Portes de Collserola 2012 Planning connections between Barcelona and the Collserola hills with Arriola & Fiol Arquitectes
30 years ago, in the eighties, Barcelona started integrating its littoral zone within the city. Now the city aims to connect Barcelona with the Collserola Mountain and Park through 16 green corridors. Those connections on one hand make more accessible the Collserola from the city and on the other hand aims to extend the natural environment inside the city. I took part of the third phase of the project during the first trimester of 2012 when the selected competitors had to introduce their proposal for the sites.

The shape of the city space is always in strict relationship with the ability of a society to product wishes, to define its goals and to imagine its ways of living. On one hand the strong accent on individualism request a wide use of soil and the occupation of “at risk areas, on the other hand the rising ecological issues poses the question of responsible use of resources. The contemporary project of the public space is therefore a chance to build resilient socio-ecological systems and to increase the public awareness of citizens about their interaction with natural and built environment. Mitigation or adaptation? The slow transformation of the area from an abandoned land ecosystem to a sea branch is in fact a fascinating
event that should not be occulted. The edge condition of the site (and the promiscuous border between land and water) should instead be encouraged and stressed transforming central park to an attraction point that could host leisure and cultural events Our proposal in few words We propose to dig a part of the site and to reuse the earth to build a safe path network and an artificial highland where to locate most permanent functions and uses. The soft path network of the lowland will serve as a permeable network of dams to control the flooding risk. The hard upper land instead will host water related functions and will have a more explicit urban characterization. bottom, layered organization of the programme

water infrastructures in the XXI century 2010, Master degree in Architecture for Sustainability, excerpt of the thesis, with Nicola Pavan http://issuu.com/sustainability_in_architecture/docs/pavan_tesi_04
A holistic approach to water management in urban areas The main aim of our research is for sure trying to imagine the possibilities that an integrated water managent could open for the perception and the design of urban spaces. Our third approach leaves the evaluation and proposition of guidelines to try to construct a scenario of urban redevelopment that starts from the enphasized postulate that urban water cycle is the key factor to model urban landscape.
We chosed to act on a part of the existing city taking advantage of an abandoned infrastructural area, to implement ecological functions in the urban environment, functions that have always been rejected by 19th - 20th century visions of the city. The need to adapt the city to the sustainability istances became urgent thanks to the recent flooding events. We therefore investigated how to implement water facilities in urban voids. This resulted in a “water infrastructure shaped to manage urban runoff, sewage depuration and to reduce flooding risk.

water infrastructure in the XXI century
Imagining architectural objects that are contamination between eco-technical devices, landscape design and architectural works we imagined urban spaces for leisure time and recreational uses that offer the possibility to interact with the whole urban water cycle improving public awareness on it’s existence and giving the possibility regain abandoned urban spaces with activities that go from fitness to growing food with cleansing biotope greenhouses, from urban mobility, to water related leisure activities.

school campus in Dosson 2009, V year _ Urban and architectural design
The project concerns the design of a school campus for children from 5 to 13 years old. The project tries to answer to the urban context issues that are mainly related with the incapacity to address urban development and the relationship between urban voids and built environment. Interior distribution of spaces allows a very thick building that interact on a large scale with contiguous natural elements defining relationships between the inside and the outside. middle, site plan bottom, project aims defined throught the Agenda

Building for Bowkunde international competition 2008, with Nicola Pavan, Stefano Peruzzo
Project goals: - Avoiding construction of unnecessary spaces. We are facing a lowering of physical and natural resources but we have gained a great opportunity with the conquer of non material space. - Avoiding building integration of quick obsolescence technologies. It’s the old pencil story by W.J.Mitchell: “imagine every time you need to use a pencil you go to the pencil lab”. Ubiquitous computing will provoke in a few years the obsolescence of informatic technologies and through them of those spaces created to hold them. Spaces will be shaped on human needs rather than to house conventional labs.
- Opportunity of diffuse working place. Incorporated connection technologies extend the physical from the Bouwkunde campus to the city and to the world. - Improving knowledge. Thanks to Lisbona 2000 chart and what followed we are now aware that Europe is managing to set as the most competitive society in the world based on knowledge. - Improving creativity. Most innovation and production networks are nowadays far from EU. We must manage to build a society in which human resources are considered as the final goal. The new Bouwkunde mustn't be a group of segregated spaces - Managing flexible space usage with an interactive agenda.

XI Biennale Architettura Venezia everyville competition winner 2008, with Nicola Pavan
Every activity that doesn’t need any natural support is transferred from the dominion of the physical space to an immaterial one. The center of the community is a virtual place, that is a public space of information interchange. A space that welcomes the conscience of the citizens. The conscience is not reproducible and makes that information unique in the virtual space; it allows to fall in love, and to fell disappointment, fear, joy…. The citizen is an individual subject inside a composed system that let him to be seen “connected” through ubiquitous technologies. In this virtual square he can regulate his duties, decide whether to meet
his friends, talk in visual connection to a person or more, hold lectures, pay the taxes, make purchases, work and know the Everyville that is around him. The identity and the safety, that once were testified by the monuments, are assured now by the stock of open-source’s information that are the patrimony of knowledge of the mankind.
