’s ballroom and the specially woven silk curtains featuring a pattern inspired by a brooch made by the firm’s founder Sotirio Bulgari during the 19th century. Offering unparalleled accommodation of between 160 up to 220 square meters, the seven Bulgari Suites are of peerless magnificence and immediately upon the opening of the hotel they set new standards for luxurious accommodation in London and have quickly become some of the world’s most consistently popular signature hotel suites. Each can provide two bedrooms with king size beds, a master bathroom with combined steam and shower room, a contemporary kitchen with the latest appliances, unique Bulgari silver and museum quality contemporary furnishings in the generous living area with a spacious dining room that accommodates 10 guests. The Bulgari Suites are some of the largest in London providing a uniquely residential feel. Although they share the same interior design each has a unique layout, some with open gas fireplaces while two are enhanced by expansive terraces located on the 6th floor of the hotel.

Whether they sprinkle their magic dust over buildings, homeware, watches, jewellery, clothes or a combination of the them, they are the design powerbrokers, the people who do more than anyone else to influence how our lives look and what we aspire to. CovetED has been presented with a chance to share with its readers an in depth perspective on one of the most influential designers in the United States. During we our stay in Miami for our CovetED Celebrate design with friends tour, we were lucky to meet François Frossard, were our meeting resulted is a specific point of view about interior design and discover a more about the praised interior designer’s life and personality.Known for his cutting edge approach to interior design, François Frossard has become one of the most praised professionals in the business. His signature “grand styleâ€? infused with “high bold dramaâ€? can be found in celebrated venues all around the world. What is more, François Frossard’s team customizes each project and leads the current new romantic design movement, infusing decadent glamour with whimsy and mystique, pairing contradiction with tradition.François Frossard got started as a cabinet maker and went to professional school to develop craftsman skills, where he got degrees as a “Cabinet maker“, “Kitchen cabinet makerâ€? and “Carpenterâ€?.

After that he went on to study architecture in Geneva for three years, moving shotly after to the famous Ecole Boulle Paris, known for its well-established design and arts degrees. Admired for his impeccable design skills, François Frossard has gained an outstanding reputation among his coveted clientele, including current and former heads of state, A-List celebrities and numerous socialites. We were lucky to get a unique insight on how the French designer started his career and established himself in the US. Early on in his professional experience he was highly involved in the furniture industry, and worked for a well-known designer in Chicago. During that period he discovered hospitality and restoration projects, and residential design, where he realized that he could apply much of the experience he had acquired throughout his youth to each of them. After 14 years, François Frossard was asked to come down to Miami to help with some projects. This trip changed his life, and Miami looked like a new start for the designer. In 2002, Francois set a new standard in Night Life Design after unveiling Prive for The Opium Group, a nightclub firm known for their celebrity clientele. This made his popularity spread around the world together, establishing his signature design with it. For François Frossard, Celebrating design with friends means the interpretation of himself, his soul. It is more about being able to interplay the project from A to Z.

