INEB Sangha trip to Jungto Society, South Korea The 7th INEB study trip (27 May - 4 June 2019)

INEB and Jungto Society developed the Buddhist Sangha Study program to visit South Korea since 2013. The main objectives are: 1. Learn from Ven. Pomnyun Sunim and Jungto Society on how to apply Dharma into modern society. 2. Comparison on traditional Buddhist temples and Jungto Society for their practice and social engagement. 3. Exchange of experiences of ordained Buddhists on how to apply Dharma into their respected societies.

Ven. Pomnyun Sunim is the founder and Guiding Zen Master of Jungto Society. He is not only a Buddhist monk and Zen master but also a social activist who leads various movements such as ecological awareness campaign; promotion of human rights and world peace; and eradication of famine, disease, and illiteracy. Jungto Society http://www.jungtosociety.org/ The Jungto Society is a Buddhist community founded with the aim of solving problems prevalent in a modern society such as greed, poverty, conflict, and environmental degradation, based on the teachings of Buddha. Founded in 1988, The Jungto Society has established the Jungto Retreat Center, Jungto Magazine, the Korean Buddhist Society Research Institute, and Join Together Society, Eco-Buddha, Peace Foundation.

Moongyung Jungto Retreat Center Jungto Retreat Center has provided several retreat programs for the beginners as well as the volunteer members of Jungto Society such as Awakening program, Mind sharing program, 100day retreat program which is intensive for beginners, and Meditation program. These all programs lead people to realize that human beings are all interconnected with each other including nature. People also learn that helping others is to help themselves and try to work as volunteers. Temple Bulkooksa http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/ATR/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?cid=26 4261 Bulguksa Temple is the representative relic of Gyeongju and was designated as a World Cultural Asset by UNESCO in 1995. The beauty of the temple itself and the artistic touch of the stone relics are known throughout the world. The temple was was rebuilt by Kim Dae-Seong (700-774), who started building the temple in 751 during the reign of King Gyeong-Deok (in power 742-765) and completed it in 774.


Temple Bongamsa http://www.johannemiller.com/2013/bongamsa-temple/ https://www.10mag.com/bongamsa-buddhas-birthday/# Founded in 897 AD, Bongamsa is one of the “Nine Mountain Schools of Zen”, the oldest centers of Zen meditation in Korea, which were designed to suit an ascetic life. At Bongamsa the monks meditate for more than eight hours a day and don’t want to be disturbed. Far from the maddening crowd, they lock themselves up in a remote valley in North Gyeongsang Province at the foot of the 998m-high Mt. Huiyangsan. This ancient temple features seven treasured artifacts including an old pine tree (natural monument) and stone lantern. Unmunsa is the largest Bhikkunis temple in Korea, maintaining a capacity of roughly 260 nuns who practice Buddhism for four year periods.


Logistics Information: Luggage: We rent the bus, so there are no bell boys who can support to deliver the participants’ baggage. Kindly prepare it under your capability to bring your own baggage all the way. Temperature: will be about 20 ~ 30 Celsius degree in those days. Accommodation: Jungto Society cannot provide the individual room and bathroom for each of you. All of Sangha participants will be living in dormitory style of accommodation during the trip. You will need to making your own bed at night and wrap it up in early morning as the way of Junto members practice during the years. Food: If you have any requirement in terms of foods you should have or should not have, kindly inform us in advance. Internet: Wifi is available wherever you go except on the way or in the mountain area. The password will be informed on your arrival in each place. If you need a strong signal of internet, you better buy a SimCard in the airport. Power Plug/Points ; In Thailand, the voltage is 220V, frequency is 50Hz, power sockets used are type A/B/C. Belo w you find pictures of these power sockets and corresponding plugs. You are reminded to bring your own power adapter for your computers and other electrical appliances. In Korea, the voltage is 220V.

Travel Visa For those who require a visa to South Korea, the coordinator will issue an official invitation letter from Jungto Society. The letter will be composed based on the information to be filled by the participant in the attached REGISTRATION FORM. Arrival Each participant will be pick up by Junto Society's staff at the airport when you are arrived. Please look up at the sign "JUNGTO SOCIETY" when you come out after immigration and custom. If you have any problem, please do contact: 010 2935 8216 (choi), 010 2059 2604 (Ji) Jungto Society also has concern about the environment movement since 1990s. So kindly bring your own tumbler and consider that less use of disposals like plastic sheet, plastic cup, paper cup, etc.