François Frossard

According to his point of view, “luxury is not actually defined by moneyâ€?, but “what everyone feels is luxuryâ€?. Everybody has a standard of what luxury should be about. “You cannot redefine luxury looking at some amazing palaces and placesâ€? he explains. In terms of differentiating between the European and American luxury style, François Frossard states that some parts of the US are still lacking a little bit of fashion, but in Miami everyone may acknowledge its better view. “In the US we have a broader scale of supply and product than we have in Europeâ€? he states. However, “the European style is simple and has a natural flavorâ€? and in Europe “we have much easier access to the Italian, Portuguese, Spanish market in terms of high-end design and fashionâ€?. Among the most exciting projects there are some situated in Texas and Miami. Currently, his design team is occupied on many projects, trying to develop their markets in Europe and Mexico, were he has already left his mark on the QUEEN PARIS nightclub at the Champs ElysĂŠes in Paris, the Moon Palace Cancun in Mexico, and the mighty hotelresort LeBlanc in Cabos. François is travelling to Jamaica in a short few weeks, for the opening of the Moon Palace Grande. Having undergone a multi-million dollar renovation before opening at Ocho Rios Bay, the resort will include modernized guestrooms, overhauled meeting spaces, upgrades and redesigns of the common areas, as well as a freshly designed restaurant. Based on a Jamaican-Caribbean film, the resort interiors will blend whimsical, European influences with chic Caribbean undertones. Offering the most meeting space in any hotel in Jamaica, the Moon Palace Grande will feature five dining destinations, including gourmet Asian, traditional Italian, and modern Caribbean restaurants. Stepping away from the work conversation, CovetED was excited to find out more about how the designer spends his free time. Despite travelling a lot on work purposes, François visits Paris, and its luxurious southern cities of St. Tropez, Cannes and Monaco, on a regular basis. The designer is fond of Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones as well as Bono and U2, for their longevity, and ability to remain at the top of their game after decades in the music industry. On the visual art front, he adores fellow French designer Phillipe Starck, considering him one of his main influences. In terms of design brands, François Frossard is completely in love with Boca do Lobo, considering them a favorite. It’s each the fact that each of Boca do Lobo’s pieces tells a special story, and stirs emotion from the first moment you lay eye on them. Furthermore, François takes his inspirations from speaking to people, travelling and discovering villages in his beloved South of France. He believes that “inspiration has to come naturally and it cannot be falseâ€?, and considers it as something that really comes and goes. (Moreover, it is not the case when you can just push a button and turn it on or off. ?) The Forge restaurant, in Miami, which he designed four year ago, is one of his favourite dining spots. In terms of hospitality, Frossard find the La Co(o)rniche Hotel in Pyla-sur-mer, designed by Phillipe Starck, to be his favourite, thanks to its beautiful setting and prime location on the CĂ´te d’Argent. Overall, art plays a significant part in the life of François Frossard. In his opinion, art is the best starting point in interior design. Art is a huge part of design, as it may define something that will also get a story. And that is well reflected in his studio where a work of art in the form of sculptures, paintings or furniture pieces make their presence known in each room and fill the studio with a charming aura.

AMSTERDAM’SHIDDENGEM As you explore the streets of Amsterdam, enjoying one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, its many secrets begin reveal themselves. Moving away from the main streets and passing along the canals, a hidden architectural treasure awaits your discovery. It becomes apparent due to the beautiful façade that you are about to enter a historic building. The entrance is discreet - before actually going inside, you pass through a small patio that sets apart the movement of the city and the relaxed environment of the space. COVETED had the pleasure of visiting The Dylan hotel which is located on the Keizersgracht, one of Amsterdam’s most famous canals, in the trendy neighborhood De Negen Straatjes that is filled with little shops, boutiques, bars, and art galleries. The Dylan is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World portfolio, so one can only expect the best! The hotel lives in a building full of history, dating back

to 1618 when a wooden theater was built near the then recently opened fifth canal, the Keizersgraght. This theater was called the “Dutsch Academie”. The church authorities disapproved of the immoral character of the theater, so it was decided that most of its profits would be donated to the city´s orphanages. By 1632, architect Jacob Van Campen was commissioned to build a stone theater to replace the wooden structure. Many famous plays were performed on that stage, from Shakespeare to Molière, Voltaire, and Corneille. In 1737, the 100th anniversary of the theater, it was none other than Antonio Vivaldi who conducted the orchestra to an audience of notorious guests. But in 1772, during a performance the building caught on fire and was completely destroyed, except for the Van Campen doorway, which remains the main entrance to The Dylan today.

The Vinkeles lounge is the perfect set up for the fantastic meal you are about to enjoy at the actual Vinkeles restaurant.

Entering The Dylan is a welcoming and very personal experience. There is no colossal lobby with a grand front desk - instead you enter a place designed to make you feel at home. The lounge, located right in front of the check-in, with its wooden floors, curving furniture, and a handsome marble fireplace, is the perfect place to enjoy a warm cappuccino or a refreshing drink before heading out to town, or to dinner at the fantastic Restaurant Vinkeles. This Michelin Star awarded restaurant sits in a sunken dining room that preserves all of the original elements from the time it served as the bakery for the Catholic Poor People’s Office. From the brick walls, to the 18th century ovens, and views to the inner garden, an amazing ambience is set that perfectly blends authentic old Amsterdam with a refined style of today. Here your senses are taken through a journey, as you taste the wonderful gastronomic art created by Chef Dennis Kuipers. Using only the freshest ingredients, his dedication to every detail from purity of flavor to presentation can be seen in each of his dishes. And if you are curious to know what goes on in a Michelin Star awarded kitchen, there is a Chef’s table available to make the experience even more unique! The Dylan has forty rooms in five different styles: Serendipity, Luxura, Klassbol, Loft, and Kimono. It is clear that an immense amount of attention was put in to every element of the design process. The rooms perfectly combine modern lines with the historic legacy of the building. Always keen to surprise its guests, the hotel commissioned famous Dutch interior designer Remy Meijers who, with his clean design and attention to detail, created an authentic home away from home.

The entrance lounge is a warm and cosy place to enjoy a hot beverage.

In the Brasserie OCCO you can enjoy a fine dinner or a glass of wine in a sophisticated space.

Shades of brown and grey, copper-colored Loxura butterflies, bronze mirrors, elegant leather headboards with luxurious pearl shell details, raspberry red and elephant grey, bright white walls combined with beige accents, minimalistic furniture, black and midnight blue color schemes, and painted pottery are just some examples of elements used by Meijers to create a sense of harmony and peace. Even the cabinet that serves as the mini-bar was designed by Meijers himself exclusively for the hotel.

If you are not a guest at The Dylan, you can still enjoy many of its fantastic offerings, such as the Brasserie OCCO that, just like the Vinkeles, is derived from the hotels unique history. Lucas Pompejus Occo was one of the regents when the Roman Catholic Church housed an old and poor people’s office. Combining the history of the hotel with a cosmopolitan feel, OCCO features a more relaxed mood than Vinkeles where you can enjoy straightforward, unpretentious food like a Ceaser salad, delicious pasta, or a juicy hamburger. “HIGH WINE” is the concept of this space, which features high quality, recognizable dishes, inspiring interiors, great wines, and exquisite personal service. There is also a very beautiful and peaceful interior garden, perfect for a glamorous sunset cocktail party or romantic wedding. Inside, where plays were performed, there is the ballroom called the Arina Room in honor of the first actress in The Netherlands. She made her debut in this very room in 1655. The Ariana Room has a glass ceiling that can be shuttered and an intriguing wall with an undulating wave effect, topped off by two gorgeous suspension lamps made of ceramics. So, whenever you’re in Amsterdam and want a place to stay that feels like home, but with all the commodities of a top level hotel, make sure you stay at The Dylan, you will not be disappointed!

You will not be sorry if you try the wonderful cocktails at Bar Barbou.

From duplex rooms to Signature Suites, designed to provide you with maximum confort, you will surely find a room to fall in love with.

WINDSOR ARMS +27(/

Windsor Arms Hotel

Located between Queens Park Avenue and the luxurious Bloor Street, Windsor Arms Hotel is an unexpected little treasure in the fastest growing city in North America. In fact, Toronto is the 4th most populated city on the continent but takes the 2nd spot when it comes to wealth. Elegantly designed skyscrapers are popping like mushrooms as the city shapes itself as a serious business center attracting more and more enterprises from the United States to Asia. Did I mention that Canada has a population of only 40 million? “To feel like home, but better” In this whirlwind of events, Windsor Arms Hotel (WAH) sits comfortably in its prime location not looking at what others are doing, but instead focusing on creating an exceptional experience for its guests, a place where they can “feel at home - but better”. CovetED had the privilege to interview Mr. George Friedmann, the owner of WAH.

Windsor Arms Hotel

CE - How would you describe the hotel? It has a signature touch? GF - It’s important to understand that Canada is a very, very young country, when this beautiful building was originally built in 1927 it was the very first hotel in Toronto. We want to respect its heritage and roots, so the style is typically British with a few cues of colonial, but with the luxury that you expect from a hotel built today. “Boutique hotels sometimes are just small hotels” We are truly a boutique hotel, not because we don’t have enough space - we have decreased our room capacity from 80 to just 30 suites because we wanted to create the best experience for our guests by providing in each suite a living room, bathroom with shower and a tub, independent air conditioner, and humidistat - “some celebrities like this” - and a staff that can fulfill virtually any request 24 hours a day. Plus, I value providing access to a gym, a pool, a spa (fully equipped with a massage room, salt cave and ice bath), a restaurant, meeting room, cinema room, etc. CE - What makes Windsor Arms Hotel special when compared with other hotels in Toronto or in the world? GF - I believe what distinguishes us is our history, our know-how, and homeyness. Keep in mind that WAH is the place of choice for celebrities and actors to stay in Toronto (Toronto is the 3rd city in the world with the most theaters) because they want to be treated with discretion and we have built that trust with them. Our Butler service is quite unique; it’s about having the right attitude and right approach. Fun is important in life. “Once we had a client that asked us to fill the tub with jello, we just asked one question: Which flavor?” CE - What services do the guests love the most at Windsor Arms? GF - I would say the Tea room, weekend afternoons are very popular here. It’s required to book a table and you can choose from more than 40 varieties of teas from all over the world. I also would like to add that our restaurant is quite good, and it’s important to mention that 75% of the people that come to this restaurant are not guests.

Windsor Arms Hotel

CE - Can you talk about your favorite moments here at Windsor Arms? GF – That’s a tough question. We have had several important personal moments, for instance: Elton John and David Furnish’s engagement party was perhaps the most significant one - he played a live concert with some of his closest friends and mentioned in his speech: “How much better can my life be to be engaged in Windsor Arms and get married in Windsor Castle” Andrea Bocelli stayed and performed here, great concert. Il Divo too. Elizabeth Taylor was proposed to by Richard Burton here back in 1967 as well. Charity events are becoming very important, we held one in 1997 with President Clinton and 200 local Toronto elite that raised $1.3 Million dollars. And we can’t forget about the Toronto film festival opening party that is held here each year. This building is highly recognized by Hollywood; fortunately we don’t need to advertise.

Hameed Hani, living room

Hameed Hani, living room

CovetED: How and why did you get into the interior design Industry? Hameed Hani- I am actually from an Architectural background in terms of education and early years of training. Working in Architecture helped me develop a strong valuable skill of understanding a space as well as construction details. Howeve, I was always more inclined and focused on interiors as it involves a great attention to details in all aspects of design that is different to Architecture. I started my interior design journey by working for a London based Jewelry designer who was often commissioned to create small scale High-End Interior Design projects. Following that, I worked for a number of London’s leading Interior Design consultancies before finally opening my own consultancy, 5mm. CE-How would you describe your style? Do you have a signature touch? HH- I would describe my style as Trendy and Modern with an Art-Deco twist. My signature touch usually involves creating a bespoke joinery piece that would work as an art or statement piece yet still be functional. An example of this was a TV unit that I designed for my Marble Arch project. It was finished with hand textured Bronze lacquer and had a dramatic impact on the space yet it hosted all the AV equipment for the project. CE-Is there anything exciting that you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about? Any new projects? HH- I am currently working on a residential project in Marylebone, Central London. The style of the project is ‘Industrial Chic’. Materials and palette for the project include weathered effect polished plaster, mineral tiles, soft warm taupe tones mixed with pale greens and greys. CE-Where do you draw your inspiration from? HH-Artwork from the Art-Deco period, Architecture, Music, and Icon fashion designers such as Ellie Saab - the amount of detail that goes into each gown is incredible and fascinating. CE-Which design brands do you love the most? HH- Brabbu, Delightful, Holly Hunt, Christian Liaigre.

Hameed Hani, seymour street

CE-Which colours, textures and techniques do you prefer in interiors and furniture design? HH-Each project differs in terms of colours as that would reflect the client we work with. I often tend to use Bronze finishes in my projects over Chrome. I love mixing patterns and textures in a room. My favourite is mixing wool and patterned velvets together. All of the above related back to my design aesthetic which is to create interiors that evoke feelings and emotions. I believe a space has a direct impact on mind and body.

CELEBRATING

DESIGN

WITH FRIENDS A student, a design practitioner, or just a curious person interested in understanding how the fine art of design is relevant to life, no matter what they do for a living, what really matters is how they contribute to the world of design and change everything around them with their projects and all of the creative processes behind them. “Celebrating Design with Friends” is Coveted Magazine’s way of showing how design connects and influences thousands of people around the world. In this section, interviews with leading designers – creators of selected and significant works – will show how they are woven together in narratives that represent how this intriguing and creative universe works. The question was the same for every interviewee: “How do you celebrate design in your work, in your life?” However, the answers were very different and always an exciting surprise! Gisella Borioli , Studio group

“In our company this is attention to detail and the story that is behind the product. For many people there is also the story about the purchase. So from our perspective, we can tell the part of the story of the design inspiration which lies in where the product comes from, its details. We are actually a vertically integrated manufacturer. Thus, we make our products and don’t buy them from the commodity manufacturer. We pay attention to every detail from the beginning of the design process until the product is hanging in the customer’s home. That part of the story, I think, is what makes us special.”

Carola Bestetti

“It’s very difficult to say how we celebrate design, because design is part of our DNA. For us, it’s like everyday life, if you want.”

CAROLA BESTETTI (LIVING DIVAN)

“25º anniversary of Baxter. End of July restore a cinema. It’s like a concept store, with a private cinema, a bar, and events – an artist that paints, another that makes lamps, a showroom, and so on. There are famous designers, but also so many designers that approach the market. We want to help them to grow in the market. They come to me with the process, and they can learn with the past. That’s how we like to celebrate design.”

VINCENZO DE COTIIS (BAXTER)

“My work is my passion. First of all, my job is the job of my life. So I don’t work, I live it. I like all the object designs around me, all the objects made by friends, architects or designers. So if you come to my home, you will see a lot of different pieces. So I live surrounded by design and I like it.”

GISELLA BORIOLI (SUPERSTUDIO GROUP)

“Porro was started by my great grandfather 90 years ago. This year we are celebrating our 90th birthday. It started as a very small art design workshop. After that, it grew up during the economic boom in the 50s and then my grandfather and father turned it to a real industry. Thanks to our artistic director Pierro Lissoni, the face of the brand was changed, bringing it to the modern era, and this is how we will celebrate design this year”

MARIA PORRO (PORRO)

Vincenzo de Cotiis (Baxter)

Daniel J. Cohen

“I have a double answer. The first company answer, is that we really believe in design and that’s why we’re promoting an international competition of design, both for students and for professionals, through the university of Milan, and we give the opportunity to people from all around the world to present their projects. The winners will have a money prize and also the opportunity to have the products produced by us. So this is a way of giving an opportunity to young people that never had the opportunity to meet the company, to promote their products. And the other thing is that we celebrate beauty in everything we do. I mean, we’re Italian and I think we have a peculiar taste that goes from the pair of shoes we wear to everyday objects. And this is very important to us.”

Maison Laudurée, Paris

The Maison Ladurée is synonyme to the quintessential French macaron. Based on an Italian recipe, brought to France in the XVI century by Queen Catherine de’ Medici, the macaron’s meringue base was transformed by Pierre Desfontaines, grandson to Louis-Ernest Ladurée. It all began in 1862, when Louis-Ernest Ladurée, a miller from the Southwest of France, opened a bakery on Rue Royale, in Paris’ 8th Arrondissement. An avid writer and devoted liberal idealist, Laudurée’s works aimed as a social critique on French institutions, their intolerance as well as religious dogmas. In bakery was burnt-down during the Paris Commune movement in the first half of 1871. Baron Haussman, then in charge for the city’s reconstruction and “facelift”, helped turn the bakery into a pastry shop. The newly rebuilt Maison Ladurée was decorated by Jules Cheret, an acclaimed painter and poster artist whose work became notorious in the late XIX century. The turn of the century was an exciting time for Paris, with tremendous change in terms of economic and social development. Entering the belle époque, after years of recession and political instability, Parisians were hungry for new experiences and cultural innovations. The pastry shop became well known thanks to Jeanne Souchard, Louis-Ernest’s wife, who

combined the traditional Parisian café style, with the delicacies of French haute-patisserie. Moreover, Mme. Souchard played a tremendously important role in the evolution of social transformation, as Maison Laudurée was the first Parisian tearoom to welcome women at any time. The Maison reached critical acclaim with the invention of the doubledecker macaron in the early XX century. Filled with delicious creamy ganache, or fine jam, the macaron has become a symbol of French haute-patisserie, thanks to it’s unique texture and exquisite taste. A symbol of prestige, and national heritage, the world famous Ladurée macaron is responsible for the livelihood of French pastry and gastronomy all around the world. Sticking to it’s traditional style and aesthetic, the original Ladurée bakery has now spread to a further 7 locations around Paris, and to over 25 countries around the world. In a bid to live up to their ancestry, and institutional culture, each Maison pays incredible attention to detail, from its decoration and selection of crockery, to its service and selection of goods. The macaron represents a serene Parisian nostalgia, which lives on through the Maison, who effortlessly touch on each of the key genuine French facets that have made it a global phenomenon.

Bouley’s restaurant

There are so many excellent restaurants in New York City. However, the one CovetED recently visited is so unique, that it makes it hard to compare with others. From the moment you cross the threshold of this restaurant you already know the experience will be special. From the moment you walk in, the scent of season fruit transports you away bustling NYC routine, straight to the French countryside. With a client base of highly respected guests, this restaurant offers one of the city’s most exclusive dining experience. If this says anything to you, you’ll know that CovetED was at Bouley’s. Walking down Duane Street in the trendy TriBeCa neighborhood you will find an industrial façade with high arches, exposed brick, and oversized windows decked in exceptional silks. As you pass the building’s threshold, your senses are immediately awakened by the smell of fresh apples. And so the Bouley experience begins. Another door takes you to the reception where the countryside experience continues: handpainted floral wallpaper, vaulted ceilings, and custom furnishings make for an operatic setting reminiscent of a château.

Chef David Bouley

You are immediately presented with a flute of champagne before you finally enter the dining room area. Inside, the ancient doors and stone floors originate from French chateaux, where noble Frenchmen and women have walked through. Being in touch with this kind of history is beyond special. Fresh flowers – one of chef Bouley’s passions grace the room’s interior, and are all arranged with warmth and care. Paintings of French countryside complete the ambience, and a fireplace located in the center of the room welcomes us to a homely feel. As we sat, we were immediately presented with the bread cart, known as “Le Chariot de Pain”, which was filled with a dozen of artisan bread recipes selected by Jacques Mahou, making the selection process nearly impossible. With a Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) award under his belt, world renown baker Jacques Mahou is a considered a craftsman, and happens to be a long time friend of Chefe Bouley. Selecting degustation menu, we immediately perceived the Chef’s bold approach of mixing traditional French cuisine with modern Asian influences. Rarely have we experienced such a burst of flavors in such a healthy presentation. This menu was the proof that healthy food can be extremely savvy and a pleasurable experience.

Bouley’s restaurant

We also had the chance to take a look backstage and immerse ourselves in Bouley’s world, were we were granted privileged access to his Test Kitchen. It became apparent that it was an arena of vital importance for the Bouley team, were developing and testing new and advanced approaches to product selection, preparation, and presentation is carried out on a daily basis. As an educational center, the Bouley Test Kitchen provides guests the chance to learn from visiting chefs through classes and demonstrations. At the same time, a 200-squarefoot wall of slate allows David Bouley and his guest chefs to map handwritten recipes and chalk drawings of all possible menu items being tested in a given session. With the help of this state-of-theart culinary laboratory, one recipe can inspire many other sub-recipes. It’s thanks to the test kitchen and David Bouley’s exciting culinary talents, that the restaurant stays one step ahead, and accommodates for all dietery wishes and needs.David Bouley was born and raised near Storrs, Connecticut. He spent a great part of his childhood on his grandparent’s farm, where he become connected to the family’s French heritage, and to the lifestyle that provided him with appreciation for open land and fresh products.

He opened Bouley’s in 1987 quickly taking TriBeCa, and the rest of New York by storm, setting a new standard for fine dining in America. His latest adventure has led him to open a versatile new venue – Bouley Botanical. Aimed at being a living events space, designed to excite all senses, Bouley’s Botanical is dedicated to the celebration of private, social and business events, as well as weddings. Located in 281 Church Street not far from his original kitchen, Botanical envelopes guests in an environment of pure ingredients, featuring 400+ edible species of plants growing in vertical window gardens, supported by the largest bio-dynamic green house in New England. Bouley Botanical comfortably accommodates parties from 8 to 75 people for seated private dining events and up to 100 people for receptions. It is not a secret to state that David Bouley has played an important role in making TriBeCa the hot spot neighborhood it is today. The wellknown chef recollects TriBeCa as neighbourhood wihout traffic lights and cars, where only empty buildings filled the quiet air. Nowadays TriBeCa is an upscale residential district featuring numerous galleries, stores and fine restaurants.

NUTRITION REVOLUTION After 35 years being in the kitchen, David Bouley wants to teach people to look at cooking in another way and share what he has learned. Currently his mission is taking advantage of working with people who know a lot about Japanese cuisine and plants. An avid student of Japanese cuisine and culture, the Chef explains that it has influenced him and helped focus on his mission of teching people how to embrace healthy food. Overall, David Bouley tries to prove that it is not just food on the plate, but more and the most significant part in eating is products used for cooking. Currently, Chef Bouley is working with his team to develop special Apps dedicated to teach people how to eat and cook healthy. The aim of these apps is to provide people with health benefits, explaining the recipe, containing the material from thousands of cooking books. LE COMPTOIR GOURMET Known for its creamy cheeses, crisp baguettes, decadent pastries and overall finesse and flavor, French cuisine is sometimes elegant, sometimes rustic, but always exquisite. The French take great pride in their cooking and it plays a significant role in their culture. It is said that in France the meal you present reflects upon you and your family. The bar for high culinary standards has certainly been set by the French. One of the most remarkable things about French cuisine is the underlying variety. To be precise, early French cuisine can be traced back to the Italians. Wondering why this is? As the 15th century dawned, the highest of Renaissance culture flourished in Florence. Prosperity that spread beyond the very small royal population led to a new pastime - dining as entertainment, where common foods were decorated and seasoned to emphasize new flavors from improved storage techniques and discoveries in food preparation. Mushrooms, truffles, garlic, and otherwise infrequently used vegetables appeared in the world of cooking. However, the French were largely ignorant of these things, until Catherine de Medici, daughter of Duke of Urbino, arrived in France in the 1540s to become the bride of the future King Henri II. She brought with her cooking skills from the ways of Florence. History aside, during its exciting tour around Europe, CovetED had the pleasure to visit the restaurant Le Comptoir Gourmet in Paris, France where we fell in love with French food, as you may have already noticed. The Michelin-starred restaurant goes back to the origins of French cuisine and mixes the great art of French cooking with authentic Italian ingredients in an elegant and cozy space. The model of the restaurant consists of a menu which changes weekly showcasing seasonal ingredients sourced from sustainable farms, and highlighting novel and traditional techniques. Just what we were looking for that sunny afternoon while taking a stroll after a day well spent visiting Paris. We were very warmly received by Xavier Sautier, one of the owners of the restaurant. He loves to chat with foodies like ourselves so we got to know more about Le Comptoir Gourmet first hand. After returning from London with the intention of starting a new life, he and his partners decided to buy the space which is now home to this fabulous restaurant. Together with friends he traveledW throughout France and Italy to select products from small producers in the countryside. While visiting these producers they also encouraged them to sell their products in Paris where urban dwellers show a keen interest in countryside production as they have few opportunities to go there. If you visit Le Comptoir Gourmet, you’ll find that everybody knows each other. The team and the regular customers are almost like family. You will meet people of different ages and cultures in an exceptionally friendly and cozy atmosphere.

DÉCOR

All the materials are raw - wood, stone, but slightly modernized and more complex. “In this way, we keep the originality” explains Xavier Sautier, “we wanted to focus on the authenticity.” The high-top tables promote communication. “When someone comes alone we say you’re not alone, you’re with us, because a high table allows that. In the back we have a club style, if people want to be more quiet”. Modern details like graphic wall paper contrast with natural materials like stone and wood. So when you analyze this decoration, it is neither French, nor Italian, but rooted in the values of the restaurant.

FOOD

French dishes only seen on culinary-school exams (rabbit ballotine, pike quenelles) so delicately and artfully created that they suddenly seem totally fresh and new. Xavier Sautier is unmistakably concerned with the food that goes out on his plates, but he pays even closer attention to the people eating it. And that’s when it hits us: Le Comptoir Gourmet isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an Embassy of Taste. Le Camptoir Restaurant

THE FAST-CASUAL CONCEPT KNOWN FOR ITS CHEF-DRIVEN MENU

The restaurant is known for its traditional crepe recipe, a specialty from India and Romania that is made by cooking it with cheese only and then reopening it to add fillings. This technique allows the ingredients inside to keep their freshness and taste, without cooking everything as a Panini is usually prepared. This is a place where endless flavors will astound you throughout the year. Among the partners of the restaurant there is the local patisserie, the bakery. The truffles are grown and brought from the region of Alba (Italy)…. And Xavier knows every single one of the partners and producers who work with Le Comptoir Gourmet in person. We highly recommend tasting the Pastourelle Piadina with cooked ham, herbs, and black truffle oil – it will most certainly make even the most demanding visitor fall in love with Le Comptoir Gourmet. To see what truly makes a meal here so special, we recommend tasting La Franc-Bourgeois. This is a special crepe with Norwegian smoked salmon, mozzarella, decorated with dill, lemon and rocket. Whether you’re looking for Tiramisu or not, you should certainly pop in to Le Comptoir Gourmet for their dessert. The chef of the restaurant will do his best to serve the most delicious chocolate fondant cake or Vin Santo with cantuccini. All in all, Le Comptoir Gourmet in Paris gives visitors a chance to get a unique cultural experience that mixes flavorful, nutritious food with beauty and leisure. People go out to eat for all kinds of reasons. Some go for the dishes, some for the service, and some just because a food magazine told them to. But at the end of the day, everyone goes back to the place they enjoyed the most. The place that is actually unique. ;DYLHU 6DXWLHU V XQGHUVWDQGLQJ RI WKLV LV QRWKLQJ short of a culinary revolution.

However, we advise you to draw your attention to a different extraordinary culinary experience. When taking a stroll in super hip Soho, do not forget to stop at 275 Mulberry Street and treat yourself and your friends to a brunch, lunch, or dinner in one of the most original restaurants in the Big Apple. Please be prepared to have your senses teased by the The Chefs Club, a unique space open to experiments that will delight your day and stay in the city that never sleeps. It was in November 2014 that the flagship restaurant CHEFS CLUB BY FOOD & WINE made its New York debut in the Historic Puck Building. The 120-seat restaurant, designed by celebrated architect David Rockwell and his firm Rockwell Group, is located on the ground floor of the Puck Building (275 Mulberry Street) in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan. Rockwell Group has selected simple and organic materials in neutral hues, such as walnut, raw concrete, leather, and blackened steel to complement the Puck Building’s historical elements, including cast-iron columns and exposed brick ceilings maintaining the building’s true nature, history

and spirit. The aim of the design firm was to dissolve the boundaries between the chef and their guests whilst incorporating materials and design features that highlight the amazing, turn-of-the-century space. If that were not enough, this amazing restaurant features installations curated by the Rockwell Group in collaboration with design and art authority such as Murray Moss, including permanent displays, as well as temporary ones, inspired by the creativity of the visiting chefs (we will soon tell you more about this special feature). Murray Moss wanted to create, together with the Rockwell Group, visual moments which are elemental to cooking and dining - not as decor, but mise en scene which evoke a collective memory of the Art, past and present, of culinary expression. The restaurant includes a main dining room and a very exclusive intimate private dining room named the Studio, where guests can meet the visiting chefs on select dates or participate in cooking classes and other programmed activities. With its line-up of visiting chefs, CHEFS CLUB BY FOOD & WINE allows diners to try dishes by the most talented up-and-coming cooks in America as well as by celebrity chefs from around the world.

The true essence of Chefs Club, as told by the words of its President Stephane De Baets, consists of bringing together some of the best chefs in the U.S. and from around the world, curating a selection of dishes that aim to represent their culinary style, and present them to their clients through a very researched menu, which is supervised by world acclaimed Resident Chef and Culinary Director Didier Elena. This allows them to invite the diners to experience through their work their typical products, tastes and cultures, and most of all allows these extraordinary chefs to accomplish their mission: to bring joy through food. Having opened its first location at the St. Regis Aspen Resort in 2012, the restaurant showcases dishes by winners of FOOD& WINE’s prestigious Best New Chef award as well as by Culinary Director Didier Elena. FOOD & WINE Editor-inChief Dana Cowin, Restaurant/Project Curator and Talent Scout, has selected four extraordinary chefs for the New York City launch: Lachlan MackinnonPatterson of Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, Colorado (Best New Chef 2005), Gabriel Rucker of Le Pigeon in Portland, Oregon (Best New Chef 2007), Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch Public House in Atlanta, Georgia (Best New Chef 2009), and Erik Anderson of the forthcoming Brut in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Best New Chef 2012). All have their signature dishes featured on the fall menu and will be making a series of scheduled appearances.
